from what I can tell although self ID is not law, but it may as well be.
Quite intentional plan.
Get ahead of the law: get it to be normal and every day practice, get everyone used to it and believing they have no means of recourse from it, and then when the law's changed no one'll argue. (Except those bloody women who won't just shut up and hand over their rights quietly.)
This also means that when women want the law actually followed and insist on their own rights being respected too, you get the whole
- its been happening for years and you never noticed/minded
- you're rolling back rights
- the law and everyone using it is now totally confused by captured departments and the law having been re written and re worded to fit a preferred reality and then given as being the objective truth.
In all honesty, the level of gerrymandering and its success is bloody shocking. It's absolutely shocking.
I keep thinking however that those who broke this very grubby path need to think carefully. Because it's now been demonstrated how very easily a country's laws can be shifted in favour of a lobby group and a narrative created that makes it not only possible but MPs and others ranting loudly about the virtue of stripping away rights and being openly prejudiced against certain groups in favours of others.
Its beyond stupid. Because in a country where this can happen, you have nothing more than hoping your group stays in current fashion and favour. It can just as easily be you under the bus tomorrow, there'll be plenty of others happy to follow your lead to get what they want.
