Knew this would happen, had to turn down job

I'm furious, have been out of work for a while. Was offered a temporary contract writing and implementating policy for a public sector organisation. Just up my street and would really have helped us out. Turns out they're Stonewall champions and are full on TWAW and have all rights to anything they want. I asked to review some of their current policies and it's all cisgender crap and lists of stuff we must and mustn't do to make all Trans people safe. We'll I've obviously had to turn down the role and worse I told the recruiter why so will probably never get a job through them now. There are companies out there that haven't bought into all this crap aren't there?

I work with teens and young adults. I have come across young adults who do actually believe it's possible to actually change sex, and all that goes with that. They don't understand their bodies properly and what they are, and are not, capable of.

LostToucan · 22/04/2021 20:34

Good luck next week - onwards and upwards.

Erkrie · 22/04/2021 20:35

Thank you to all those who understand why I turned the role down and have sent your support

All the best with the job hunt. 👍

Butwasitherdriveway · 22/04/2021 20:43

@Trixie78

Crickey the conversation moved on a bit while I got the kids sorted out. I had a lovely couple glasses of wine thank you and set up an interview for next week (in a very different organisation).

Thank you to all those who understand why I turned the role down and have sent your support 🍷 X

I did ask why you turned it down other than the stonewall and TWAW and 'cisgender crap' (weirdly enough thar word usually honours a strike on MN ) but nobody seemed keen to expand so I'm not sure how anyone is supposed to understand.

PheasantPlucker1 · 22/04/2021 20:53

Driveway are you claiming Im a liar, or the kid who asked me to say pregnant people was lying?

Although its nice you acknowledge changing sex is not possible and males can never be women.

OP good luck with the interview!

CuntAmongstThePigeons · 22/04/2021 20:59

I'm sorry if the thread has moved on now, but it's absolutely mind boggling reading driveways posts. The OP is so clear, I don't understand what you don't understand. Its the most circular, odd conversation ever.

WarOnWomen · 22/04/2021 20:59

OP, I applaud you for your moral stance. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

And you're right, there are plenty of people who wouldn't be able to say no because of financial constraints.

Oh, and good luck with your job hunt.

CuntAmongstThePigeons · 22/04/2021 21:00

Oh sorry OP, I was so distracted by that bizarre exchange I forgot to say good luck!!! Good luck and well done for sticking to your morals.

You don't appear to understand in what circumstances the use of that word is considered inflammatory. It is when it is used to label someone personally with this label that they strongly disagree with. In a similar way, some terms which might be considered useful for feminist women here are also liable to be deleted.

Theunamedcat · 22/04/2021 21:02

@ASugarr

If that is their policy then that's their policy. Human rights are important in most companies to uphold. Good luck looking elsewhere.
Policy's should comply with the law

The first pages were hilarious though, right? Best to ignore the last five pages.

I think I explained it well enough in my previous posts. I was quite angry and agree I could have worded it better but others on this thread had no trouble understanding my concerns and have explained it to you better than I did so I'm unsure what you're really asking.

This organisation had the same policies all other SW champions have (they're probably all written by the same person). TWAW and are to be treated as such in ALL situations, anyone who's uncomfortable with that should be shot (exaggerated there a bit).

I wouldn't worry about it, Trixie.

DodoPatrol · 22/04/2021 21:20

@Erkrie

I was gobsmacked that two bright 15yr olds genuinely believed that humans could change sex.

I have seen evidence of this with young adults. It's quite a worry.

Yes, mine thought that too. She’s honestly quite bright really. Think she’d got mixed up somewhere between the vague discussion of gene editing and the awkward language about people ‘transitioning to female’ and assumed that science could somehow really do it.

We forget that we’re looking at this from a place of knowing the facts before someone got in there with the confusing language.

I was told very firmly, by two women who have had 9 children between them, that hormones change the chromosomes and men can become women.

I wish I was exaggerating or making it up.

PiglingBlandIII · 22/04/2021 21:27

and good luck with the interview next week op - I totally agree with your stance - I can imagine it would feel terrible to knowingly be writing women's legal rights out of the documentation.

It will take years to rectify all these policies and the unlawful misinformation from Stonewall etc - the government really needs to get a grip of this and start forcing the public service organisations to start rolling this back.

As I think is obvious, I'm asking what these policies are.

Nobody has explained those to me

Of course some people agree with you. They see the words TWAW and it doesn't matter anything else. But that's not how it should be.

Frankly, a good number of people, even in countries like ours with free primary and secondary education, come out of their compulsory science lessons in year 11, having recalled and understood the square root of fuck all.

Do you remember Gillian McKeith telling people that they should eat leafy greens because the chlorophyll in them would oxygenate the blood?

I remember trying to walk someone through the steps of primary school level photosynthesis so I could get her to make the connection between photosynthesis being something plant leaves do in sunlight and it being dark inside one's blood vessels.

They don't actually know what DNA is, beyond parroting the words.

Scepticaltank · 22/04/2021 21:31

I had a conversation with my two DSs , 23 and 25 about why women are defending the legal Equality Act 2010 sex exemptions against a push to change sex exemptions to a gender identity choice. I asked them exactly how they considered a male to be female.

My youngest's eyes lit up, he had an answer, he had read it on the internet. He started to explain to me that there are male brains and female brains and sometimes they are in the wrong body. I saw his eyes change as he realised he was talking shite to his mother who he clearly does not consider a lady brain kind of person.

It was quite funny.

Don't read it then.

Just read the first few pages of echo chamber and do a happy dance.
