On Twitter, no reference.
If this is true it's a travesty.
I find it very hard to believe.

Life expectancy across the board in Liberia was 42 not so long ago.

Hmmm but dont most men transition in their 40s and 50s? Hows that work then? do they also age transition and actually die in their 70s and 80s like most of us?
NecessaryScene · 29/10/2021 07:44

Again, to reiterate, the "35" number is the average age of trans murder victims (somewhere).

Which is the same as the average age of all murder victims, pretty much everywhere.

Or, indeed, the average age of anyone...

Really interesting, FlyingOink, thank you.

tigerinyourtank · 30/10/2021 11:37

Not read the whole thread but I did autism training recently that said the average life expectancy of someone with autism was around 35.

KeflavikAirport · 30/10/2021 11:57

I'd need to see some really good sources to believe that. Are we talking UK? Worldwide?

KeflavikAirport · 30/10/2021 12:00

OK this suggests 39.5 years for people with severe autism and associated comorbidities: www.thinkingautism.org.uk/addressing-poor-health-high-death-rates-in-autism/

Voice0fReason · 30/10/2021 12:03

This thread has all of the answers that people need.
There are explanations and links to show where these figures came from and how they absolutely do not mean that being a transwoman means you are likely to die in your 30s. It's nonsense.

NoYOUbekind · 30/10/2021 12:04

@KeflavikAirport it's based on a Swedish survey from 2016.

Reasons are varied, but autistic people with LDs have a shockingly low life expectancy. Suicide rates for autistic men in particular are a lot higher than general population. Non-verbal autistic people have huge difficulties accessing treatment. Diabetes is much higher. And autism is often a co-morbidity with other life limiting illnesses - obvs in that case it's not the autism per se that would cause the early death.

This article explains some of this as it relates to the UK

KeflavikAirport · 31/10/2021 12:35

It seems to me that the active TRAs I see having their voices heard online and in the media are actually rather high in social capital.

Hoppinggreen · 31/10/2021 12:42

Well even if that were true (it’s not) it doesn’t mean that we should give them anything and everything they ask for

KeflavikAirport · 31/10/2021 12:51

Why is it not true? By definition if you have a media platform you are not socially disenfranchised.

Hoppinggreen · 31/10/2021 13:03

I mean the statistics around life expectancy

KeflavikAirport · 31/10/2021 13:25

ah ok!
