Bunbury's Ninth Public Announcement - Hill Walking Club

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a4164702-Bunbury-s-Eighth-Sealion-training-for-beginners?msgid=105201850#105201850

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

This thread will be taking a leisurely stroll through the foothills of community disruption, noting the behaviour of wildlife and interesting flora and fauna en route.

I was going to put this on the last thread as there was the discussion about VSDs, but the table attached in this website shows the prevalence of the different conditions and whether they are male or female: dsdfamilies.org/parents/what-dsd/brief-overview

Mumofgirlswholiketoplaywithmud · 03/03/2021 09:29

Oh how I'd love to go on a long walk in the countryside.. perhaps overlooking a sea or lake or up a tall mountain. My youngest's inability to nap in a carrier, scuppered any pre-lockdown attempts

gardenbird48 · 03/03/2021 09:33

I had some nice walking boots for Christmas- they are very cosy and I love a good walk - we’ve got lots of hills where I live.

I promise to get better at skimming over and not engaging with the rocky boulders that are out to twist our ankles.

Winesalot · 03/03/2021 09:33

Oooh!!!! And we can still spot escapee imported marsupials! Thank you!!

MichelleofzeResistance · 03/03/2021 09:35

Do we have to have Windermere boots for this? I know they're pretty much de rigeur this year, and they are indeed rather lovely, but I have nothing more than wellies this season...? I can wear a long skirt and hang around at the back if necessary.

ArabellaScott · 03/03/2021 09:36

Yes, missing long hill walks here, too. I have a great pair of boots that have carried me to some wonderful places. My youngest is reluctant to do big walks at all, but hopefully if we start small and keep going then eventually we'll all be out there reclaiming the hills in due course.

Not many wild marsupials in this area, but you never know. Smile

No fancy boots required, Michelle. Wellies are great for navigating bogs and sinking sand.

I always manage to wear a hole in my wellies after about 6 months, is that standard Welly life-span?

Winesalot · 03/03/2021 09:44

Well I also believe there are plenty of escapee imported rodents of unusual size around too. (capybara, I mean, although I am sure wellies are needed in fire swamps, though they might come off in lightning sands)

highame · 03/03/2021 09:50

I buy wellies and they just end up becoming houses for spiders, as have some brilliant sailing boots that I use for everything.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/03/2021 10:05

My goodness, we have burning through these threads lately!

ErrolTheDragon · 03/03/2021 10:20

I'm looking forward to being able to get back up into the hills. My local area is flat with the hills tantalisingly in view but a bit too far off to get to at the moment.

I did get up a bit of a hill yesterday; I booked my jab in the next town up and we walked to the park afterwards. It's on a summit, fantastic clear views.

That's the best thing about hilltops. Some are bleak and lonely, but you can see so much and put everything around in its correct context.

DaisiesandButtercups · 03/03/2021 10:26

I have a great pair of wellies, made by Dunlop. They are on their second or possibly third winter now. Daily walks of up to two hours. They have been brilliant, my previous pair only lasted for a month before splitting. The mud is deep and difficult to avoid where I usually walk so it has to be wellies for me.

Sophoclesthefox · 03/03/2021 10:32

Good morning, fellow hikers! Don’t mind me, I’m just up here popping a wee stone on the cairn of critical thinking Grin

That last thread filled up so quickly.

Welly recommendations: I have a pair of Aigles that I bought in late 2013, that get used a lot and are still going strong. They’re built to last.

DaisiesandButtercups · 03/03/2021 10:33

I’ve been wondering how the word epiphany would go down?

One could have an epiphany or a sudden moment of realisation at the highest point of a hill or a mountain... inspired by the view perhaps to awareness of a startlingly different perspective than the one held previously.

Thank you ArabellaScott for starting the Bunbury Hillwalking Club. Fresh air and exercise in such fine company is just the ticket.

PopperUppleton · 03/03/2021 10:36

Can I tell my favourite wellies joke? Actually my only wellies joke? An old 'un but a good 'un

What have George Michael and a pair of wellies got in common?

They both get sucked off in bogs Grin

OwBist · 03/03/2021 10:39

I have really ugly Crocs wellies. Really wide footbed for balance, and nice wide (but not very tall) legs for those of us of the "short and stumpy" persuasion. Thanks for starting the latest thread. I've not seen too many disruptors recently, but I've hidden a few threads which gave me the rage....

AffronttoGender · 03/03/2021 10:46

New to Bunbury and just checking in.

Had 2 of my threads deleted from here yesterday, was very upsetting and had a panic attack because I thought I was outted. Hence the name change, as the induced paranoid told me that my old user name itself was an affront to gender, and could be the reason why my OPs were deleted, twice, and I don't post often.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/03/2021 10:52

Welcome, Affront - I missed the kerfuffles yesterday, sorry to hear that. But good new name!

Winesalot · 03/03/2021 10:57

We all know the best thing about hilltop walks!

Sunlight.

And lots and lots of it!!!!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/03/2021 11:01

Had 2 of my threads deleted from here yesterday, was very upsetting and had a panic attack because I thought I was outted.

The second thread was deleted as it was a TAAT (Thread About A Thread) and generally they delete these. You could start one in Site Stuff asking about their general policy. I agree the first one should not have been taken down Thanks

AffronttoGender · 03/03/2021 11:17

@ErrolTheDragon@Ereshkigalangcleg Thanks both. FlowersBrew

I was going to pop into the previous Bunbury thread, but wasn't sure whether the deletion curse would follow me and take down a 1000 post thread....so waited for this one....

StillFemale · 03/03/2021 11:48

I see women are only allowed to wander around the foothills these days and not go up the the , what’s the word, I’m sure there was a word that used to be used for the summit, the pinnacle of the hill, what was it? Hmm

CoffeeTeaChocolate · 03/03/2021 11:54

I am also struggling with that word, p something... Peep, pook....?

OwBist · 03/03/2021 11:56

Oooo, you've piqued my interest in your word search..... Smile
