"I'm going to dump a whole tub of period diarrhea on them"

Charming tweet Hmm

I mean, how far is this going to have to go to appease; are we going to have to redefine biological functions to suit? Arrrgggh Gin

Mayorquimby2 - I was going to say that they didn’t say ‘blood’. Was this the person who said that periods made them cry on zoom meetings?

AfternoonToffee · 11/04/2021 12:13

Have I been womanning all wrong? Am I supposed to have period diarrhea?

toffeebutterpopcorn · 11/04/2021 12:14

I get diarrhoea of I drink too much coffee.

justawoman · 11/04/2021 12:16

Personally I always get constipated just before and around the time I start bleeding. I’m clearly womaning wrong. Again.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 11/04/2021 12:18

I get pimples too.

Spots, cramps, bloating, diarrhoea, constipation, mood swings, and the bleeding... what’s there not to aspire to?

justawoman · 11/04/2021 12:19

Don’t forget the headaches. Crushing hormonal migraines that set in and make me feel sick and in pain for days. Great fun.

GooodMythicalMorning · 11/04/2021 12:22

I don't understand the world anymore.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 11/04/2021 12:25

It’s not even glamorous... the worlds gorn mad o tell you!

The fake pregnancy photo was what did it for me (I think). Some male ‘social media celeb’ - at least his belly wasn’t hairy.

EastWestWhosBest · 11/04/2021 12:29

Anyway, I've seen claims on Twitter that the important thing about having periods is having your oestrogen levels going up and down and affecting mood, causing cramps and a craving for chocolate etc.

Here is an interesting thing I learned this week. There is nothing about being female that makes you like chocolate more. It’s not a biological thing. It’s marketing and nothing else. The whole thing with women and chocolate is social conditioning.

allaboutthecrisps · 11/04/2021 12:35

I think they don't really understand the challenges re: periods. For many of us it's containing the blood. The skin issues, mood, fatigue, pain etc. are not issues specific to periods they are hormonal issues but not period. I think this just shows that they don't understand the challenges that biological females face which suggests that self-identification as a biological female is a significant problem as it silences women's experiences.

Helleofabore · 11/04/2021 12:39

allaboutthecrisps

Sadly. I don’t think whether they understand or not matters at all to them or their allies.

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 11/04/2021 13:00

Huh. I don't have periods so I guess that's why I'm more or less indifferent to chocolate.

MichelleofzeResistance · 11/04/2021 13:07

No. Not indulging this kind of silliness.

The quote of Dr Hayton's comes to mind, about your responsibilities should you want to be taken seriously.

DIshedUp · 11/04/2021 13:10

Tbf I read this at first as 'if one more person states the bleeding obvious I will scream' style tweet, not that they had periods. As clearly no TW has a period

Is period diarrhea a thing? Am I supposed to have monthly diarrhea.

Some women have bloody awful periods, some women have very minor periods. Some women have cramps, some have headaches, some have bowel symptoms, some feel irritable. The only thing that all women do on their periods is bleed.

All this fantasising tw do about their hideous period symptoms is pretty distasteful. To me its like fantasising you have an illness, you don't pretend you have something that causes someone else distress

DIshedUp · 11/04/2021 13:17

I want to say to these TW actually all my period is is just a minor convenience these days. Its just 5 days a month where I have to carry tampons on me.
There's no dressing gown, or pint of ice cream or excess chocolate. Theres no crying in bed.

Not to detract from women who have bad periods, but for a lot of women their period is really nothing special, life just carries on as normal.

TW who say they have periods really fantasise about the other symptoms, their hormonal cycle. As if there's something really special and exciting about a woman on her period.

TwoBreakingIntoOne · 11/04/2021 13:22

Periods are watching soppy films whilst being wrapped in a duvet, eating chocolate and shedding lady tears
I've never had a period like that, obviously I am not a woman. I had the bloody type that had to be managed along with the usual daily tasks

Makingnumber2 · 11/04/2021 13:26

This article seems to suggest that TW on HRT experience cyclical PMS symptoms. Obviously they don't bleed though so they get symptoms but they don't get periods.

MichelleofzeResistance · 11/04/2021 13:35

TW on hormone therapy getting cyclical symptoms is an experience of hormone therapy specific to TW. No female person has a clue what that feels like, or should be appropriating that. A period is the monthly shedding of the uterine lining and happens only to biologically female people.

NewlyGranny · 11/04/2021 13:49

Anyone who ever had real periods is not going to go musty eyed about then, tbh. As an older woman, I love being free of them - it's like being a little girl again. Or a "natal male" of any age, I guess.

All the talk of cramps (experienced where, exactly?) sounds a bit performative and attention-seeking. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I suppose it does nobody any harm, but it's not a valid qualification for lecturing the world on periods. I've yet to hear a transman publicising their prostate problems...

CaesarsDream · 11/04/2021 13:52

This is exactly the sort of MN thread that should feature in the national news. Not just because the subject of the OP is absurd, this appears to be the widespread attitude and 'feeling/belief' of the TRAs seen on SM platforms.

CaesarsDream · 11/04/2021 13:54

I welcome any TW, HRT or not, to stay with me for a week to fully witness my monthly experience of menstruation. It ain't pretty folks!

titchy · 11/04/2021 13:57

Yeah. They don't. For one they get the same dosage each and every day, so there is no cycle. I suspect if there are any symptoms, they're psychological. Or made up.

andyoldlabour · 11/04/2021 13:57

This seems to be the Twitter feed with replies. Every time I think that things cannot get more unhinged, I am proven wrong.

There's a poet called Hollie McNish who was writing about "period diahorrea" recently and I wonder if that was picked up on/seized upon as in "if we say we have this then we show we KNOW":

However, I actually just came on to say when I see stuff like this on the feminism board, where I don't usually hang out, I just think it really should be in AIBU or Chat so that everyone can gain an understanding of what is happening (e.g., Body Shop actions explained earlier in the thread are just shameful Sad )

TammySwansonTwo · 11/04/2021 14:03

I got into a Facebook row about this the other day. You missed out a few tweets before this about crying in work meetings due to said periods.

If you receive a consistent dose of hormones daily you do not have a cycle. You also don’t have the variety of other hormones that women have involved in their cycles.

I am very tired of this, as someone whose life has been completely ruined by my stupid fucking menstrual cycles.
