Genital Inspections

The Florida House passed a bill on April 14, 2021, that would ban trans girls and women from playing on high school and collegiate teams. It would also allow schools to require a genital inspection of student athletes suspected of being trans.

This is child sexual abuse. I hope this never ends up happening in the UK. Trans girls and women deserve to play in women's sports. Trans boys and men deserve to play in men's sports. Period.

Cheek swab. Not genital inspections.
If birth certificate, hcp declaration etc are not enough, all that is needed is a cheek swab. Just to be clear of the lies the transactivists tell.

LastRoloIsMine · 18/04/2021 06:59

I don't know about all sports so I am unsure of this. But as a woman who has constantly played sports against male competitors and have won against them I don't see the need for every sport to be sexual segregated.

Which sports?

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 18/04/2021 06:59

Oh and I can still beat both my 16 and 14 year old sons in arm wrestling matches. Doesn't mean that men aren't bigger and stronger than women on average.

ASugarr · 18/04/2021 07:00

@Wigglegiggle0520

OP, If a consensual genital exam on a child to determine which sports team they play on is child abuse, how do you feel about and how would you describe prescribing puberty blockers to a child?
A genital exam shouldn't be required. And if they've seen a doctor and gone through the full procedure then yes because that's a medical need.

Dressage and show jumping. Because there the physical differences between men and women don't matter.

But not football, rugby, tennis, swimming, hockey, cycling, volleyball, to name a few. The ones transwomen happen to 'excel' in.

IHateCoronavirus · 18/04/2021 07:01

If you are against sexual segregation in sport why the big deal about trans women playing on women’s teams and trans men playing on men’s teams? Surely by saying that you are supporting their segregation onto a team based on perceived sex.

I understand that however the article states a "physical examination" not a cheek swab.

Actually following Asugarr's reasoning, all teams should be mixed sex and transwomen and women should play on the mens.

justawoman · 18/04/2021 07:02

How is asking a child to produce their birth certificate or do a saliva test for chromosomes any more invasive than asking them to provide medical proof that they are undergoing treatment (eg puberty blockers) because they are transgender?

ASugarr · 18/04/2021 07:02

Can you give specific examples that trans women have excelled in all of these sports?

Name some more. Also...croquet?

Leafstamp · 18/04/2021 07:03

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

Examples, please, of competitive sports where women play or compete on equal terms with men and win half the time.
I’d like to see these examples too.
justawoman · 18/04/2021 07:03

Women can be competitive against men in darts, showjumping, and snooker, to name three sports where speed and strength don’t matter. They can’t in anything where it does.

AnyOldPrion · 18/04/2021 07:04

Sports is already bias on physical ability anyway. Like how only tall people end up doing professional basketball (because obviously it gives them an advantage). Is their biological advantage unfair?

Serena Williams could beat an unfit man who is poor at tennis, therefore as she can beat some men, we should do away with sex segregation. Is that your argument?

And since you mentioned basketball, I thought an image would be appropriate. Why do you think one of the players in this image managed to make it onto the team despite being twice the age of all the young women?

Firstly, this can happen to any child they suspect so this isn't to just target transgender children. Secondly they said physical exam meaning this could mean a genital examination which isn't acceptable.

LastRoloIsMine · 18/04/2021 07:05

If sex segregation is not necessary in sport why do transpeople want to play/compete in teams opposite of their sex? What difference would it make?

justawoman · 18/04/2021 07:05

The best estimate is that Serena Williams would lose against any man in the men’s top 200.

This really reminds me of the argument used by republicans when they argued Obamacare would lead to “Death Panels”. Same playbook.

First comment doesn't make sense to the argument I made. That second one seems more to do with age which I don't know the context of the situation.

Venus andSerena Williamshad claimed that they couldbeatanymaleplayer ranked outside the world's top 200, so Braasch, then ranked 203rd, challenged them both. ... He first took onSerenaand after leading 5–0,beather 6–1. Venus then walked on court and again Braasch was victorious, this time winning 6–2.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 18/04/2021 07:08

Not quite the same as competing, but 100% of the boys I grew up dancing with went to on to have professional dance careers. That's 4 men ftr.

It's less than 1% of the girls (1 girl out of over 100) who achieved the same. With a handful more going on to become dance teachers.

Girls do not achieve at the same rate as men in many many sports.

justawoman · 18/04/2021 07:08

Well, I can imagine circumstances in which asking a child to prove their age could require a ‘physical examination’ (eg, asylum seekers arriving in this country claiming to be children), and this could conceivably involve a genital examination, so...

What’s your point? You’ve glommed onto a misreading of the intended law by people with an axe to grind, and it’s dishonest to keep arguing that the law will force transgendered children to have genital exams, as even a cursory reading of it shows.

ASugarr · 18/04/2021 07:09

Not all trans men and women do. Actually there are many who are okay with competing as their biological sex. However for those who aren't comfortable doing that I don't think they should be forced to.

Not convinced about snooker. Has there been a sudden surge in women’s champions? And given the enormous size of the table, isn’t it likely that having longer arms and perhaps greater height offers an advantage?
