www.scotsman.com/news/people/lgbt-charities-launch-appeal-against-charity-commission-over-controversial-groups-status-3257923

"In April, the LGB Alliance was made a charity after the commission decided the group benefitted the public through its educational and awareness-raising activities about discrimination based on sexual orientation."

"On Tuesday, transgender children’s charity Mermaids launched an appeal against the decision at the first tier tribunal, supported by other charities and groups including Stonewall, Gendered Intelligence, and the Good Law Project."

@StaffRepFeistyClub

Forgot the k

£666,000

Lot of dosh!

It is not just a couple of parents. It is a business

Wasn't most of that from that gamer troll who was trolling @Glinner ?
PearPickingPorky · 04/06/2021 05:01

@StaffRepFeistyClub

As for stonewall £8315995 income. 151 employees of which 5 earn between 70k-80k and two earn between 100k-110k
I wonder how much their in-house lawyers get paid.

The ones who advise organisations incorrect on the law.

Gotta love *@yeahbutnaw*. She's the perfect foil for GC MNetters to educate lurkers via the Socratic method 👍
Indeed! Thank you from a lurker...

Alas the accounts are not detailed enough for further break downs as to how much is spent on legal fees.

Bloody cheek to run a funding campaign for any legal work when they are racking in money

That is the problem with charities once they reach a certain size they have to get more and more money in just to cover the ever increasing wage bill and the discussion junkets for lobbyists

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/06/2021 08:14

GLP can’t even bring itself to include “sex” in its self-defined list of protected characteristics:

Strange, for a legal campaigning organisation, to not adhere to the Equality Act characteristics. "Gender" is not a synonym for sex.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/06/2021 08:21

Silly of me, I thought you might be interested in a sensible discussion, but obviously not. I’m sure it’s much more satisfying to just shout slurs than it is to think about what’s happening.

I'm catching up on a few days and it seems this is happening with various posters across various threads. Oh dear, it looks like that's all those posters have to contribute.

MellieBellie · 05/06/2021 09:20

Flowers Lurker here, thanks for all of the informative posts. Love threads like these, they're a great resource for anyone who is trying to understand what's happening with women's rights.

Lies, smears, doctored pictures, slurs and insults.

Is that really all there is to counter feminist's points? Surely there's SOMETHING more to contribute to the discussion?

Is this actually what was meant by 'no debate'?

Jolyon is worried that the government are going to clamp down on crowd funding.

Something we need to keep an eye on, but a 'government source' seems particularly worried about when you might think you are funding one thing when your donation is actually going elsewhere.

For those blocked, Jolyon has posted this, which if true seems like the government are trolling the fox killer.

It would certainly bring the crowdfunding of GLP's undertaking against the LGB Alliance into question.

RedDogsBeg · 05/06/2021 18:09

I am a bit hmm at that supposed comment from a 'Government source', the fact it mentions foxed in relation to JM is a little too convenient.

Money laundering?

Coming across as cynical but .....

It's curious, but JM shared it in the belief that it is true, otherwise, well that would mean he was misleading?
EmbarrassingAdmissions · 05/06/2021 18:47

Money laundering?

Coming across as cynical but .....

Certainly open to that sort of abuse - but I also wonder if JM is trying to get his framing of Buckland's reforms out there so that is what is discussed before anyone else has the opportunity to understand what Buckland is proposing?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/06/2021 19:19

Jolyon is setting up a legal firm now...

Erikrie · 05/06/2021 19:30

Crikey I wouldn't want to go and work there. I wouldn't want my CV to be tarnished.

Paralithic · 05/06/2021 19:57

How are they funding a £60k salary?

NecessaryScene · 05/06/2021 19:59

They do crowdfunders ostensibly to appeal other organisations' charitable status.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 05/06/2021 21:32

@Paralithic

How are they funding a £60k salary?
Somebody on FWR (or Twitter - don't quite recall) posted the Good Law Project's accounts the other day - they're healthy with a decent subscription income.
Paralithic · 05/06/2021 22:05

Yes, I’ve looked at them too. A significant part of the funds are held to cover costs.

It was more that I was wondering if the GLP was going to become a limited company, who is providing the funds right now to take on a £60k appointment?

ArabellaScott · 05/06/2021 22:18

From the job ad: 'We welcome and encourage applicants from all backgrounds and do not discriminate on the basis of age, disability, LGBT or relationship status, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex or social class'.

Paralithic · 05/06/2021 22:25

Which is all well and good, but where are the funds to pay for staff?

FindTheTruth · 05/06/2021 23:17

Helen Staniland brings up several interesting angles (again) including:

  • none of the big UK charities are going to want this to win.
  • the sexist language on Mermaids funder page; 'whispered sweet nothings into the charity commissions ear'
  • If Mermaids won it would be A Pyrrhic victory (a victory that inflicts such a devastating toll on the victor that it is tantamount to defeat.)

Arty Morty points out:

  • Stonewall were an LGB charity until 2014. Mermaids are now saying it's so hateful it's not allowed to exist
  • What other gay and lesbian groups are going to be banned?
  • sixth news cycle in a row for Stonewall, they're just not getting out of the news (this episode was 2nd June and there's been a lot more news coverage since then!)
  • straight people completely taking over gay rights and harassing lesbians

Naomi Cunningham legal feminist who started the FOI Don’t submit to Stonewall campaign, says:

  • The FOIs came about when she researched how Stonewall had got hold of our legal institutions and her jaw dropped.
  • The courts, MOJ, police, CPS were paying SW to lobby them. That caused her to write that caused me to write the legal feminist blog article, called submission and compliance
  • she launched the mass freedom of information campaign in a fit of bad temper one afternoon having no idea not the slightest idea about the extent to which it would take off . i just thought damn it they are capturing our institutions, persuading all our public bodies to pay them to be lobbied and then setting them this humiliating tedious open book examination on how well they've digested the lobbying and and internalised it. just get this all out in the open

AfternoonToffee · 05/06/2021 23:20

Yes, they really haven't thought this through, at all.
