Hello, I am new to London and this is the first time I will be voting in the GLA elections. Does anybody know if there are any GC candidates? I suspect not, but want to vote for someone who represents my views if possible.

I think the WEP are putting forward candidates - but then they aren't GC!

Toseland · 25/03/2021 18:04

I saw this yesterday and couldn’t believe my ears! David Kurton

Scepticaltank · 25/03/2021 18:18

That old beardy guy at the end! I do love a bit of mansplaining. He's out of touch. The blimmin House of Lords had to put the word mother back in a maternity policy, but yeah, we all halucinated that happening.

HermioneMakepeace · 25/03/2021 18:18

I actually felt sorry for Sadiq Khan in that video. He obviously thinks it’s a load of shit but has to toe the line.

Here are the candidates for Mayor of London. Some interesting characters. Although I laughed when I saw that Sian Berry was running on behalf of The Greens. She’s more than ruined her chances with all this Amie Challoner business.

I just came to see if there was a thread about this. I'm baffled by the intellectual dishonesty after watching that video.

Sadiq Khan has said that he believes that "trans women are women" and "trans men are men". Right. Fine. He has a right to hold that belief.

But given that, the clear and simple answer to David Kurten's question of do you think some women have male reproductive organs? was just...

Yes.

So say that, Sadiq!

Yes, quite something, isn't it?

PotholeHellhole · 26/03/2021 01:08

I've never yearned for Jeremy Paxman more.

PotholeHellhole · 26/03/2021 02:27

This is a refresher of the candidates standing.

Shame we can’t bin the lot of them.

Mumofgirlswholiketoplaywithmud · 26/03/2021 07:51

What about Farah London? Does anyone know her policies?

PotholeHellhole · 26/03/2021 08:04

What is the Heritage Party when it's at home?

EdgeOfACoin · 26/03/2021 08:10

@Mumofgirlswholiketoplaywithmud

What about Farah London? Does anyone know her policies?
Ex-Conservative, with some progressive policies (no council tax for under-25s, I think).

Seems more centrist and less crackers than some of the other candidates from what I can tell.

I'm not sure where she stands on women's rights or the twaw/GC debate.

EdgeOfACoin · 26/03/2021 08:17

@PotholeHellhole

What is the Heritage Party when it's at home?
Very socially conservative.

Anti TTIP, ECHR and Paris Climate Agreement.

Pro Green Belt.

Anti COVID passports.

Chrysanthemum5 · 26/03/2021 08:22

I don't feel sorry for Sadiq Khan at all he's an adult who is choosing to spout lies because it's better for his career. Not a thought for the children being damaged by this ideology or the women who are expected to just put up with it

And when he says (very patronisingly) that the interviewer is in danger of conflating sex and gender - yes that's because the ideology he espouses insists that having a female gender identity makes you the female biological sex and gives you access to spaces and things which are only for the female sex.

So he can fuck right off

HermioneMakepeace · 26/03/2021 08:26

@PotholeHellhole Heritage Party want to stop immigration and bus lanes.

OP posts:
PotholeHellhole · 26/03/2021 08:47

Well, that's not the goer I was hoping for.

I suppose the right-wing candidates are quite used to being jeered at in the Guardian et al, so adding "the empress has no clothes and has a penis! That's an emperor" to the portfolio isn't the same sacrifice it would be for the Labour, Lib-Dem and Green Party candidates.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/03/2021 08:48

No, exactly.

chicklingpixies · 26/03/2021 09:02

Count Binface allllllllll the way Grin
PotholeHellhole · 26/03/2021 09:02

Although, if you were going to vote for Fox as a GC protest vote, Kurten is actually a current politician and London Assembly member.

There's always the risk one's protest vote might win, so I do think you have to consider whether they've got any idea of what the job involves.

PotholeHellhole · 26/03/2021 09:14

Screw it, vote for the Count. Usher in a renaissance of government by the aristocracy. Grin

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/03/2021 10:26

It would be Binface for me. Khan, Berry and Reid can absolutely fuck off.

HermioneMakepeace · 26/03/2021 10:27

What questions should we be asking them?

OP posts:
CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 26/03/2021 11:45

I am tempted to vote for Binface at least as first preference.
