Girl pushed under train.

Thelnebriati · 10/05/2021 22:50

The girls all have to run past the boys to board the train.
One girl is kicked in the face, spat on, shoved, tripped up, and ends up falling on to the tracks.

The guard in they hi vis yellow jacket just watches.

I'm at the end of my tether with male violence and entitlement.

Oh I'm not planning to use irish slang, it would probably sound really silly and trying too hard! Just nice to learn and understand though...

Mamette · 12/05/2021 08:09

Of course Smile

NewlyGranny · 12/05/2021 08:12

Let us never forget, either, that women and girls like these young students (probably) are castigated for rejecting the advances of young men like these and are held responsible for turning them into 'incels'.

Why can't the girls just be kinder? 🙄

I am trembling for my granddaughter, still in single figures but launched on puberty...

Inastatus · 12/05/2021 08:15

Where is the petition to sign please? I can’t find the Petition’s Board.

Ladybirdkiss · 12/05/2021 08:38

If you type into google Jason Delaney change org , should be top entry

Inastatus · 12/05/2021 08:52

Thanks @Ladybirdkiss 👍

What is it with this petition? The guy played with the youth team. That's all. He isnt signed to the club. Doesnt have a contract with them. Doesnt play with them anymore.

Why did the club release a statement then? Hmm there's some friends of his on twitter desperately trying to make it look like he doesn't play there anymore. Doesn't make sense really. A football club can't be gaslighted.
Brokenpencilsarepointless · 12/05/2021 09:32

Pretty sure they released a statement because any business whose name was dragged into this would have released a statement.

Their statement didnt mention him or his club position or contract. All they said was they oppose violence against women etc.

Until someone comes out and shows a contract he has with that club then people need to calm down. He played for their youth team. My kids play on a youth team. They arent signed to the club.

Ladybirdkiss · 12/05/2021 09:37

Why didn’t the football team just deny he was signed to them then? It doesn’t make sense for them to do an investigation if he’s not even there. That would be the simplest statement from them
@Straussful thanks for teaching me a new word, gurrier. I have not been in Ireland long and am trying to learn the slang!
Playing truant in Dublin used to be ' going on the gur'. There is a cheap sort of bread pudding called Gur cake. Presumably this was all the 'gurriers' could afford. But whether the name originates with the cake or the truants I couldn't say. Chicken and 🥚🐣!

Mamette · 12/05/2021 10:04

@Abhannmor I’ve heard that the name Gur cake comes from “gutter” cake because it’s made from the sweepings of other cakes all mashed together 😂

Don’t know whether that’s true or not.

This is a beautifully written, poignant article about the effect this video has had on us here.

For all the posters who are saying "that's Dublin for you" and "I'll never visit because of this" - Roisin expresses the reaction of most of us who live here, who call Dublin home. Who love this city and are wondering how we can save it.

I live in an amazing place, but I realise not everyone is as lucky. And, in the same way as I lend a voice to those who have no voice in other campaigns, I think we need to stand up and be counted now. We need to make this our "no more" moment, where we take to the streets to say to our government - no, we will not tolerate this violence anymore - what are you doing to keep our streets safe for our children?

Sounds about right. Gurrier is old school anyway. These lads are 'scobes' or ' skangers' now according to my DSs.Confused

Abhannmor · 12/05/2021 10:27

Good post Annasgirl. A previous poster mentioned the guy who sorted out this problem in Glasgow. The Gardai could do worse than seek his advice.

And I'm sure you're wrong. If he wasn't there the football clubs statement would be that the Individual is not employed there, not that they are going to investigate and deal with it properly and fairly.

Is there a reason you think he doesn't play for them? Is it just because someone on twitter said so?

Brokenpencilsarepointless · 12/05/2021 11:10

@Horehound

How about, because his name isnt listed on any of their teams?
He played football for them in the youth team, which parents pay a membership for. He hasnt been signed to their under 19s or their men's team.

If I were that football club, I wouldn't issue any statement in regards to his position until I had checked exactly how many matches he played in, whether or not his membership was still active, whether or not he had been approached to be signed to the team etc.

Why are you so worried about the club?
They are grown ups, and can look after themselves surely?

Miasicarisatia · 12/05/2021 13:49

NOT ONE of the boys stop and try to help pull the girl out
It would be considered an act of disloyalty to the perpetrator and they are afraid to defy him?

Brokenpencilsarepointless · 12/05/2021 13:59

@Harriedharriet

I'm not worried about a football club. I'm fed up of the misrepresentations, conspiracies and insinuation which run wild on mumsnet. Already today another thread was deleted because of the wild speculation about someone's murder.

I see your point in general but not in this case.

There is no conspiracy, misrepresentation or insinuation - there video is very clear.

The club can say Yeah or Nay. It is a side bar.

AnCatDubh · 12/05/2021 16:42

This is so disturbing. Those poor girls. The idea that they are used to just putting their heads down and trying to run that gauntlet is awful.

It's interesting to read the different perspectives on how young men are getting to this point. I grew up around boys that had part time/ summer work from their early teens, physical jobs that left them tired and taught them skills. They were around older men who taught them what was and wasn't acceptable behaviour. They made mistakes, got pulled up on it, developed pride in their abilities, knew they were valued for their efforts, made friendships across generations that have lasted and were definitely taught and expected to respect women. Not saints by any means but never violent.

Is that available to many teenagers now? Seems like they have everything they could want and no sense of purpose or sense of belonging to a community that they contribute to. So they cause chaos with little consequence.

Where does that leave our girls? When I watch the news, I feel as though my daughters' worlds are shrinking daily.

NewlyGranny · 12/05/2021 17:30

The petition can't do any harm, can it? If the young man isn't in fact signed to the club, the petition means he will probably never be, even when the furore over his actions dies down.

Moreover, it makes him practically unsignable to any club.

There need to be consequences to actions like this. One of the first things I taught my children was that people are not for hitting/kicking etc. Either he wasn't taught this or he doesn't consider young women to be people...

NewlyGranny · 12/05/2021 17:34

Notice how it was the other young women who were first to try to rescue the victim, who may have been their friend, and the serial tripper and the kicker scarpered while the serial spitter just looked on with his hands to his head in shock, doing nothing helpful, though his physical strength could have been useful in the rescue.
