"I'm going to dump a whole tub of period diarrhea on them"

Charming tweet Hmm

I mean, how far is this going to have to go to appease; are we going to have to redefine biological functions to suit? Arrrgggh Gin

I posted this in feminist poetry thread but feel y'all should hear it here.

It's so worth a listen!

Sophoclesthefox · 12/04/2021 19:16

I’m really trying not to react to bonkers shit off Twitter, because I have to remind myself that it’s not real life, and what flies on Twitter is not at all what the person in the street thinks.

Nameitychangity · 12/04/2021 19:43

Likewise with the bonkers shite on YouTube. It's obvious they monitor and delete any 'negative' (ie realistic) comments because it's all full of frothing "you go girl" and "welcome to the club" type garbage. You would think the whole world was on board with this insanity.

TheLetterZ · 12/04/2021 20:10

If trans women menstruate them don’t we now need another word for female as menstruator applies to both cis (shudder) and trans!

I am struggling to understand how can you be on your period if you are not actually bleeding (shedding uterus lining etc...)? If they take a steady amount of hormones so are they having a cycle at all?

NiceGerbil · 12/04/2021 21:59

There's loads of bonkers shit on Twitter about all sorts of topics tbh

SunsetBeetch · 13/04/2021 07:07

Unfortunately a lot of companies, organisations and politicians seem to use twitter as a barometer of public opinion. Which it absolutely isn't of course.

jul26m · 13/04/2021 15:05

@Psuedoshoes

Thanks *@Helleofabore* - I hadn't been aware of that. I guess I won't be shopping at the Body Shop any more!
Why wouldn’t you shop at the Body Shop anymore? Sorry, I’m new to feminism chat forum and don’t totally follow this thread! Just a little more info needed Smile
ArcheryAnnie · 13/04/2021 15:10
Vile. So unfeminine. The tweet was reported and doesn’t contravene twatter guidelines apparently.

And Body Shop is also into bullying JKR. twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/1269382518362509313?s=21
"Here, woman who writes about her experience of womanhood, we are sending you a book by a man, to educate you."

Body Shop can fuck right off.

Soubriquet · 13/04/2021 15:14

Easy...why would you support a shop who thinks a man can experience a period and talk about period poverty as if it was happening to him?

I adore lush, but I won’t buy from them anymore due to their TWAW ideology

ArcheryAnnie · 13/04/2021 15:17

And why would you shop from a shop that thinks it's hilarious to patronise and bully a woman for talking about her experience of womanhood?

jul26m · 13/04/2021 15:19

@ArcheryAnnie btw Paisley Currah is trans, so does have experience being a biological woman at birth but he now writes on trans issues as a trans man.

What’s TWAW? Mumsnet acronyms confuse me lol only recently realised what people mean when they refer to their relatives as D-something haha
Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/04/2021 15:21

That appalling Body Shop tweet came out at the same time JKR revealed she had suffered rape and domestic abuse.

I know that this is quite a long thread for me to post, but you might find this very useful background into the discussion.

TWAW is the anacronym for Transwomen are women.

I’ll check this out in a sec, thanks for linking! What is Lush’s stance?
Helleofabore · 13/04/2021 15:39

Lush said that a sticker that stated that prisons should be single sex was hateful if I remember correctly. Some one will come along in a minute I am sure.

They also stated anyone wearing a t-shirt stating women= Adult Human Females would be asked to leave too. Again, my memory is a bit faulty this week.

334bu · 13/04/2021 15:40

As transwomen athletes are now " trans female athletes" according to CNN I think we can assume that some transwomen might really believe they have changed sex and are therefore experiencing psychosomatic symptoms? Unfortunately their male bodies can't mimic all the correct symptoms because the proper bits aren't there.

Not sure about 1 but 2 was in an Edinburgh branch wasn’t it? They also has signs up in some of their branches ‘no Covid, homophobes... etc’ (can’t remember the rest but it was on trend)
Helleofabore · 13/04/2021 15:57

toffeebutterpopcorn You could be right. The stickers might have been after the signs etc. or might have been Body Shop.

jul26m

this might help. Either way, Advance Search is your friend.

Which would make it fine from our point of view, but presumably if the Body Shop really believe "trans men are men", then it should be a terrible no-good act of patriarchy on their part.

MeltsAway · 13/04/2021 19:42

The tweet says
The Body Shop (BS) has picked a natal male who IDs as a woman to talk about period shame in India, where 23 million girls drop out of school due to it. The person said they buy sanitary pads for 'excess vaginal discharge'. BS thanked them for raising awareness to 'menstruators'

Well, that makes it even easier to boycott the Body Shop.

Wandawomble · 15/04/2021 02:18

@Shizuku do transwomen have period diarrhoea?
