GC women thrown out of Edinburgh pub

Sorry if there's already a thread on this. I've been following it on twitter all day but didn't spot anything on Mumsnet.

The Edinburgh News has got a report about it.

The reporter quotes a lot of the TRA's tweets which they would probably love but I think the reporter's just given them enough rope to hang themselves.

I'm sure the average reader who hasn't followed the trans debate won't be impressed by someone who calls themselves an "AGP porn addict male" in their twitter bio.

So what other pubs are run by this group? Just so I know where to avoid - not going to any establishment where staff referring to customers as 'cunts' or 'terfs' is considered to be acceptable.

Identical reports by the same journalist in both the Edinburgh News and the Scotsman. I wonder if she's managed to get the story in any other newspapers.
Scotsman and EEN (and SoS) are all part of the same group. I think staff wrote for all three now.

Greene King own loads of brands including Hugry Horse, Chef and Brewer, Farmhouse Inns and Wacky Wharehouse soft play. Plus lots of "independent" pubs.

Their social media and PR people must be really pissed off with the member of staff who started all this and has been gleefully tweeting about it.

They're probably desperately trying to work out which group of people they can least afford to offend. I don't see how they can possibly keep everybody happy

And then obviously decided to ignore their manager’s advice by re-emerging on SM to continue being a dick?

I do hope Greene King’s HR department are up to speed on the EA 2010 and protected beliefs.

Picked up by the Scottish Sun as well now, so lots of publicity that Greene King might find a bit unwelcome.

It isn't - women aren't protected by the hate crime bill (unless they're mistaken for a transwoman of course Angry) Cos it's just so tricky & they need to have a think about it or some such twaddle.

The Hate Crime Bill in Scotland does not protect women, despite Johann Lamont requesting an amendment to include sex as a category when it was being debated.

Instead we have a toothless 'Misogyny Working Group' who have been given over a year to deliberate. They are also TWAW so the whole thing is fucking pointless really.

I read the article and honestly they’d booked two tables and in course of 2.5hrs had finished eating and were just talking and drinking. Staff have every right to ask you to give up your table a reasonable amount of time after finishing eating as there are usually other people who have bookings after you waiting to be seated. I have done this myself when I worked as a maitre D. The staff even nicely gave them a half hour warning to finish up. It was only after the slightly drunk group of women started to object to be asking to finish up and cause trouble that the insults started flying and the police called.

So in this case, I don’t think discrimination due to belief occurred.

That’s rubbish, no one had booked their table. The bar “ manager “ is a liar and a misogynist

Ah, just realised that Edinburgh Evening News link was given in the OP! There's another report by Edinburgh Live which is so non specific that commentators are a bit baffled as to what it was all about.
Edinburgh Live is a rag, full of totally inaccurate rubbish. It panders to the TRA crowd

TBH I don't think it's on putting leaflets for anything in pub bogs without asking.

The manager sounds like decided to kick out when realised.

A PP said this pub is in wokesville, why choose that one?

I just dunno. What I do know is that in England staff can ask/ tell anyone to leave a pub and not have to give a reason.

If it's the same in Scotland. Then he was chucking them out because of their political beliefs. He said it was time up though. He can do that. And if same as England that's that. And if whoever don't leave then calling police is normal.

Sounds like both sides were up for a row really.

I've spent a good while today trying to make head or tail of this story when I saw it earlier.
From what I can gather, and going through tweets, the bar manager is a trans woman who had people turn up in her bar, refused to leave after being asked as they were intimidating people?
Plus a load of leaflets left lying about, although it's not clear who left them)
Also seems Hmm at the fact that the newspaper article continuously says he.
Because if they'd spent any amount of time checking their sources it seems that the bio was firmly tongue in cheek and being self deprecating on the stuff that had already been said by people tweeting her account.
Since when do newspapers not thoroughly check stuff like this?
