@Cuntryhouse
Does this mean I can look forward to not being permanently angry?
Probably not. If and when they fall, there should be an inquiry into how Stonwall infiltrated every corner of public service.
My guess is civil service. Stonewall didn't charge in through the front door of Westminster one morning, and unlikely Tory allies throw their arms around them like the prodigal son, giving them the fatted calf and the family jewels. I am guessing they snuck in through the back door a long time ago, ushered in via the civil service. And whilst a load of young, ambitious, principle free ministers were busy dealing with the big ticket items that would make their future book deals and lecture circuit gigs much more attractive, the "Yes Minister" movers and shakers in the background were helping Stonewall to quietly ransack the place. The glut of new and vocal young MPs coming into Parliament over the last 10 years would not have known anything different. The old guard either don't care (Tories) or feel too frightened of appearing out of touch/not down with the youth (Labour, Libs) or are simply too kind to question it.
It's the perfect shit storm. A complete failing of the political system on the one hand - where are the critical thinkers? Or just those who can apply common sense? Although again, "common sense" is just a bit fuddy duddy, sounds like something your (fucking awesome and totally wise) grandma would say; coupled with MPs acting out of kindness and social liberalism, applied again without thinking, thinking about why social boundaries are in place in the first place; coupled finally with a rotten and nefarious element in government that could see exactly what it was doing and why. MN moderation policy doesn't permit me to articulate what I think about them any further.
