Priti Patel Doing Her Job

Flaxmeadow · 20/05/2021 12:53

Priti Patel, our Home Secretary, has been photographed attending the arrest of suspected people traffickers in London . Great you would think, the prosecution of organised crime, modern day slavery being rooted out and made an example of.

Yet ATM on SM there are masses of comments where Priti Patel is being described as a Nazi, Goebbels, evil bitch, ugly faced cow, Fascist, concentration camp guard, child murderer, and so on. She is even being criticised for her shoes, the type of footwear many South Asian heritage women wear. Also accused of masturbating (she has her hands in her pockets in the photo)

Most of these comments are from men. Why so much hate for a woman doing a tough job?

I see 'pointless, showboating photo opportunities' and I think 'Ruth Davidson'. Boy, that woman used to love a photo opp.

Crowsaregreat · 21/05/2021 14:29

I'm not one posting any messages about her but I hate her with a passion.

You can't remove sex and race from the equation. She goes out of her way to be vicious and hateful towards immigrants in order to boost her profile with the far right of her party. I very much doubt it's out of genuine conviction, she knows that a brown woman wouldn't get much support from the average Tory voter but they might feel less ashamed of their own prejudice if someone like her makes it seem ok.

She's trying to be like Thatcher, making herself into a caricature in order to gain power. It's absolutely cynical and appeals to the worst of humanity.

FindTheTruth · 21/05/2021 14:48

taking part in a photo op is because this is what politicians do. Ministers like to be seen engaged with their brief. In this case PP is publicising the trafficking issue.

Yes. all politicians do photo ops. A man with the same policies, in the same party, doing the same photo op would not get this level of abuse.

Quincie · 21/05/2021 14:53

Would they get any abuse?
Can't remember the last time we had a criticism of a male politician doing this ( I mean InThe last few months - not ever)

There was in my view a very unfair thread about Matt Hancock.
Needmoresleep · 21/05/2021 18:35

Am I missing something?

Laws around modern day slavery are fairly new. I am not sure I would have understood what they were about unless arrests were not publicised.

The local police and local paper were making a big thing about a multi agency operation a couple of weeks back. I assume in part to deter future criminal activity of this type (and thus the resultant human suffering). If Priti had taken the photo op it probably would have made the national papers.

I am happy to question the motives of any politician. However I am pleased that action against this sort of activity is being highlighted. So confused at why there is such criticism.

Female politicians seem to need super thick skins. Its equally easy to make a list of Labour politicians who have had a rough ride (especially those who are GC.) No wonder so few are interested, and that those we have often seem, well, thick-skinned.

MargaritaPie · 21/05/2021 18:39

So what's the story? Are the arrested men proven to be traffickers or are they just illegal immigrants to be deported?

Haven't RTFT but don't Labour hate successful people from ethnic minority backgrounds? I am not a fan of PP's work but a huge number of people in this country are fans. I don't live in an area where there are lots of illegal immigrants, I live in a an area where people are well off and well educated. Anyone of colour in my area has a similar background to me. I find it patronising at the very least to push my comfortable views onto those who are not so fortunate.

PP's party have a resounding majority and their manifesto (I believe) was to be strong on illegal immigration. I may not like it, but I believe in democracy and I believe that trying to drown out voices by calling them racists, means that we lack any understanding of the people of this country who have not benefited from Globalisation and University education and well off parents.

Big fat harrumph..... your turn

Er, no, Labour don't 'hate successful people from ethinic minority backgraounds'. They have loads of very successfu people in their own ranks, from varied ethinic minority backgrounds.
highame · 22/05/2021 16:51

Maybe it's just an impression they've been giving. Not the Labour of my family and we go back to the beginnings

HmmmmmmInteresting · 22/05/2021 16:55

@Devlesko

I'm a woman and agree with their comments. Look at what she is doing to travellers, how racist she is. I can't wish her bad enough tbh, and put a curse on her a couple of months ago, hope it works. Evil woman. HTH

LadyWithLapdog · 22/05/2021 17:15

Stupid, evil, racist, corrupt.

This has nothing to do with her skin colour or sex. Plenty more in her party.

Moondust001 · 22/05/2021 17:27

People seem more outraged by the photos she posted, than they are about the people trafficking gangs. Why is it when she attempts to raise awareness about these exploiters of human beings, these slavers, she is piled on?

(a) Because the thread that you started is about her photo, not about human trafficking. If you want everyone to be outraged about human trafficking, then a thread on human trafficking would be the way to do it.
(b) She is not raising awareness of exploiters or slavers - she is posing to get her photo taken and noticed. Given her public statements about most issues, and her personal exploitation and bullying of employees, I suspect she doesn't really give a fukc about traffickers unless it gets her name noticed.

Yes, and look what people say about them and their appearance. It's not just Pretti Patel, look at what they say about bumbling Boris appearance and they're right he's a scruffy baffoon. Not because he's a man, or a Politician, or tory, but because he's racist, evil, stupid, and corrupt.
Imasoulman · 22/05/2021 17:56

She is a vile human being !

She openly supports and admires the RSS who are a facist movement.

Lying treacherous bully

They have been charged with people trafficking.

Some people genuinely can't distinguish between people traffickers and refugees: they're all the same homogenous bunch. They don't see the deaths or the bonded labour.

Or they just don't pay attention: even Adil Ray thought it was an immigration raid rather than a raid on a human trafficking network triggered by a National Crime Agency investigation.

Gosh, the sentences these people receive are pitiful! No wonder they think it's worth the risk.

MargaritaPie · 23/05/2021 21:08

I know what they did was a crime, but the trafficking they did wasn't the forcing people against their will type into the UK. They people they smuggled into the UK wanted to come here and were willing to pay someone to smuggle them in.

I don't know if that makes it any "better".

But either way Patel is a politician, since when do politicians attend arrests?

Susie477 · 23/05/2021 21:41

Priti Patel is the best Home Secretary for decades. She is actually prepared to tackle human trafficking & illegal immigration rather than hide behind the pathetic hand-wringing we have seen from her useless predecessors. I hope she is brave enough to actually change the law to allow her to remove more of these individuals faster.

LadyWithLapdog · 23/05/2021 22:35

No she’s not good. She’s evil and corrupt.
