Liz Truss urges official withdrawal from Stonewall diversity scheme

Sorry, I don't have a share token but www.thetimes.co.uk/article/liz-truss-urges-official-withdrawal-from-stonewall-diversity-scheme-9df7pvsrn

Basically, Liz Truss "is pushing for all government departments to withdraw from Stonewall’s employment scheme following a row over transgender rights." because "she shared the concerns raised by the EHRC over the scheme’s value for money, particularly as the civil service has its own in-house workplace diversity programme."

Whether or not the reasons stated are true (I have my doubts) this is a good thing!

Penny Mordaunt's brother was engaged to a certain TWAW spouting David Paisley

Also Shock

Value for money is a polite way of saying stonewall advice isn't sound and could lead to us breaking the law, so why the hell are we paying for this.

On police forces, if the home office withdraw from the scheme, this should trickle down to individual police forces.

Any JKR fans seeing parallels with the fall of The Ministry of Magic and preceding horrors in the Harry Potter books? Weirdly prophetic Smile

There needs to be a very public inquiry. If this just fades quietly away, the same thing could happen again.

That explains a lot.
Datun · 31/05/2021 08:25

There should be a public inquiry into how Stonewall was able to infiltrate these public bodies and many others so easily, and use them in a way that resulted in real detriments to women, girls and to free speech

Agreed. And now the spotlight needs turning on schools.

FlyPassed · 31/05/2021 08:25

Thank you Smile @MiladyBerserko

Thecatonthemat · 31/05/2021 08:27

Good news. Now for the repeal of the GRA perhaps..

NeedNewKnees · 31/05/2021 08:27

This is fantastic news!

OhHolyJesus · 31/05/2021 08:32

Can Stonewall still co-lead the U.K. LGBT conference with Kaleidoscope and Argentina?

I can't see how that could possibly work now. Hope they lose that gig too. It should go to the LGB Alliance but it's a pretty big ask.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 31/05/2021 08:41

Don’t celebrate too soon. Every time I we have stepped forward there has been another rearguard action. We have seen it with the recent shift to using anti-Semitic as an argument.

We have to keep writing those letters and never let up. It’s dystopian that we have to use our time, money and energy to keep the protections we already have, rather than in trying to go forward on all the issues that are still not solved. But we do.

All of this has turned me from someone who was a great LGBT supporter with trans friends to someone I never thought I would be. And it has damaged so many of our institutions and many I fear beyond repair. I am thinking of the BBC as an example. All trust and pride I had in them is long gone.

TheABC · 31/05/2021 08:41

Agreed - we need to keep a firm eye on schools as that's Stonewall's stated target.

It's so sad; a lifetime ago, I would have been happy knowing that gay/bi/lesbian teenagers were being supported to be themselves. Now, I am worried about an ideology that proclaims them trans if they don't gender conform - from a charity built to embrace nonconformity! That's before you even get to the single sex safeguarding problems.

It's bonkers.

Tabasco007 · 31/05/2021 08:47

What an excellent article and the comments are great too.

WarriorN · 31/05/2021 08:49

It's great news. Yes, the more this is publicised, the more schools will listen. Hopefully ofsted too, as what ever ofsted want schools do immediately.

Maybe now would be a time to buy the HP books again?
WheeshtYerMansplaining · 31/05/2021 08:58

Agreed, @TheABC. The term 'LGBT' used to be a (supposedly) convenient shorthand loosely meaning those who don't conform to hetero-normativity. It wasn't supposed to be a set of bloody instructions, 'LGB? Then you = T!'

I think the term has had its day, given it's been manipulated and subverted by Stonewall to the detriment of women and girls.

And Stonewall, I also agree, now needs tackling on its homophobic reach into schools.

TedImgoingmad · 31/05/2021 09:05

@Cuntryhouse

Does this mean I can look forward to not being permanently angry?
Probably not. If and when they fall, there should be an inquiry into how Stonwall infiltrated every corner of public service.

My guess is civil service. Stonewall didn't charge in through the front door of Westminster one morning, and unlikely Tory allies throw their arms around them like the prodigal son, giving them the fatted calf and the family jewels. I am guessing they snuck in through the back door a long time ago, ushered in via the civil service. And whilst a load of young, ambitious, principle free ministers were busy dealing with the big ticket items that would make their future book deals and lecture circuit gigs much more attractive, the "Yes Minister" movers and shakers in the background were helping Stonewall to quietly ransack the place. The glut of new and vocal young MPs coming into Parliament over the last 10 years would not have known anything different. The old guard either don't care (Tories) or feel too frightened of appearing out of touch/not down with the youth (Labour, Libs) or are simply too kind to question it.

It's the perfect shit storm. A complete failing of the political system on the one hand - where are the critical thinkers? Or just those who can apply common sense? Although again, "common sense" is just a bit fuddy duddy, sounds like something your (fucking awesome and totally wise) grandma would say; coupled with MPs acting out of kindness and social liberalism, applied again without thinking, thinking about why social boundaries are in place in the first place; coupled finally with a rotten and nefarious element in government that could see exactly what it was doing and why. MN moderation policy doesn't permit me to articulate what I think about them any further.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 31/05/2021 09:05

Wowsers! That's huge.

I must admit though my second thought was "oh crap the SNP/scotgov will be pushing self ID harder than ever"

Thank you for the share token.

Erikrie · 31/05/2021 09:15

That's absolutely fantastic news.

Erikrie · 31/05/2021 09:19

and we really need to be examining how Stonewall membership has influenced govt departments

Yes, there are definitely lessons to be learnt here for the future. Not just Stonewall, but any organised group that appears to be planning a takeover of women's / human rights.

thecompletenonsequitur · 31/05/2021 09:22

Stonewall trending on Twitter.

Tibtom · 31/05/2021 09:24

Not just Stonewall, but any organised group that appears to be planning a takeover of women's / human rights.

It goes wider than those issues. This is about a political organisation infiltrating what is meant to be an impartial public sector and influencing decision making undermining parliament and democracy.

Tibtom · 31/05/2021 09:25

Can you imagine the outcry if the NHS and civil service decided to become corporate members of the labour party?
