www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/exclusive-three-more-women-attacked-by-knife-wielding-suspect-in-east-dulwich/

From the article:

"Today (June 15) a 53-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in custody while enquiries continue.

Police say they believe she is the only suspect, and had initially been mistaken for a man. "

Who had mistaken her for a man. The police? The victims?

Police have now admitted they were unable to race to the scene after dealing with a series of emergencies across the city the same night.

Perhaps the police could help us by defining a emergency. If an attempted strangulation by a stranger in a very public place doesn't qualify then I wonder what does? Are the local newspapers full of reports about the other crimes they were attending?

YellowFish12 · 17/06/2021 15:24

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

Is it possible they are transman? Transmen do superficially pass quite well, and they are known to have an offending rate higher that women not on testosterone. In my limited experience transmen can also look younger than you would expect.

I agree though, there is something very, very odd about this case.

But then the police would have just said man I think? The police don't like to mis-gender people it seems.

Dulwich Police twitter is going mad about this.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/06/2021 15:28

Sex specific body fluid e.g semen or breast milk? By giving more information about the fluid they would indicate the individuals sex?

That was my thought, and the reason I highlighted it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/06/2021 15:31

The boys in blue

Misgendering many of them! Jail for you.

peadarm · 17/06/2021 15:32

She reported that the unknown man had attacked her out of the blue on Wood Vale and tried to smash her head against a wall while her distraught child ran to try and find help.

Pink News will be appalled. The victim's 'misgendering' = "actual violence"?

andyoldlabour · 17/06/2021 15:37

Could someone please archive that twitter feed before Dulwich Police realise how stupid they have been.

This case and the articles others have posted...all of this feels like the definition of madness.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 17/06/2021 15:47

This just illustrates how stupid the whole thing is. It may be an unusually strong butch 53 year old woman. It may be a 53 year old transman. It may be a well preserved 53 year old man. Or it may be a transwoman. The public has no way of knowing, and as the statement is vastly different to what the victims reported it undermines confidence in the police.

Thank you so much. I am going to have to start learning how to do this, particularly now that so much stuff simply vanishes into the ether.

HeavenHotel · 17/06/2021 15:50

Hi I was the lady who was attacked and can say that the person who attacked me is in custody. I would ask people not to speculate if possible as I have been advised by the police that it’s in judicial proceedings which I don’t want to jeopardise. Many thanks

From the forum. Read into that what you may!!

andyoldlabour · 17/06/2021 15:54

I wonder if the police let any of the victims see images of the supposed perpetrator?

andyoldlabour · 17/06/2021 15:55

ItsAllGoingToBeFine

Cheers for that. Yet another thing to keep me out of mischief.

Cailleach1 · 17/06/2021 16:02

@zanahoria

the initial victim reported being strangled by a man

do you mean they misgendered them?

are the police investigating?

Maybe the police will put as many officers as possible to stamp out the crime of stating reality. Much more important than investigating someone who the victim stated was a man. Actually, maybe the victim will be convicted of that more abhorrent crime instead of the gentle flower who attacked her.
HeavenHotel · 17/06/2021 16:17

My heart breaks for the victim who has to say "the person who attacked me is now in custody"

It was surely traumatic enough without having to be careful of misgendering your attacker!!

Where's the Daily Mail when you want them?

Nothingyet · 17/06/2021 16:21

Male or female?:

CherieBabySpliffUp · 17/06/2021 16:28

There was a Twitter trend in support of transmen yesterday and people were posting photos of themselves etc.
One such photo showed a person with pink and blue eyeshadow and winged eyeliner. They had bright red lipstick on and were wearing a blouse with a bow. This person identified as a transman but I would guarantee that if 100 people were shown the photo they would all say that the person was a woman!
Is it any wonder that people are "misgendered"

Elbels · 17/06/2021 16:32

As someone who lives incredibly close to where these attacks have happened I genuinely don't care who did it but it's mind blowing the difference between the reports of the attacker and the description of who has been arrested.

Congressdingo · 17/06/2021 16:47

I do look forward to the photos during the court case

There will be no photos, a couple of years ago iirc it was decided by ??? Someone/various organisations cannot remember who, that photos of trans women (I assume trans men too but probably not) who commit crimes will not be published.

I'm quite sure that some word salad about feelz was utilized and the result is no photos on MSM. To find the sex of an alleged offender who committed a usually male crime requires looking on various sites.

And so we now do not trust anything reported in MSM because of just this one thing. It may as well all be lies.

florentini · 17/06/2021 16:47

Agreed. It's pretty local for me too and I can't fathom the age discrepancy let alone anything else.

MarshaBradyo · 17/06/2021 16:48

As long as they’ve got the person who did it. Local to me too

RickiTarr · 17/06/2021 16:51

I think “initially mistaken for a man” is an incredibly useful phrase. I am going to tuck it in my bra strap for future deployment.
