Superstraight is trending on twitter. No I hadn't either.

Its a subcategory of straight that means that straight people can now be included in the lgbtqi+ categories. Or something. Hooray! Fight for my superstraight rights too Stonewall!. Or something

I guess I can't identify as Superstraight because I could imagine myself dating a gender critical transwoman (ala Miranda Yardley).

No, I think you're fine being superstraight there, because Miranda knows he's not a woman.

A transwoman is only excluding themselves from a superstraight woman's dating pool by their own insistence on being a woman.

A superstraight woman wouldn't dream of invalidating a transwoman's identity as a woman by trying to make the transwoman date them. Heaven forbid. Superfolk are big on their partners wanting them.

But if a transwoman doesn't insist they're a woman, then there's no blocker, is there? Miranda is a transwoman, but is also a man who was born as a man. Go for it :) (Although I think he might be supergay).

Moles that statement you shared is a thing of beauty, so very well explained.

the individual rejects gender in its totality, and sees themselves, their identity rooted in the biological fact of their sex.

That's it. That nails it.

I'm now quite grateful for the conversation last week where we were informed it was cis or trans and nothing else: it moved me into the perfect frame of mind to be ready for this and I wholly embrace my new identity.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 08/03/2021 14:56

"Men tend to assume that a "yes" is default and women have to have reasons to say no. However, women don't need reasons to not be attracted to someone. "No" is default. "

This is THE most salient point re. the divide between male and female attitudes to sex/ attraction ever.
Excellent!

No is absolutely default. Give me a reason TO like you, not ask for reasons why I don't. And in fact, asking for reasons why I don't will become another reason why I don't.
Men are not OWED "being liked" or explanations when that doesn't happen.

Sittingonabench · 08/03/2021 14:58

Did anybody else miss the definition of homosexuality and heterosexuality change from sex to gender??!! Confused
It never really clicked that this is why lesbians are being pressurised into relations with those who identify as the same “gender” but born male.
Feeling completely out of my depth with the level of change but seriously considering putting super straight on the census to show solidarity with lesbian and gay friends who carved out a space for their sexuality only to have the meaning changed on them!

Exactly. Whining why won't you sleep with me, is a question that just answered itself.

We've been talking about it on FWR and on the site at large for 3 years or more:

Yes. Three years at a minimum.

eaglerising · 08/03/2021 15:29

I think it slips by people as concepts of sex and gender are often conflated. Obviously more so recently. Hopefully this movement will tighten up the meanings of the two words more for people. Might find more people actually on side when it is fully realised the actual real life implications of conflating sex and gender.

nauticant · 08/03/2021 15:33

Yes, I wasn't intending to be sarky to @Sittingonabench, I was simply making that point. The definition changed from sex-based attraction to gender-based attraction years ago and although people try to talk about it, it still goes under the radar for most people in the UK.

Helleofabore · 08/03/2021 15:34

@DisgustedofManchester

I guess Straight pride will now be Super Straight Pride now... a 4Chan parody using pornhub branding has gone viral... it is very amusing.
And maybe, superlesbians can be at pride without being abused, threatened or told just what they can wear, or what placards they can carry if they want to highlight issues that concern them and their biology.

That might be a good thing too!

yeahbutnaw · 08/03/2021 15:49

Personally, I'm really happy that trans exclusionists have created their own sexuality.

It means the rest of us can keep our existing labels as regular gay people, lesbians and bisexuals.

MoleSmokes · 08/03/2021 15:52

Who would have thought that Lesbians, Gays and Bi's would get massively more support from Straights than from what is supposed to be their own community . . .

"Superlesbianphobia is probably the worst type of superphobia I've seen so far. Absolutely repulsive that lesbians are now being hated for being attracted to women with a vagina. This needs to end."

"Agreed. It looks like they got so woke that they poked the superstraight beast and now we're learning of the horrific treatment of the superlesbian and supergay people that's been going on for years.

I had ZERO idea about the cotton and boxer ceilings and now I'm furious at how they've been forced to put up with violent rapists."

Thanks for your support. Some of the angry reactions to us Suoers have really made me feel unsafe, erased and not valid.

We prefer the terms "subgays", "sublesbians" and "subbisexuals".

(Sub is a Latin prefix, meaning the opposite of "super").

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/03/2021 16:05

Inspired, Necessary Wine it's just the opposite of super, after all. Why would anyone object? It's just what people are.

and we are going to insist you use it, and that we are perfectly entitled to use it for and about you whether you like it or not, because it's just Latin and just an easy way to differentiate after all.

CorvusPurpureus · 08/03/2021 16:13

I teach Latin, & approve of this prefix. It's widely used & understood, where 'c1s' is not.

So, this superstraight/lesbian/gay/bi movement is making increasingly more sense.

I like the fact that if the superlesbians are at Pride, they can talk about themselves, for themselves and about anything that they feel is relevant just for them!

The super/sub prefixes seems fit for purpose and are not terms that are being made to fit, they just work.

And even better, those actively involved in progressing the movement, already have scripts that have been used by another movement so, it is quicker to spool up the activism.
