Liz Truss urges official withdrawal from Stonewall diversity scheme

Sorry, I don't have a share token but www.thetimes.co.uk/article/liz-truss-urges-official-withdrawal-from-stonewall-diversity-scheme-9df7pvsrn

Basically, Liz Truss "is pushing for all government departments to withdraw from Stonewall’s employment scheme following a row over transgender rights." because "she shared the concerns raised by the EHRC over the scheme’s value for money, particularly as the civil service has its own in-house workplace diversity programme."

Whether or not the reasons stated are true (I have my doubts) this is a good thing!

JoodyBlue

Any JKR fans seeing parallels with the fall of The Ministry of Magic and preceding horrors in the Harry Potter books? Weirdly prophetic smile

I've seen parallels all the time between HP books and what's happened to JKR / women. The posters in HP books 'undesirable No. 1' parallel tweets by TRAs - e.g. David Paisley, Michael Cashman, Crispin Blunt. The unforgivable curses parallel what's been done to children. The impreious curse is teaching non conforming children 'born in the wrong body'. The cruciatus curse is the agony of cross sex hormones; vaginal atrophy, depression, masectomies. The Killing curse parallels many things....

Agree Joody prophetic.

On police forces, if the home office withdraw from the scheme, this should trickle down to individual police forces

Good

‘I think this all started with women on here FWR, from Grassroots women's rights groups that started with posters finding out about injustices on FWR here, to thousands of determined women taking action publicly or behind the scenes.’

Absolutely.

RedDogsBeg · 31/05/2021 09:40

This is good news but I agree with other posters there has to be a Public Enquiry as to why tax payers money was being given to a political lobbying group, a group that misrepresents the law, a group that has insidiously influenced government.

I bet Crispin Blunt is choking on his cornflakes this morning, I am sure he will unleash more attacks on Liz Truss later today.

@FlyPassed

Does anyone have a sharetoken please? The one upthread only gives me the opening paragraph
I've been having the same problem. The Times seems to have decided I've read my quota of sharetokens and is pushing me to take part in a free subscription trial instead. I found an archive version of the article instead archive.ph/itlbe
MiladyBerserko · 31/05/2021 09:46

I posted one earlier. Let me know if it doesn't work.

I assumed this wouldn't have been a unilateral decision from Liz Truss alone but that several MPs and members of the HoL are aware of the situation and have raised concerns.

I wonder if Liam Fox will be the first of many giving their support?

OhHolyJesus · 31/05/2021 09:49

The enormity of this is starting to hit me.

If we see this topple in real time in coming weeks and months, for one, women's job are safer. Just this week my friend lost her job of 10 years because she has been talking about surgeons operating on children and she was doxxed. That is down to the cancel culture SW created. The #NoDebate campaign they started where anyone who speaks against gender ideology is a heretic, a bigot, now a Nazi.

SW diversity champions scheme is now worthless. Worse, it’s now officially a liability.

I realise this is just the beginning and we must keep going but, what happened to my friend shouldn't have happened and it will unlikely not happen again if we SW can be cancelled.

MaudTheInvincible · 31/05/2021 09:52

No your one doesn't work for me either, Milady. Thanks for posting it though. I just get a couple of paragraphs and then an offer to the free trial.

Yep, it did. RadFems had been sounding the alarm for a long time but it was the wonderful antics of Man Friday that really got media attention.

I'm in awe of the women who have worked tirelessly on so many different fronts. I'm amazed we got this far- though there is so much further to go.

Tibtom · 31/05/2021 10:01

I think we are nearly, but not quite, at high tide. There will be push back yet but the fact that uncertainty has crept in is great.

The question in Scotland is whether the elected dictatorship there push this through before the tide really starts to run. If they do it quick they can point to the 'Westminster' (aka English) meanies but find themselves in a mess as the waters receed and the wrecks are exposed.

donquixotedelamancha · 31/05/2021 10:03

SW diversity champions scheme is now worthless. Worse, it’s now officially a liability.

