GC women thrown out of Edinburgh pub

Sorry if there's already a thread on this. I've been following it on twitter all day but didn't spot anything on Mumsnet.

The Edinburgh News has got a report about it.
www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/politics/inquiry-launched-into-row-over-transphobia-in-edinburgh-pub-3355594

The reporter quotes a lot of the TRA's tweets which they would probably love but I think the reporter's just given them enough rope to hang themselves.

I'm sure the average reader who hasn't followed the trans debate won't be impressed by someone who calls themselves an "AGP porn addict male" in their twitter bio.

Typo above, not counts. You know what I meant.

BlackForestCake · 23/08/2021 02:17

Imagine if the police were called every time someone left leaflets in a pub in Edinburgh during the Festival... Hmm

It's true that you can ask anyone to leave your pub without giving a reason. However, if you do give a reason, you had better be sure you are not discriminating on one of the protected characteristics.

You would be quite stupid to do something like throw someone out by saying "get out of my pub, t*rf", and then bragging about it on twitter.

NiceGerbil · 23/08/2021 02:43

Well yes quite.

OTOH.

I mean

When I was young we had Tottenham pubs and arsenal pubs. Going in one with the other team colours/ cheering for them/ leaving leaflets would be seen as inflammatory. They'd have got a kicking though.

When I was young there was also a NF pub. They certainly only wanted a certain clientele.

Then there were pubs that were Irish and if you were English you kept your head down.

We also have other groups that don't mix round here.

A gay or lesbian club would presumably be ok with turning away wrong sex. Well 10 years ago anyway.

I suppose my point is that pubs can be very tribal and going into one that's not for you can and will result in Argy bargy.

And to me it feels like that's what happened here tbh.

Gothichouse40 · 23/08/2021 02:51

Hmm, don't take as gospel everything you read in newspapers.

NiceGerbil · 23/08/2021 03:09

Or anywhere else these days.

cariadlet · 23/08/2021 05:26

@MissingLesbianSpaces If you search #AskGreeneKing on Twitter, you should be able to find what women have been asking them.

The bar manager listed their job as a bartender - also listed jobs as a DJ, in burlesque and as a child entertainer….

Oh no.

I haven’t been for years, but Doctors was always a pretty mainstream pub when I lived in Edinburgh - quite a general central meeting point place. We would often start or finish there on a night out.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/08/2021 06:42

bar staff complained of feeling “threatened” by the presence of a group of campaigners who oppose extending women’s rights to transgender people.

This is a good example of how not using clear language makes it impossible to say what this is about. It's not about "opposing extending women's rights to transgender people", it's about women's rights to exclude all biological males including trans ones from the female sex class.

cariadlet · 23/08/2021 06:49

TRAs are now using the hashtag #IStandWithMeb and throwing around wild accusations that the whole incident was a set up and that GC women have organised a pile on against the person who threw them out and that they're posting revenge porn.

It's so ridiculous that it's laughable but people are lapping it up.

OP posts:
Iggii · 23/08/2021 06:52

Doctors could not be in a more central, touristy, studenty part of Edinburgh if it tried.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/08/2021 06:53

They will say whatever bollocks they want to, and people will believe it because it's easier than examining their own views on whether it's reasonable to treat women like this.

MidsomerMurmurs · 23/08/2021 06:57

@NiceGerbil
TBH I don't think it's on putting leaflets for anything in pub bogs without asking

Hmm. Have you ever been to Edinburgh in August? You’re in for a shock if unsolicited leaflets/flyers/stickers in hospitality establishments worry you!

The manager sounds like decided to kick out when realised

A PP said this pub is in wokesville, why choose that one?

This pub is next to Bristo Square at the top of Middle Meadow Walk. Big wide open doors on the corner. Big wide open space inside. A couple of smaller spaces if you walk far enough in. I’ve been there many times (admittedly not for a few years now!) It’s a pretty standard place to meet to start a night out.

Waitwhat23 · 23/08/2021 06:57

Some excellent comments on the Edinburgh Evening News Facebook Post (as well as some ridiculous ones, including how the incident was bad but the real crime was misgendering the bar manager). They describe themselves as a AGP male in their own Twitter bio apparently so....

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/08/2021 07:24

it seems that the bio was firmly tongue in cheek and being self deprecating on the stuff that had already been said by people tweeting her account.

If you hilariously claim yourself to be an "AGP male" on your Twitter bio, the same one you are using to call women terfs and cunts, you can hardly complain when people unfamiliar with these issues don't realise you're clearly not an AGP male at all because the whole description isn't in any way a perfect fit for you or anything.

Itsinthetreesitscoming · 23/08/2021 07:40

Btw, Doctors is not in the centre of wokeville as some posters have suggested. It's in the centre of Edinburgh and is very mainstream.

PaleGreenGhost · 23/08/2021 07:46

When women call the police for, I dunno, sexual assault or something, they are doing carceral feminism and also weaponising their trauma, have I got that right?

nauticant · 23/08/2021 07:53

it seems that the bio was firmly tongue in cheek

If you go to the bar worker's twitter account, click on media, and scroll down, it will soon be clear that AGP is an accurate term to describe this individual. However, it's NSFW. Which to be fair is acknowledged in the bio itself.

andyoldlabour · 23/08/2021 08:21

What a complete waste of police time by narcissistic twonks.
Has Scotland got a far higher proportion of mysoginistic idiots than the rest of the UK?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/08/2021 08:29

What do 'cumbrained' 'hot shitposting girl thing' mean and what is the symbolism of the fingers shaped like a gun in the picture of whatever the Tweeter's name is?

I can't quite figure it all out.

Is this another example of lesbians and others in chairs drinking coffee?

Unsuremover · 23/08/2021 08:38

Evening news struggling for news again. But Doctors has always been a world of its own. If it was chocolate it would eat itself. It’s main goal seems to making everyone feel like an outsider. It’s called drs because it’s beside the medical school - surely it’s should be called students.

But there’s are 1000’s of pubs in Edinburgh, plenty which aren’t full of pretentious knobs.

I’m not sure what my point is.

It's a sign of having a lady brain, isn't it? head tilt

CharlieParley · 23/08/2021 08:42

Acvording to some more eyewitness accoints, this manager (or junior staff) waited till Marion was on her own and cornered her coming back from the loos to tell her they'd recognised her and she'd better leave or they'd call the police.

I can't help wondering what the rules around this are...

Seriously? Like there are known Twaw pubs now. Crikey. And these women deliberately booked a table there. Presumably they kept their heads down for 2 hrs until the Queen terf entered. Leaving porn head no option but to call the police. Now it makes perfect sense. Not.Confused
