"I'm going to dump a whole tub of period diarrhea on them"

Charming tweet Hmm

I mean, how far is this going to have to go to appease; are we going to have to redefine biological functions to suit? Arrrgggh Gin

@titchy and @Mugginyouleftrightandcentre I have never been on HRT so no idea what that treatment actually consists of or what side effects it could cause. I just had never ever heard anyone say TW could have period like symptoms so did a google and found that article.
Could very well be totally psychological.
Who knows.
TW clearly do not get periods or PMS though- I would be open to accepting they may experience unpleasant side effects as the result of ongoing HRT of which some symptoms may be similar to PMS. I worked with a woman on HRT who suffered with horrible hot flushes- I get hot flushes at night a few days before and also during my period. So I think it's possible HRT could cause some of the same things PMS does.

Too many could leads... a bit groggy here after an afternoon nap...

When we were students there was a single mum on the course - scraped every penny to supper herself and her child whilst she studied.

I remember another student on the course (incredibly wealthy family, dad bought her a flat in the city - nice woman but oh!) going on about her Burberry raincoat needing dry cleaning (this was whey they were quite ‘posh’) and the fact that she only had a £600 budget from dad to spend on a dress for a ball - this was in the 80s so but exactly a small amount.

@DIshedUp you've hit the nail on the head there. It's like some kind of fantasy they want all there groupies to indulge. Anybody who speaks out will obviously be hit with a barrage of insults.

I've also seen a thread where a TW is fantasising about the day "the first TW has an abortion". Not birthing a child or possessing a functioning womb, but having an abortion. To be clear - I have nothing against abortion whatsoever, but it seems a really odd thing to glamorise.

@EastWestWhosBest

And what about transmen who do have periods. How does this make them feel?
Quite. But like many things, the female born are disadvantaged. So many seem to proclaim that it's fine for TW to compete in women's sports even though they're at an advantage, but then TM don't get any concessions made for them when they're at an obvious disadvantage in male sports.

Women and girls in some communities are banished to period huts. Some, even in progressive families, are not allowed to cook or touch people as they are considered as unhygienic and unclean.

Yes, my friend who grew up in India wasn’t allowed in the kitchen when she had her period. This was an educated wealthy family. They would have a cool come in when her mum had her period.

Yes, a friend's MIL came from India for a visit and was shocked that her DIL cooked for husband even when she was on.

Don't forget also that women cannot participate in religious life during their periods; no praying at the shrine at home nor going to the temple for the first few days. My friend still abides by this rule.

Eating ice cream, getting cramps and diarrhoea is suggestive of a dairy intolerance. Not a period.

Redcrayons · 11/04/2021 20:38

I don’t think I’ve ever spent the day Under the duvet, feeling sad and eating ice cream. If only. I’m too busy going to work and getting on with stuff, up to my eyeballs on co-codamol.

Period diarrhoea is a thing for me. I’m really constipated beforehand so all hell breaks loose on my first day.

I can understand the clothes, hair, make up and all that sort of ‘womanning’. Who tf wants periods? Shows a spectacular lack of understanding.

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

I know nothing about the way oestrogen is prescribed for TW. For all I know, they don't get a standard dose for every day of the week. Maybe they get a high dose on some days, low on others, which would be a bit like us. Do they get progesterone at all?

Anyway, I've seen claims on Twitter that the important thing about having periods is having your oestrogen levels going up and down and affecting mood, causing cramps and a craving for chocolate etc. Any attempt to point out that a period is only a period if it involves the uterus expelling its lining at the start of a new menstrual cycle, ie no blood, no period, is just batted away. The bleeding is not a trivial detail, but these numpties and their cheerleaders won't have that.

There was a TW a few years ago now who was claiming that they suffered with “periods that were only missing one thing” ie the blood, the actual menstrating and that once a month they had to take to their bed with cramps. That’s how you know they’re not a real women, we don’t have the chance to take to our beds once a month!!

Here's the full thread with the "emotional in Zoom" meetings bit too.

I get the worst period diarrhoea every god damn month. It is a thing. I went to the doctors, because I spend 5 days every month in a state, to see if something was wrong with me.

I don’t know if it’s common but it’s definitely a thing.

I however don’t crave chocolate or feel sad just spend 5 days with my arse glued to a toilet. Grim Sad periods are so different for every woman how can they be sort of standardised to feeling sad, craving chocolate, having cramps. Most people I know breeze through theirs no issues.

Kenshi · 11/04/2021 21:21

Hormonally it's common to be constipated before the period begins and then to have looser bowel movements once it's started. Another reason is in women with endometriosis and also women who don't have endometriosis but have what they call retrograde menstruation (where you bleed partially into your pelvic cavity, estimated to be up to 80% of women), their bowels can be irritated by the beeding and cause such toilet issues.

I have endometriosis and not only have a hard time with menstruation but the adhesions caused by the condition mean I have some level of pelvic pain, all the time every day. All because I'm actually female. Having someone pretend to be affected by menstruation, who being honest is probably receiving better medical care for their transition than I am for my disease caused by my actual ovaries and uterus honestly leaves me lost for words.

Just seen this one on twitter now, scary stuff. The OP makes a good point - why is this level of hatred never directed towards the people committing the violence and instead towards people who don't agree with TWAW mantra?

We know why. But apparently MNHQ doesn't want us to document it (a thread full of such examples got deleted).

BraveBananaBadge · 11/04/2021 23:11

Very much hoping 'periods are more than menstruation' doesn't become the next idiot mantra...

The next time someone tells me TW don't have periods..
NiceGerbil · 11/04/2021 23:23

And hold on a sec.

I get the shits when I have my period. It is a thing that happens to some women and it's got a known cause.

I did not connect it until I was pretty old because I had no idea that was a possible thing that happened.

I have never seen anything to suggest that there's any research into helping with this symptom.

And given that loads of girls and women don't have access to proper toilet facilities etc around the world, getting the runs every month is not trivial is it.

But when does it start getting talked about? Not to do with any of that obviously. Only when male people want to co-opt female experiences.

YouNoob · 11/04/2021 23:26

Oh no, sunset, is this the it never happens thread? I wonder why now after all this time. I hope it has been archived?

No it was the screenshots thread. Not a good use of the site, apparently. I hope the OP saved all the screenshots/archived the thread.

Precisely this. It seems it gets talked about when the male-born variety experience it, henceforth it becomes the main symptom

All the ice cream crying chocolate bitchy thing really pisses me off.

Yes it can affect your mood. And men have used that against us for years. And we've fought to shake off the idea that if we show any anger etc it must be because of periods, that we're unreliable in any number of ways.

We haven't yet got to the point where we can even start bringing back the topic to say well it does happen and the world is designed by men for men so what can change to make things better for the 50% of the population who will experience periods.

But hold on. Yes being irrational etc IS what it's all about. And in fact that's more what is about than the whole shedding uterus lining part.

That's disgraceful. Body Shop can get lost . Haven't bought anything from them since they did that to JK and I loved their white musk (80s girl) and body butter .
