Shout out to my fellow lesbians on this important week!

I will be wearing my lesbian pride badge right next to my trans pride badge for the whole week in all public spaces.

I for one think this is very useful visibility.

Whythesadface · 29/04/2021 10:54

Autocorrect strikes again .
Of the 108 billion ish humans who have ever walked this earth, I recon 107.9 Billion of them knew the difference between a male and a female.
You can add outer clothing , get surgery, but can only be a lesbian if you were born female. I support SSL. The only way it can be.

Shizuku · 29/04/2021 10:55

@Helleofabore

Then you don't think that trans men transitioning erases lesbians

No. I don't, but I am very happy for the females (those who have bodies formed around the production of large gametes, regardless of whether they do produce large gametes or not) who are same sex attracted to confirm this or not.

They after all have also been the ones who have fought for decades upon decades to be able to actually use that word for themselves. Might I say, usually with the majority of the discrimination coming from males (those with bodies formed around the production of small gametes, however they identify).

Have you considered that there might be more to your fellow humans than the gametes they produce?

Incidentally, if your body developed in such a way that it is unable to produce large gametes, then it didn't form around the production of large gametes.

But let's not kill the atmos - it's lesbian visibility week - let's celebrate lesbians together.

Most of the people who have ever lived (about 107 billion) thought the world was flat. Science tells us the world is a little different to what we may think we perceive.

" but can only be a lesbian if you were born female."

That's OK - I was born female.

Legal fiction does not change material reality. People may be allowed to change a male sex marker to a female gender marker in some misguided notion of treating dysphoria - it doesn't literally make them female.

C'mon, this stuff isn't hard. It's an offensive legal simile - a man with gender dysphoria is like a woman. Not that he is literally female. 'Cos he's not.

Biological males, regardless of their 'transition', if married to a biological woman, are in a heterosexual relationship.

Be straight, be trans, be proud. But stop gas lighting lesbians.

Helleofabore · 29/04/2021 10:58

We have the same definition - high five!.

No. You don't have the same definition. It would be very misguided of you to go into a medical situation and state that, wouldn't it? Do you answer honestly or do you lie?

PigeonPants · 29/04/2021 10:59

ASugarr: Woo! It's been a fabulous week filled with lots of information and education around being a woman loving woman. I've got my lesbian pride sticker next to my trans pride ones too! Hope you have an incredible week 🤍

But you have previously said you are bisexual. No shade on that, I'm a lesbian and my partner is bi, but can you really not understand that lesbian visibility day is specifically for lesbians? Do you not understand how it is different to grow up attracted to both sexes versus being a girl/woman who is same-sex attracted only, in the context of toxic patriarchy? Can you not understand how lesbians - rejecting all of the sexual and romantic ties that pull us toward men, and embracing the sexual and romantic ties that pull us toward women, have a specific and non-dominant story to tell?

Can you really not let lesbians have this one day? Why not? What are you afraid of?

Ah - so it begins - we have "offensive" and "gaslighting" - soon we will move on to abusive.

That may be your opinion but others do not agree and the fact is trans women are women and can be lesbians so let them be

Not when it causes harm to females. No, I disagree and I don't think we should 'let them be'.

yourhairiswinterfire · 29/04/2021 11:02

Not when it causes harm to females

Saw some really sad accounts from young lesbians who have been traumatised and made to feel 'wrong' for not liking penis, because that's what they've been told they should, as lesbians, like.

One of them describes feeling like she had to 'fix herself' by sleeping with men. Another felt she had to prove she was a 'good lesbian, not a t*rf'.

Another example of what lesbians have to put up with for the 'crime' of being same sex attracted.

Depends on the situation. When I had my mammogram recently (yes - it was an all female clinic) I asked the nurse to add that I am trans to my notes, just in case I had a different balance to fat to glandular tissue than average. Turn out I don't but it was worth mentioning I thought.

This thread has certainly brought some visibility.

BlackWaveComing · 29/04/2021 11:06

Goodness, OP. You're a lesbian as much as I'm Beyonce. Only the very credulous believe such claims.

BlackWaveComing · 29/04/2021 11:08

All humans have breast tissue. Having breast tissue is neither a sign of being female or of being a lesbian. HTH.

Good to get screened though - males do sometimes get breast cancer.

That's why this discussion is really important because there are transgender lesbians out there, however the transphobia in the UK causes a lot of misinformation on genital preference and consent. This is something many people working in sexual health are trying to tackle. And should be discussed more to be solved.

DdraigGoch · 29/04/2021 11:11

We have the same definition - high five!

female
/ˈfiːmeɪl/
adjective
of or denoting the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs, distinguished biologically by the production of gametes (ova) which can be fertilized by male gametes.

Whythesadface · 29/04/2021 11:14

If the Lesbian section leave the Pride banner, and if this continues it will happen, and woman join their sisterhood , and we call our selves Eve..ers. as in , as Eve was as she stood naked in the garden of Eden.
Willing to take a DNA test to prove me can join this group.
Will that be enough to show you that there is a difference.
People try to twist Born female, to say it is in the mind, but DNA proves it all...

PigeonPants · 29/04/2021 11:15

So, ASugarr, you don't know - but you are going to scream and yell your lesbophobic and misogynist shite on Lesbian Visibility Day reagrdless, yeah?

Nothing I'm saying is lesbophobic or misogynistic.
BlackWaveComing · 29/04/2021 11:18

I give up. Apparently it's Lesbophobia Central for Lesbian Visibility Week. Trust the bio-males to push to the front. Can't let lesbians have the spotlight, now!

yourhairiswinterfire · 29/04/2021 11:19

however the transphobia in the UK causes a lot of misinformation on genital preference and consent

By ''genital preference'', do you mean sexual orientation? Hmm

Sexual orientation is not a ''preference''. Liking tea over coffee is a preference. If there's no tea, I'll gladly settle for a coffee. I'm straight, so no penis means I'm not settling for a vagina.

Calling sexual orientation a genital preference is homophobic.

No they are both different.

You mean all the lesbians who accept trans women as women are just silly fools who don't know their own minds? I guess they've heard that before somewhere.

This is it exactly. Anyone who denies that harm is happening to lesbians cannot acknowledge that this is happening and the reason it is happening.

I am seeing the effects of this on my teen and their friends. Every. Single. Day.

Come on - no one is creaming and yelling anything. You don't do your case any favours with this sort of hyperbole.
