www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/exclusive-three-more-women-attacked-by-knife-wielding-suspect-in-east-dulwich/

From the article:

"Today (June 15) a 53-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in custody while enquiries continue.

Police say they believe she is the only suspect, and had initially been mistaken for a man. "

Who had mistaken her for a man. The police? The victims?

Police were 'unable to race to the scene'. Just such shite journalism. They failed to attend the scene. After all, the caller was obviously only a little bit strangled or she wouldn't be ringing them.

GreyhoundG1rl · 15/06/2021 22:00

@OneEpisode

Am I reading this right? She phoned the emergency services because she was strangled in front of her child, and the police said we’ll send someone in 3 days? With the assailant at large? Whilst elsewhere people are questioned about scary ribbons?
She should have reported a sticker crime. They'd have been there within seconds.
SunshineSum · 15/06/2021 22:05

Well this is just stupid now. Police don't come when a woman is strangled and when they do finally take notice of it no one even knows if they're looking for a man or a woman.

Same for the missing person in Derbyshire, no one knows who the frig they're looking for.

So that's two instances where police aren't giving the public sufficient information to be able to do anything useful. Why bother even releasing these stories?

CosyAcorn · 15/06/2021 22:06

How little do women's lives matter if the police won't come out even when a woman calls and says she has just been strangled on the street?

SunshineSum · 15/06/2021 22:08

Not exactly reassuring is it.

geojellyfish · 15/06/2021 22:09

It was the mum's fault for not sharing her pronouns before the attacker strangled her. She should have ensured they felt safe to share theirs.

Hmm

They were busy investigating limericks that had been retweeted.

Jesus H and the wee donkey!! What is 'dressed as a man' anyway? I'm wearing jeans and a hoodie, am I dressed as a man?

FannyCann · 15/06/2021 22:17

Ah. The clear voice of a child "it was the emperor and he had no clothes on".

And too young to be prosecuted for hate crime.

This is all so appalling.

SadSadSad

Alicethruthelookingglass · 15/06/2021 22:21

Hey, this can't be right because this never happens! /s

Rang four times. Fuck this world.

WarOnWoman · 15/06/2021 23:14

Lets not forget the female victims in this. 3 more women the headline says and that poor child who tried to get help. Sad

NiceGerbil · 15/06/2021 23:21

Oh ffs.

The police are rubbish.

On another note. Looks like the attacker was targeting women. I assume they stopped to ask potential victims for pronouns first to make sure they were s woman...

This needs to stop.

There could be other victims who if they hear woman did it will think not the same person.

Funny though, a woman dressed like that wouldn’t be considered to be dressing like a man. I certainly wouldn’t be mistaken for a man in that outfit plus ponytail.

Whatwouldscullydo · 15/06/2021 23:28

Next time we see hear of police phoning wonen iver stickers ir tweets let's just remember three poor woman and the traumatised child witness who were left unprotected.

EsmaCannonball · 15/06/2021 23:49

I guess we should be thankful the police didn't arrest the victims for misgendering their attacker.

It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

BettyFilous · 15/06/2021 23:49

@Doyoumind

Also a witness - the 10yo child - must have mistakenly identified the attacker as a man.
It’s this kind of casual misgendering which shows why Stonewall need to do their important work in schools.

/sarcasm

EyesOpening · 16/06/2021 00:03

Slight derail - The other day I was saw a man with his kids who were practising their cycling. They went up near a person and the dad shouted out (he was quite far away) "mind the lady!" and when they got back he asked if they had thanked the lady. It was quite (un)remarkable that he could see her pronoun badge tell that far away and it made me think how everyday it is that we do this

While expressing admiration at their Emporer's new "invisible" clothes, a small boy cried out... "But the Emperor has no clothes!"
UppityPuppity · 16/06/2021 06:35

As said repeatedly on this board - police inaccurately specifying details of suspects - particularly violent suspects actively puts the public - especially women at risk.

We know why the women stated the assailant was a man and why the assailant was able to do this repeatedly in a way a woman could not, nor with male victims.

Cowardly police.

And to not turn up when there is a risk of loss of life.

She should have used the wrong pronouns - that would have got them there earlier.

CosyAcorn · 16/06/2021 07:55

This story has been on my mind all night. It is just so disturbing. I tried looking to see if any other news outlets are reporting on it and couldn't find anything. Shouldn't this be more widely reported? There's nothing on BBC news.

I haven’t seen this reporter anywhere else. Some person is running around attacking women and it’s not report worthy?

AlfonsoTheMango · 16/06/2021 08:37

It's being memory-holed because the suspect is awkward.
