This is a violent, transphobic hate crime and I utterly condemn these men who attacked 21 year old Ruan Filipe in Bournemouth earlier this month.

This is terrible. The cynic in me would say that the police would have taken it far more seriously if it had been a transwoman.

This is the sort of things trans charities should be campaigning against, people being brutally attacked because of their presentation.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 25/06/2021 11:38

I'm not sure the police are correct here. I thought (have worked in this area) that hate crime could be logged with quite minimal details regarding identity of perpetrators.
It's strange the article doesn't cover that area. The spokesperson seems very pessimistic. The point of logging them isn't only for prosecuting but also to keep accurate statistics and prioritise funding.

What role do you think the constant anti-trans rhetoric of "gender critical" feminists played in this attack? absolutely none, as gender critical feminists didn't do this, men did.

I don't believe the police didn't want to know.

Anti-trans violence is an anti-trans problem.

This is an awful and shocking attack.

I’d be very surprised if the men who did this were motivated by gender critical feminism.

I don't believe the police didn't want to know.

Why not? We have discussed several horrific murders of women recently where the police have been incompetent, verging on disinterested.

Absolutely horrendous attack. More male violence.

IAmAWomanNotACis · 25/06/2021 11:45

Just to point out the bloody obvious for the lurkers:

This is transphobia.

This is a violent attack.

This is Literal Violence.

This is an assault to a trans person's safety.

Women disagreeing with you about women's rights is not literal violence. Women voicing points of view that you do not agree with is not a threat to trans people's safety. Women widely reject and find abhorrent actual, literal violence against trans people.

ScreamingMeMe · 25/06/2021 11:46

And please ignore the obviously goady post. Let's not have this thread derailed by somebody with an agenda.

Men attack a man and it’s all the fault of Feminists?

I can believe the police weren't particularly interested. If there were no witnesses and no CCTV then lines of investigation are basically zero, and so given the state of underfunding, they really aren't going to do any investigating here. Once the incident has been recorded, and perhaps the victim's statement is recorded, then that will be all that will happen.

Yes maybe you are right. Awful. It was a horrible attack.

Godwin's law so early on in a thread? Gosh I'm shocked.

Telling women that they are responsible for men's literal violence Hmm
in the words of your username, "yeahbutnaw".

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/06/2021 11:51

Looking at the pictures I think this young person is very very lucky. The knife wounds to their face look like scratches which should hopefully heal quickly. I have seen far, far worse working with young people.

yourhairiswinterfire · 25/06/2021 11:52

What role do you think the constant anti-trans rhetoric of "gender critical" feminists played in this attack?

Yeah, I'm sure thuggish men like this are hanging out on Mumsnet to get their fill of gender critical feminism before going out and committing violent acts Hmm

Maybe if more time and effort was spent acknowledging real transphobia and male violence instead of policing women for wrong think and putting up ribbons, we might fucking get somewhere.

ScreamingMeMe · 25/06/2021 11:53

I don't know if "not interested" is the right term then. Unable to take further, maybe?

How fucking awful for the victim.

yourhairiswinterfire · 25/06/2021 11:54

Maybe take a look at Nazi Germany to see what hateful rhetoric can lead to.

And knowing what a woman is and isn't is not hateful rhetoric or in any way comparable to the murder of millions of people. Give your head a bloody wobble man.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 25/06/2021 11:54

It's a shame sex/gender has been hived off from the rest of the feminist board but I hope it's still ok to point out that feminists, including gender critical feminists, are opposed to male violence.
It would be quite strange to try and argue otherwise.

PronounssheRa · 25/06/2021 11:54

1st rule of misogyny: Women are responsible for what men do

Councilworker · 25/06/2021 11:55

The type of men who use knives on other people don't care about women's views whether they are Gender Critical or Trans Rights Activists.
It's very alarming that the police don't seem to have acted on this, especially as Ruan reports the attackers had knives and a gun. Have any UK media picked up on this and contacted Dorset Police for a comment on why they have not acted?

ScreamingMeMe · 25/06/2021 11:57

I was wondering if they could issue some photofits? It is extremely worrying that there are armed men out there.
