Priti Patel Doing Her Job

Priti Patel, our Home Secretary, has been photographed attending the arrest of suspected people traffickers in London . Great you would think, the prosecution of organised crime, modern day slavery being rooted out and made an example of.

Yet ATM on SM there are masses of comments where Priti Patel is being described as a Nazi, Goebbels, evil bitch, ugly faced cow, Fascist, concentration camp guard, child murderer, and so on. She is even being criticised for her shoes, the type of footwear many South Asian heritage women wear. Also accused of masturbating (she has her hands in her pockets in the photo)

Most of these comments are from men. Why so much hate for a woman doing a tough job?

She oversaw the passing of the domestic abuse bill into law, which made post separation coercive control, suffocation and strangulation into crimes and saw children recognised as victims of domestic violence in their own right. Men can no longer claim "sex game gone wrong" and therefore get away with murder by raping after (and therfore get away with rape, by murdering after).

For that, she has my thanks and my gratitude.

LadyWithLapdog · 23/05/2021 22:54

A bill on which hundreds of people and organisations have worked, not PP. Also a bill that excludes protection for migrant women.

askingrandomsonlinemighthelp · 23/05/2021 23:00

Talking about her shoes, race, looks etc. is not on. She is a massive bellend for everything she stands for though. Awful, awful woman.

Oh wow, she made basic violent things become crimes. Must make her a saint Hmm

I'm sorry but it doesn't make up for all the awful things she has overseen.

This woman causes a visceral reaction whenever I hear her name or see her. I used to consider myself a feminist so I highly doubt it's because of her sex. I'm not white, so I highly doubt it's because of her race. She's just a hateful person with disgusting views, and yes I hate her.

MargaritaPie · 24/05/2021 00:12

There's nothing wrong with her shoes per se, but they don't seem to match the rest of her outfit in that picture.

TheRealMrsW · 24/05/2021 00:24

I believe Ms Patel is a great HS. People dislike her because she a woman of colour. I feel she is firm and fair. I think this country has been a soft target because of our liberalism. However, people have grown tired of Tiny Blair's Open door policy over the years without infrastructure implementation put first. Enough is enough.

Hi Priti 👋🏼
lavenderlou · 24/05/2021 00:43

What is frustrating is that because of some of these mysoginistic comments she will now garner sympathy.

Comments about her should be focussed on her despicable politics, dubious intelligence and generally racist attitude. The same way they would be applied to a male politician who behaved similarly to her. Making criticsm of her gender-specific just undermines the other very valid criticisms of her.

SmokedDuck · 24/05/2021 00:51

Criticism of policies, or even personal character, are fine, but in general I think it's sully to criticise political figures being present for photo ops. To some extent it's part of their jobs and while there are some that push it into bad taste, that doesn't seem to be the case here.

I don't know that it's reasonable to expect that people will not notice or comment on things like the clothes of public figures. People just notice - and it's not always women either. Women have it harder in terms of clothes though, men if they want to can fly under the radar whereas women's clothing has a lot more scope for going wrong. But in either case to me there is a difference between people noticing and commenting in a meaningless gossipy way, and doing so in a mean-spirited way, or to discredit them in their jobs.

I do think non-white conservatives can get a certain amount of special flack from the left, though I'm not sure it's deliberately targeted.

SmokedDuck · 24/05/2021 00:52

she knows that a brown woman wouldn't get much support from the average Tory voter

I don't know that I've really seen any evidence of this. It seems like the kind of thing certain Labour supporters believe which is not accurate and is leading them to misread the political landscape at the moment.

Blacktothepink · 24/05/2021 00:54

@Devlesko

I'm a woman and agree with their comments. Look at what she is doing to travellers, how racist she is. I can't wish her bad enough tbh, and put a curse on her a couple of months ago, hope it works. Evil woman. HTH
Let’s hope it works 😂

I know what they did was a crime, but the trafficking they did wasn't the forcing people against their will type into the UK. They people they smuggled into the UK wanted to come here and were willing to pay someone to smuggle them in

Do you have a source for this? That they were trafficking into the UK?

Trafficking can be within the UK. County to county. Grooming Gangs for example

So telling people you have a well paid job for them, so they want to come, then them ending up in prostitution is ok? Because that covers the above description.
And why are we happy to welcome so many men from these countries, where are their wives and DCs, parents , who is providing for them. The men clear off to another life. Nice for them.

Oh you're funny. Women of colour hate her too. She is a racist, and you support her. Not a great thing to admit to.
YellowFish12 · 24/05/2021 16:25

PP has awful politics and is terrible at her job.

However, as a PP says:
The comments on SM are totally wrong and are because she is female and non-white. Just like Theresa May used to get, and Diane Abbott does too.*

I'm a bit doubtful that Priti Patel strutting around at an early morning arrest of vulnerable people is going to do much for the cause of vulnerable women and girls. I 'm reasonably confident that she doesnt care about girls unless they are alumni of Cheltenham ladies etc... I'm also quite confident that no matter how odious she is, the commentators on her footwear may well be creepy GC men.

I agree and I'm from the same demographic as her. She is a racist.

The Domestic Abuse Bill was introduced by Theresa May’s government and was delayed by Johnson’s shenanigans in proroguing Parliament.

It’s a bit rich to say Patel can claim responsibility for passing the Bill.

They are not vulnerable, they have been arrested for PEOPLE TRAFFICKING !

...is going to do much for the cause of vulnerable women and girls

That's exactly who these arrests will help

Don't kid youself , she's a racist Tory who would sell her own grandma if she thought there £5 in it. Yes, she probably hates trans which I can imagine may be a plus for some people but, she's in it for the cruelty. Pure evil.

Zinco · 25/05/2021 04:50

but, she's in it for the cruelty. Pure evil.

Projecting the worst possible motives onto your political opponents... does that make you one of the good ones?

twelly · 25/05/2021 05:25

I don't agree with many things that she says, but we live in a free country. She was voted in as part of the government fairly in a democratic election. We have a right to disagree with a persons views but we don't have a right to then vilify them.

Iggly · 25/05/2021 05:32

I’d hate to think for a second that the abuse that PP gets on social media (which, I haven’t actually seen by the way) excuses her appalling track record.

She has shown herself to be a narrow minded racist quite frankly.

Social media is a cesspit. It shows the worse in society. If you turn off Twitter then it’s not really a mainstream issue. Twitter is not representative of real life!
