www.scotsman.com/news/people/lgbt-charities-launch-appeal-against-charity-commission-over-controversial-groups-status-3257923

"In April, the LGB Alliance was made a charity after the commission decided the group benefitted the public through its educational and awareness-raising activities about discrimination based on sexual orientation."

"On Tuesday, transgender children’s charity Mermaids launched an appeal against the decision at the first tier tribunal, supported by other charities and groups including Stonewall, Gendered Intelligence, and the Good Law Project."

Interesting- what were the tweets that led to that direction from the judge?

FindTheTruth · 11/11/2021 09:05

I don't know which tweets but it's talked about here

Mermaids have to go it alone? This is quite unusual right? Does anyone have a brief overview of the context and the tweets in question?

FindTheTruth · 11/11/2021 09:08

According to legal ppl it's highly unusual

Well this is interesting.

I wonder if it's related to fox killer calling LGB alliance a hate group?

I see The Fox Killer has deleted all of his Tweets after 25th June until just today, and is now concerned with government PPE contract revelations.

Of course his Tweets for that period will have been screenshot and the Tweets themselves archived. As The Fox Killer says, Keep the receipts.

I imagine Mermaids are absolutely incandescent and not best impressed with The Fox Killer right now. He might even have b5gg2rd the entire case before it has begun!

Dennis Noel Kavanagh QC mentioned on the Tweet linked above that it wasn't him who spotted that the Good Laugh Project forgot to mention that the tribunal hearing the case has prohibited them from having access to the case papers because of QCAnon's tweets - rather a sharp-eyed solicitor had spotted it.

I've noticed that The Fox Killer has a tendency, even with unrelated issues, to blurt-out everything The Good Laugh Project discerns and uncovers immediately on Twitter. That could be a bit of a liability - no need to tell the other side what you have! It suggests a degree of inexperience as I know from having worked for a global LLP, that revealing everything that research uncovers before having to disclose it is, in law circles, regarded as a tad bit amateurish.

But each to his own and I guess The Fox Killer has good reasons to do what he does. Though on this occasion he might struggle to explain that to Mermaids.

PronounssheRa · 11/11/2021 10:13

And again

the so-called LGB Alliance - a dark money funded astro-turfed hate group

twitter.com/JolyonMaugham/status/1330765359222296576

I'd wager there are more

PenguindreamsofDraco · 11/11/2021 10:15

This is so bizarre. Not the order (never seen one like it, but I have no familiarity with charities law/procedure, it could be standard), but the fact that is pointed as Foxy, who is a bloody QC and ought to be assumed to have a rudimentary grasp of what you can and can't do with docs disclosed in proceedings.

He does seem to have a problem with impulse control when it comes to twitter

Always a great idea to criticize The Charity Commission on Twitter when you are concerned with a case that involves...The Charity Commission. That Tweet and others are likely in the hands of the Charity Commissions QC.

And I imagine that Mermaids will have to be on best behaviour forever now, to avoid running afoul of the CC.

As mentioned below, The Fox Killer could be regarded as a bit of a liability.

I had a look to see who are the Good Law Project, it seems it is these people

goodlawproject.org/our-people/

Do for example the first person there Jo Maugham and the others do tweets on the ongoing court case? He's a QC. And the second person there is a lawyer. Gemma Abbott.

I call it First Day Syndrome. As in what some people exhibit in their roles when they come over as it being their very first day in the job, but doing it every single working day.

I wonder if interns learn much from The Fox Killer? Perhaps how not to do things, which in itself would be instructive I guess.

His unintentionally hilarious conspiracy theory that FiLia had sprung-up overnight as an anti-trans organisation with undisclosed money www.twitter.com/JolyonMaugham/status/1449295699829567489 suggests that basic research ain't his forte'.

Mermaids have to show LGBA charity status affects a legal right of theirs

Mermaids weak claim to 'competing donations' difficult to argue when their markets are different

OP posts:
Thelnebriati · 11/11/2021 11:50

Tribunal Judge Moira Macmillan ordered Mermaids to NOT share documents from the case with the Good Law Project and the LGBT Consortium

''given the concerns raised by LGB Alliance, I am satisfied that it is appropriate to make an Order restricting the disclosure and publication of documents obtained in the course of these proceedings.
Such an Order serves to reinforce the implied undertaking at common law that documents disclosed in the course of litigation will only be used for the purposes of the litigation concerned''

Thats interesting.

CompleteGinasaur · 11/11/2021 14:41

Just re=dug.

No foxes were harmed in the making of this donation...

dolorsit · 11/11/2021 15:20

I'm sorry I don't understand. I thought the Good Law Project were representing Mermaids. Why would the Good Law Project expect to see the court disclosures if they weren't the reps?

KittenKong · 11/11/2021 15:38

Speaking of charities... I have seen that the Movement for Good 12 days of giving charity donation is giving away £120k over 120 charities. You just have to nominate...

So it's the branding... proper grifter isn't he?

WeeBisom · 13/11/2021 03:05

Is he really this stupid? A QC, who has presumably been in courts for a few years, openly admits he doesn’t know the rules of civil procedure and doesn’t know the difference between a witness statement and a “document”? Whew. Who is going to hire him after that admission?

WeeBisom · 13/11/2021 03:08

Also “be optimistic because branding” is dystopian and dark as hell. The second rainbow merchandise fails to turn a profit the brands will drop it.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/11/2021 06:49

He's no longer practising as a barrister, is he? He left his Chambers and IIRC there was some sort of badmouthing going on. I saw some very funny photoshopped versions of that selfie on Twitter.

FindTheTruth · 13/11/2021 07:01

Now the Fox killer faces legal action. He published extracts from court case witness statements. The fox killer doesn't know the difference between CPR 32 (documents) with CPR 31 (evidence)

Legal folk are asking... how does a QC not know this?
twitter.com/Jebadoo2/status/1459172035951828999

Might be why the judge in the LGB Alliance case, banned Mermaids from sharing case documents with him