Don't underestimate them. They still have huge influence over thousands of orgs.

Think how much SW and a couple of other NGOs achieved between 2004 and 2014 before the push back gained traction. Keep in mind what they are selling is batshit, but they got most of the establishment to buy it.

FindTheTruth · 31/05/2021 10:04

Women on FWR have been furious and made this happen. And Lesbians on FWR have been raging about Stonefall for years; like this classic from 5 years ago

Stonewall UK: "Acceptance without exception.” Your fucking minds are so open your brains have fallen out. Lesbians exist. And this is not it. You do not represent us. You are absolutely fucking treacherous money-taking bastards.”
bitheby · 31/05/2021 10:06

Reading the comments section makes me feel like those of us who knew we were on the right side of history now feel able to be open about it. I'm putting much more in my own name on Twitter and Facebook now than I ever felt brave enough to do so before. I know they won't go down without a fight but there are more of us than there are of them.

This is has never been about removing the rights of trans people but all about protecting the rights of women and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.

It's fascinating to watch. I've been gc for years but have largely kept quiet about it. On FB, I've seen the penny drop for more and more women, who are now starting to share gender-critical views. What's hilarious is that I still have one friend who has really drunk the Kool Aid and thinks the rest of us have been "radicalised".

NecessaryScene1 · 31/05/2021 10:17

Props to the Times journalist for this finely crafted sentence:

The scheme counts 250 government departments and public bodies among its 850 members, which pay for guidance on issues such as pronouns and gender-neutral spaces.

LalalalalalaLand123 · 31/05/2021 10:17

Such great news!! Stonewall need to be out of EVERY organisation - schools, universities, all government, regulatory bodies, judiciary, police, local government etc etc. They are a misogynistic horror-show.

LalalalalalaLand123 · 31/05/2021 10:18

@NecessaryScene1 I admired that sentence too!

Tibtom · 31/05/2021 10:24

illegal guidance on gender neutral spaces which also pays no attention to their PSED.

Liam Fox is a knob about many issues, but he does understand this one. I suspect his PA - Ione Douglas - could be a life long feminist. Formidable woman.

proudwomansexmatters · 31/05/2021 10:31

YES!!!! Well done Liz. I'll be sending an email over to her later thanking her!

PerkingFaintly · 31/05/2021 10:40

That sounds rather Dominic Cummings, TedImgoingmad. Politicians and their personally appointed advisors get caught doing something shit... so it must be professional civil servants' fault. Poor little MPs: too scared to know their own minds.

Talking of which, I expect that opportunist Cummings and his ilk genuinely will seize on this, just as he twisted his own Covid failings to claim they were somehow the fault of the structure of government. And claimed he Boris being unfit for office was the fault of the structure of government (nothing to do with the structure of your electioneering, then, Dom?).

And generally I think we'll now see a lot of this.

This board has done excellent work on the balancing of trans rights and women's rights, but plenty of other activity on the issue has very visibly been by people who blatantly don't give a shit about either. The disruption has just been a useful vehicle for their other agendas.

I suspect those people won't care which direction the train is moving. As long as it IS moving, it's an opportunity for them to say, "It was all the fault of [this week's bogeyman I'd like you to attack]"

CaveMum · 31/05/2021 10:42

@Leafstamp agree that he’s a knob on many issues. I suspect his support for this issue is also due to his background as a GP - he knows the difference between sex and gender.

Leafstamp · 31/05/2021 10:48

Yes good point CaveMum.

The more people in influential positions that support binning Stonewall (and anything else that supports feminism) has to be a good thing.

nauticant · 31/05/2021 10:54

This stuff is remarkably easy to turn into satire:

twitter.com/jebrux/status/1399297096864260101

However, it's becoming more difficult to distinguish between satire and reality.

Liz Truss's intervention encouraged me to write to my MP. I went for short and sweet saying that this was something that would go down well with the mainstream of the UK public, and certainly would go down much better than them being likened to anti-Semites for having wholly unremarkable and sensible views.
