Knew this would happen, had to turn down job

I'm furious, have been out of work for a while. Was offered a temporary contract writing and implementating policy for a public sector organisation. Just up my street and would really have helped us out. Turns out they're Stonewall champions and are full on TWAW and have all rights to anything they want. I asked to review some of their current policies and it's all cisgender crap and lists of stuff we must and mustn't do to make all Trans people safe. We'll I've obviously had to turn down the role and worse I told the recruiter why so will probably never get a job through them now. There are companies out there that haven't bought into all this crap aren't there?

Ahh you're so sweet

😂

Leafstamp · 22/04/2021 16:26

OP, hypothetically, and playing devil's advocate, why didn't you take the job and then challenge the policies once you were in post?

I did consider this too but if I'm honest I'm this organisation it wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference, I'd just have been let go. You've got to pick your battles and I wouldn't have won this one. The organisation is too large and the rot too deep from what I've seen 😞😞

This is one benefit to being unambitious with regards to career. It's one thing to work for an organisation with poorly written or even unjust or illegal policies in a lower level role where you may be subject to them.

It's another to be a person who will have to screw over others by enforcing them.

tuttifuckinfruity · 22/04/2021 16:35

You've dodged a bullet.

A better job will be along shortly.

🍷 💐

Ah, sorry to hear this. You do need to pick your battles and also consider your own well being. Sounds like you've made the right choice, but really disappointing.

RunHobbitRun · 22/04/2021 16:40

Whilst principles don't pay the bills I agree Trixie that I couldn't be the woman to tell another woman she not only has no recourse about single sex spaces in the workplace but that she'll have to undertake mandatory brainwashing training so that she doesn't upset Frank in IT who likes to wear dresses and use the ladies facilities.

Hope something more suitable shows up soon.

mollythemeerkat · 22/04/2021 16:45

Having to teach others and sign them up to an ideology I didnt believe in would break me up. With you all the way on this one and hope you find something better. Good luck.

PotholeHellhole · 22/04/2021 17:07

Stormfront?

How completely and utterly unthinkingly racist, to use a reference to a notorious white supremacist website against a parenting site.

Looks to me like Owain is white and appropriating the work of anti-racism campaigners.

Shameful.

And oh look, he's a Green party activist and followed by one of the current co-leaders of the English and Welsh Green Party. Wonder if she's going to bother dissociating herself from him tout suite. Don't expect so. Not the kind of racism that it's fashionable to care about.

Trixie78 · 22/04/2021 17:09

Haha I'm famous! At least 10 people will read that drivel I'm sure. What I really want to know is......how do they know I'm drinking prosecco am I being watched 🤣🤣🤣

meh. Some non-entities on another platform overly invested in suppressing discussion.

Erkrie · 22/04/2021 17:10

As many as ten do you think?
Fame indeed!

Trixie78 · 22/04/2021 17:11

I can't even get upset at being called a racist and a homophobe, I just can't as anyone who knows me knows it's the most ridiculous claim. Jog on babies the grown ups are discussing grown up things!

Erkrie · 22/04/2021 17:11

Very true hellofabore.

Erkrie · 22/04/2021 17:12

The more they misuse words, the less meaning they hold.

PotholeHellhole · 22/04/2021 17:15

I don't think the opinions of anyone who calls this site "Prosecco Stormfront" are worth very much.

We had a TRA join under that name. The first thing they did, was to post on a thread in the...

Black Mumsnetters topic

before hotfooting it to FWR.

Says it all, doesn't it? Microaggression? More like macroaggression.

highame · 22/04/2021 17:17

Trixie78 the babies have to be given space to make themselves heard otherwise they get very hot and very very cross. Here's a top up Wine

Erkrie · 22/04/2021 17:18

I prefer beer myself.
🍻 Cheers.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 22/04/2021 17:20

Sad wankers Grin

Onwards and upwards Trixie, a prosecco emoji for you! 🥂

CatChant · 22/04/2021 17:21

That's really rotten luck, OP. I hope something much better comes along soon.

I think you were right and not only in principle; in your shoes I know I'd have ended up saying or doing something seen as utterly heretical and got myself the push sooner or later.

pigeonontheroofagain · 22/04/2021 17:27

I'm sorry Trixie well done for standing up for yourself. I'm in a position recently being new to a role and realising I was supposed to do the twaw thing. I am too new to the sector to stand up for myself

Lordamighty · 22/04/2021 17:31

Owain Sutton typifies everything that’s wrong about the Greens.

Katypyee · 22/04/2021 17:32

Oh look, more transphobia again. I fail to understand as a fellow human being why you would not want to ensure trans people are safe.
