@yourhairiswinterfire

I just can't work out what connection those deaths have to GC feminists

It reminds me of when feminists are blamed by activists for the horrific deaths of trans sex workers in Brazil. Instead of blaming the men who murder them.

Like we influence these men or something, as if the kind of men who buy bodies for sex and have a desire to murder give a shiny shite what women or feminists have to say about anything.

The inescapable conclusion is that they don't actually really care about the tw being murdered, they just want to scold women. If they actually wanted to reduce the rate of murdered tw, they'd focus their attention on the men doing the murdering, surely?
Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 04/04/2021 19:29

Of course the OP wants to scold women. They're trying to link the conversations in this section to actions taken by people on Spain.

Nice try, but no cigar

Datun · 04/04/2021 19:30

What on earth is this thread trying to achieve? There is some graffiti on a memorial, so sex is meaningless?

Or something happened which is reprehensible by someone I don't like, so sex is meaningless?

How is this anything to do with Feminism? I'm guessing it's something to do with denying sex-based rights. But for the life of me I have no idea what.

RedDogsBeg · 04/04/2021 19:33

Like everything else Datun it's all our faultHmm.

It seems to be an attempt to distract from the feminist activism in Spain focussed on protecting sex based rights and Safeguarding.

'Feminist collective protests against proposed Trans and LGTBI laws at Spanish Equality ministry'
(extract)
"A group of protesters, called by Espacio Feminista Radical (EFR), have gathered this Saturday at noon before the Ministry of Equality, in Madrid, to denounce the consequences that, in their opinion, will have the identity laws – Trans Law and LGTBI Law-– drafted by the department of Irene Montero.

According to the protesters (several dozen), both norms “criminalize feminist discourse.” One of the spokespersons for EFR, Laura Arribas, has insisted that the group she represents does not go against the rights of any person but simply defends the rights of women. (continues)

Conflict in the Government

The PSOE and Podemos Parties, increasingly opposed by the ‘trans law’
“The Montero law aims to shield the right to ‘self-identification registration’ of sex”, explain the spokespersons of EFR, which, in their opinion, is “a frontal attack on the rights of women in Spain” that “will affect many areas such as positive measures contained in the Equality Law or, the collection of truthful statistics about violence and structural inequality suffered by women “.

They also believe that “it will violate the security and privacy of women in public locker rooms, shelters for victims of sexual and sexist violence, female modules in prisons and nursing homes. Not to mention the total destruction of women’s sport, turning it into mixed sport.”

“Making gender an identity by law is to undermine the historical achievements of feminism. And criminalizing criticism of gender identity, as the Ministry claims in the leaked draft of the LGTBI Law, means criminalizing feminist thought,” (continues)

It's the usual shaming-by-association Datun.

The OP is trying to show (and failing) that GC feminists (who may or may not have been responsible, no-one knows who did it) are just as bad as TRAs because some graffitied slogans are as bad as death threats, dead rats, effigies, rape threats. And we're responsible for the deaths of trans women in South America too, not the men who murdered them.

Vandalising a memorial though is absolutely unacceptable and I condemn it.

And stickers are probably the worst thing of all.

Absolutely. I’ve read that seeing the words “Women = adult human female” can literally kill people.

I was out in my AHF hoodie today. Maybe I should have been shouting a warning before people got close enough to see what it said.

People were traumatised by the sight of suffragette ribbons in Aberdeen, according to Ms Blackman MSP, so god knows what your hoodie was capable of.

Oh dear....
donquixotedelamancha · 04/04/2021 20:10

You stated that sex≠ gender was an example of cis privilege or was it my not finding it threatening an example of my " cis" privilege?.....You needing an explanation of why it's threatening is cis privilege. To any trans person, it's obvious.

This is just silly. Lots of trans people know that sex and gender are not the same thing. Lots of trans people oppose self ID.

The politics of eroding women's rights is not inherently pro-trans. Trans people are not a hive mind.

Down with this sort of thing.

GoingThruTheMotions · 04/04/2021 20:38

Careful now!

loveyouradvice · 04/04/2021 20:38

I'm just mulling the utter fear created by a sticker.....

Would it be terribly wicked of me to have an Easter Monday wander and gently leave a few in my wake?

Truly GC women are beyond the pale

Kotatsu · 04/04/2021 20:40

Sounds like a fair whack of cultural imperialism to me - I've lived in Spain, political graffiti was par for the course, although my favourite was the cars with the speakers on the roof going round spouting out fairly incomprehensible propaganda about a local election/some other political issue/sometimes football.

Just because something seems outstandingly rude/reprehensible in your country, doesn't mean people other countries feel the same way.

334bu · 04/04/2021 20:47

And then there's crochet.......literal murder!

334bu · 04/04/2021 21:00

Oops. I crochet too. And I have a variety of bags with feminist slogans on.

I’m dangerous, aren’t I?

yourhairiswinterfire · 04/04/2021 21:07

You need to log yourself with 101 immediately, Empress.

WoolOfBat · 04/04/2021 21:07

I am happy to condemn vandalism and graffiti. To deface a memorial is incredibly bad behaviour. I hope they have CCTV so that the criminals can be punished according to Spanish law.

I don’t understand how we are certain that it really is GC women behind this? Or why all GC women suddenly are accused of associating with this?

Again, I condemn it.

[quote R0wantrees]The glass/perspex cover over the memorial plaque to Cristina Ortiz was sprayed and then successfully cleaned up a month ago.
