So 300 appointments wasted at a great cost to the NHS.

300 appointments which should have gone to women for a potentially life saving check.

300 appointments where a nurse (predominately woman I imagine) was put in an uncomfortable position much to the merriment of theTW.

How very progressive.

Blackopal · 25/09/2021 15:03

This one really hurt. The Lancet?
Shame on you

Posting fail, I was responding to #EdgeoftheSky

“ As for 'small marginalised group', it's astonishing how much power they actually have, wiping away language used to describe 51% of the population.”

Emmmm that’s what left wing political correctness is for. Protecting small marginalised groups from discrimination by the majority. That’s exactly why it was wanted. Did Labour voters miss that or something?

Mumoftwoinprimary · 25/09/2021 15:40

The irony involved in “Historically the anatomy and physiology of bodies with vaginas has been neglected” is so much that I can’t even manage to make a coherent sentence about it.

Ooooh - yes I can.

“Maybe that’s because you don’t see women as people!”

I'm not aware of this incident and haven't identified it after a brief search.

I doubt it would have been any of the flavours of the NHS in the 4 nations (I would be horrified to be wrong).

allmywhat · 25/09/2021 15:58

while ago some Transwomen took part in some protest campaign and about 300 booked smear tests, undressed and the nurse was faced with penis and scrotum

Were they protesting against women having healthcare? Seems a mite ambitious of them, I don't think that's going to fit in the Overton Window till 2023 or so.

I wonder how editorial decisions are made at the Lancet. Could this all be the fault of the body with a Vagina Museum or are there other bodies with stupid woke opinions on the editorial board?

You are spectacularly missing the point.

Giving rights to a minority should not dehumanise a majority.

Now do us all a favour and stop trying to derail.

And this whole 'bodies with a vagina' thing has just reminded me of the practice in US hospitals (not UK as far as I am aware) to perform vaginal examinations on unconscious female patients without their consent. We really are in that instance seen as bodies with vaginas www.forbes.com/sites/paulhsieh/2018/05/14/pelvic-exams-on-anesthetized-women-without-consent-a-troubling-and-outdated-practice/amp/#aoh=16325867838090&csi=1&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From%20%251%24s

(This article is from 2018 but there are more recent ones. This one seemed to give a good overview though)

When and where did this happen?
FannyCann · 25/09/2021 17:57

Is it possible to purchase individual copies of the Lancet? I'd love to buy a couple and leave them lying around at work. We have some fabulous female consultant surgeons at my hospital and not only am I sure they would never refer to their female patients as bodies with vaginas, I'm also sure they'd be fuming if their male colleagues did so.

Not that I know of - subscription options here:

MegaGengar · 25/09/2021 18:08

You can subscribe for free - not sure if you are then allowed to print articles?

Deliriumoftheendless · 25/09/2021 18:12

I look forward to future covers referring to bodies with bones when looking at fractures or bodies with brains when discussing advances in brain surgery.

Anyone can print an open access article (which the piece in questions is). Subscribers have access to the paywalled articles and can print a copy for personal use.

I thought FannyCann might specifically want a copy of the print issue for the shock value of the cover (I may be wrong).

@ToANewBeginning

Fuck me, this is horrific. I emailed the editor, seems to have reached his inbox - I included some cc’s and got out of office replies.

Have drafted a Facebook post and now trying to find the courage to post it. It’ll “out” me, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it were to lose me my job.

It’s not worth that. Don’t do it! You have already emailed.

I do know someone in the UK that something similar to that happened to as well. She was having a different procedure (i don't know what for; it's possible it was gyane); the doctors knew she had been having fertility troubles, and told her after the operation that they'd had a good check around all her reproductive parts, but didn't find anything wrong (which definitely was not what she had gone it to have checked out!)

If anyone gets a reply from the editor will you post the reply? I’d love to know their reasoning!

SnoopyLights · 25/09/2021 19:33

@yourhairiswinterfire

''Bodies with vaginas'' and MEN.

They don't want to be inclusive and say ''bodies with dicks'', because they don't want to piss off a certain category of men by reminding them that they're men.

They don't want to call us WOMEN in anything to do with OUR health (periods, pregnancy, female cancers etc) because they don't want to piss off a certain category of men by reminded them that they're men.

This isn't about 'inclusion' at all, this is MRA, dehumanising, misogynistic bullshit. Just start calling us cunts or wanking holes and be fucking done with it Angry

This says everything I want to say.

It says vagina because it's all about keeping the dicks happy.

daisydaisy11 · 25/09/2021 19:49

Unbelievable...what is the world coming to? You couldn't make this up!! It makes me worried for my daughters. Enough is enough, we have to speak up...all of us. I have emailed Richard Horton and the ombudsmen of the Lancet.

Artichokeleaves · 25/09/2021 20:07

@IHateCoronavirus

I'll confidently expect the same standard Tesco type cut and paste "we have dehumanised you for your better convenience" bull.

It would be lovely to be wrong however.

NiceGerbil · 25/09/2021 20:37

Nice to see two on the thread giving different views.

One saying something which involves pretending this is nothing to do with the new standards around language when talking about women and girls. Nothing to do with all the other things (menstruators, people with vaginas, birthing people etc, they are all fine and totally different).

And

  1. Ha take that, lefties with penis-holes! Reap what you sow! It's PC gorn mad you love all that!
Apart from on another thread I asked a poster to give some examples of PC gorn mad that involved removing ALL the words for a particular group. There wasn't an answer. The stuff I remember from PC gorn mad was around things like. Not calling women you work with 'darling' or indulging in sexualised 'banter'. Not using offensive terms for various minority groups. That sort of thing. I certainly don't recall it removing all the ways of referring to a whole group of people as a single group. Happy to be enlightened though!
Cailleach1 · 25/09/2021 20:54

Are they referring to the cat, or the cat's mother? My girl cat is spayed, but is a body with a vagina too.

Jeepers, you'd have to comment if anyone ever said that or gave you literature with that on it.

Waitwhat23 · 25/09/2021 21:41

@PeppermintMocha Shock I had probably naively assumed it only happened in America due to their health system - its rather depressing to hear that it happens here too and horrible for your friend.
