You don't think LGB and particularly T people who use that centre will find it at all threatening?

It may be that (L) lesbian and (B) bisexual women are the ones protesting about the centre.

Sophoclesthefox · 04/04/2021 15:25

@Erkrie

That is definitely gender critical sentiments. I agree with the sentiments, I disagree with writing it in spray paint all over a memorial. It's going to really suck for the person who has to pressure wash that off

Already done it would seem. By a couple of community spirited lads who happened to have something to clean it off in their back pocket, and the camera at the ready to post on social media. It further cemented their community mindedness when they were able to explain to passerby's who were asking what had happened, about the bad GC people who must have done this.

Jolly good show...

Amazing serendipity.

Women are basically opposing the loss of single-sex rights the UK government tried to slip past us in 2019, with proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act 2004.

Sorry, that got garbled. I meant, the women in Spain are basically opposing the same loss of single-sex rights that we in the UK had to fight in 2019. That was when the UK government tried to change the Gender Recognition Act 2004.

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/04/2021 15:43

Indeed.

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/04/2021 15:45

@Mummyoflittledragon

Indeed.
Sorry that was to the serendipity comment.

disagree with vandalism. The point could have been made by nailing something to the building or attaching it in some way.

You mean like chalk and ribbons ? Oh wait that terrifies people too ! How about crochet?

CorvusPurpureus · 04/04/2021 15:54

Well, whoever did it, I think it was a twattish thing to do, tbh.

Not on a par with death threats & rats, but there's a place for political graffiti & a memorial isn't it, IMO.

Agree it was very lucky that the community spirited types were there so serendipitously promptly to document it before cleaning it off...

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 04/04/2021 16:05

I can't disagree with the message.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 04/04/2021 16:24

It is interesting that the people who rushed to condemn the graffiti aren’t coming back to condemn the dead rat etc.

Erkrie · 04/04/2021 17:03

The silence certainly is deafening.

Except they didn’t vandalise the centre, they just graffitied the outside walls. And the anti-patriarchy slogan, on the glass shielding the memorial plaque, was quickly wiped off and did not deface the plaque itself.

MonkeyNotOrgangrinder · 04/04/2021 17:29

Not quite on a par with violent men hanging an effigy of a real actual woman from a tree, is it?
Or is anyone going to argue that it's equivalent?

Justhadathought · 04/04/2021 17:52

Seems very unlikely to me. Many Gender critical people are gay, themselves; and vandalism is just not a thing. Certainly not in Britain.

Looking at the links it seems as if people are desperate to link supposed 'transphobia' to homophobia' and general right wing stuff...which is just so wide of the mark.

Not sure what is going on in Spain, or the context, but there has been a lot of street protest and violence recently ( in Catalonia/Barcelona)

I think that was the general gist of the OP, no?
EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 04/04/2021 18:12

Pretty much. Graffiti is just as bad if not far worse than effigies, dead rats, rape threats & physical violence. And stickers are probably the worst thing of all.

MonkeyNotOrgangrinder · 04/04/2021 18:15

Alright then, will anyone explicitly state that they believe political graffiti from women is as bad and as frightening as men creating effigies of actual women and hanging them from a tree?
Or will the person who started the thread stop short of saying that? And if so, why?

Erkrie · 04/04/2021 18:15

Well words are literal violence doncha know.

MonkeyNotOrgangrinder · 04/04/2021 18:21

Yes, so I hear

Very happy to condemn the dead rat for you, along with any violent threats made to anyone. Of course I already condemned the violent threats and I assumed you would assume that someone who condemns violent threats would oppose nailing rats to anything, but clearly you didn't make that leap so here I am, condemning the dead rat and very happy to do so.

What we do seem to be missing though is any condemnation by you of the vandalism of the memorial to a trans woman. Did I just miss your post somehow, or are you actually criticising me for not doing what you didn't do?

I believe lots of people here have condemned that behaviour. I condemn any vandalism of memorials belonging to a transwomen or any other human being.

You must've somehow missed the many posts that condemned the graffiti. Go back through the thread and look, you'll be pleasantly surprised I'm sure. BTW, which would you find most threatening, a life size effigy of yourself hung from a tree, or some graffiti?

Indeed, but not by the person who was criticising me for not condemning the dead rat - which is the actual point I was making.

Well, yes. That's exactly what you were doing in your OP. The overwhelming majority of vandalism isn't coming from our side. It's yours. Instead of racing on here to finger wag at women over a rare example of GC spray painting, I suggest you focus your efforts on cleaning up your own movement.
EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 04/04/2021 18:34

I’m happy to condemn vandalism. And I’m glad you don’t approve of what was done to Vancouver Rape Relief.
