Superstraight is trending on twitter. No I hadn't either.

Its a subcategory of straight that means that straight people can now be included in the lgbtqi+ categories. Or something. Hooray! Fight for my superstraight rights too Stonewall!. Or something

For someone who doesn’t use twitter, this whole superstraight thing has opened my eyes to what lesbians have to put up with.

Everything I've read about this is brilliant, but I feel a bit out of the loop here... Is it likely to blow over soon, or are things actually starting to change in a significant way? Is there suddenly a new cohort of people speaking up who felt unable to before? What are the demographics of this group? The subreddits are excellent (23k in r/SuperStraight already, which seems SuperFast), but I don't have a good sense of whether this is indicative of real change. I don't have any teenagers in my life so I've no idea what anyone below millennial age thinks about all of this.

PurpleHoodie · 09/03/2021 07:32

"LGBacklash" is my favourite nickname to come out (har har) of the comments under angry anime man's vid from a SuperLesbian.

It's been happening for a while.

My own daughter (16) is fairly GC but in what I'd call a lighthearted way - she says things like "isn't everyone non-binary. Come on!!!" And I began to pick up here and on social media more people saying "I was surprised at what my 16 year old was saying...." Plus you can see the people on Twitter getting steamed up are younger now - it's not just people who look like me anymore!

It's inevitable really - what one generation thinks is cool the upcoming one inevitably reacts against. And anime trans isn't cool. How is it rebellious and freeing to be demanding endless validation from others with implied threats of what will happen if you don't get it? Trans activists have not adjusted at all to the fact that they are the establishment now.

Who knows where all this will lead - there are some bad faith actors in the sub-reddit and radfems need to be cautious about leaping in! But I don't think trans activists will get quite such a free pass anymore.

BettyFilous · 09/03/2021 07:55

If only one good thing comes out of this, it will be the increased awareness of the coercion and pressure lesbians (and to a lesser extent gay men) have been put under to accept trans partners of the opposite sex. That the wider public are horrified and rushing to support lesbian and gays is also wonderful.

BettyFilous · 09/03/2021 07:58

That should have been lesbians (plural) and not to sound so abrupt. Basically, it shows that society has come a long way, is progressive and that there is widespread acceptance of gay and lesbian people.

One of the r/SuperStraight Mods says that the message on the Profile ("Good job r/superstraightphobia, ya’ll won") is nothing to worry about and that the sub has just been made private to let the Mods get some sleep - I hope he is right.

They expect Reddit will ban them like they ban everything else that's any good but they are already planning where they will relocate to when that happens.

This isn't going to go away.

We always said it would blow up when they finally went too far and started trying to gaslight straight men. Now they have done it and the men have found out what has been happening to lesbians and gays and they are outraged. They are also for the first time on the receiving end of all the hatred and banning and they are not going to back down.

What they do need is honest press coverage. Not regurgitation of the 4chan/Nazi smears.

There are infiltrators all the time on the reddit and the Discord posting stuff to discredit them but they get reported and banned very quickly.

They are very organised.

Rules on the Discord

Don't Be a Jerk
Be civil. Debate/discuss/argue the merits of ideas, not personal attacks on users. No doxxing, sending unwelcome messages in DM's, or other harassing behavior.

No Hate Speech
Really, don't be a jerk. Nothing to promote hate or bullying based on identity or vulnerability. Marginalized or vulnerable groups include, but not limited to:
• color, groups based on their actual and perceived race
• religion
• national origin, ethnicity, immigration status
• gender, gender identity, sexual orientation
• pregnancy
• disability.
• Victims of a major violent event and their families

Trying to circumvent banned words/hate speech, will result in kick/ban/mute.

Limit NSFW/NSFL Conversations
NSFW/NSFL links and images will result in a ban (e.g. porn/images of death/extreme violence/gore). Treat conversations about sex and sexuality as an adult, crude language and sexist comments will result in mute or ban.

No Death Wish
Do not threaten, advocate for, joke about, or celebrate violence/harm/death. No matter who the person or people are.

No Trolling
"Trolling (being a jerk)": the act of commenting or submitting links with the intent to shock, anger, or sow discord without good faith. Good faith is sincere intention to be fair, open, and honest, regardless of the outcome of the interaction. Our definition of troll also includes "concern trolling", gimmick accounts, deliberate misinformation, or purposefully trying to bypass rules and bots.

No Spamming or Soliciting
No spamming in caps, emojis, slogans, links, and other spammy things. No promoting other chat rooms, Reddit subs, or your personal projects.

No Disinformation
Repeatedly pushing demonstrably false or inaccurate information, especially if they contribute to harm or violence (COVID-19, vaccines, election misinformation, Qanon) is considered against the rules.
You do not have permission to send messages in this channel.

===============

I think under "Disinformation" they need to add "Clown Fish" and the rest of the nonsense that is all too familiar - but there are plenty of people on there who have obviously heard it all before or who are sensible enough to ask, "WTF has it got to do with fish!!" Grin

We are going to need another thread on here soon to keep track of developments!

Are super she/super her acceptable pronouns to use - in a meeting with a super woke organisation later & I feel ill be staring at a wall of pronouns!

@WarOnWomen

Kyle Ross, the teenager who originally posted his vid on TikTok got 2M likes on and has been banned from TikTok. He's started a GoFundme page. Good for him.
Is it definitely him do you know? I'll chip in if so

She makes more sense than half the gender studies professors.

There certainly do seem to be some "academic" disciplines where the more you study them the less you know.

Toomie · 09/03/2021 09:21

Only just catching up with all of this and seen we're nearing 1000 posts.
Not sure about the rules/etiquette of starting follow-on threads and don't want to try and get it wrong.
This seems significant and I expect there is a lot more to share and say.
Is anyone willing to start a new one and signpost here for continuity?

Xanthangum · 09/03/2021 09:30

Should probably be me @Toomie but I'm a bit tied up over there

I wonder if/when Stonewall will make a statement? Or the major TRAs?
Looking on that subreddit it’s nothing but support from every super sexual to each other, virtually no discrimination
I think this might actually be getting some traction

NecessaryScene1 · 09/03/2021 09:45

Looking on that subreddit it’s nothing but support from every super sexual to each other

That's cos supersexuals are super supportive. We all respect each others' supersexuality.

And nothing but love for our subsiblings too - subsexuality is as valid as supersexuality, as long as everyone consents, and is treated with respect. So no subphobia pls!

But I reckon nothing is as awesome and fun as being just super with each other!

LGBS solidarity! Supers unite!

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 09/03/2021 09:57

I was coming to post Blair's video but see I have already been pipped to the post! Great to see Blair is a #superally and willing to speak out against the hypocrisy of the TRAs.

The sub is at 24k now! It was at 1.5k or so a couple of days ago, it's really growing quickly. I'm enjoying seeing the support between the superstraights, the superlesbians, the super gays, and the superbis. Satire aside, there's something to be said for the feeling of community. Some of the stories that have been shared by superlesbians are heartbreaking, even if not unexpected to us. Anything that helps give lesbians a microphone to use when speaking out against the insidious conversion of young lesbians, and demands for them to 'embrace girl dick', is positive in my book. Same for the demands for bi women to sleep with trans people because they 'like both genitals anyway so what's the issue, transphobe?' It's just a crying shame it takes a trend largely championed by (super)straight men to get people to listen.

Sending support to all of you heckin valid supersexuals out there!
