Bunbury's Ninth Public Announcement - Hill Walking Club

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/a4164702-Bunbury-s-Eighth-Sealion-training-for-beginners?msgid=105201850#105201850

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

This thread will be taking a leisurely stroll through the foothills of community disruption, noting the behaviour of wildlife and interesting flora and fauna en route.

Rowan definitely is going to need it considering the intense scrutiny on that thread.

This and the lack of understanding or sheer indifference to women's rights and the context of FWR put me in mind of Donna Zuckerberg's book (the Greek socratic mill style with added 'Gotcha'):

Malt loaf and gin, that sounds amazing.

I still think it was unfair of the guest to not answer my questions about the multiple spirits. They brought that argument up ☹️. And I never had any explanation about the difference between gender and personality ☹️.

Sophoclesthefox · 03/03/2021 17:47

I think it’s time for us to discuss some mammals again. How come otters get much better press than coypus? Has there been institutional capture, or is that otterly ridiculous?

SunsetBeetch · 03/03/2021 17:52

What is this about toasting malt loaf? Wouldn't just go all melty?

Admit I had to google coypus. They look like mini capybara. I approve!

Mollyollydolly · 03/03/2021 17:55

My current wellies are dunlop, cost 11 quid, just as good as the expensive ones I had. Great for the squelching mud of the everyday dog walk.

CoffeeTeaChocolate · 03/03/2021 18:00

Can we not discuss otters please? Horrible rapey creatures. I am still scarred after it came up last time Sad

midgedude · 03/03/2021 18:07

Can we talk hills again? The Scottish ones are green and then a blast of purple heather late summer /early autumn

I also have Dunlop, capacious of calf. But for hill walking it's Goretex-lined boots every time. I keep meaning to try gaiters with them.

Me too but mine were £18, they are the top of the range Dunlop (not the usual colour, intended for festival use I think) and they’ve been brilliant.

In fact I have just taken them off after a 3 hour hill walk and come home to discover total chaos. Wow this place has gone crazy.

I’ll admit to feeling more than a little cross that some statements of belief are acceptable and others which most believe to be statements of fact would be deletable offences or worse. I can’t say plainly what I believe here, I can’t say it in many places at all. That is a form of tyranny and intolerance which I never expected to face in this country until very recently.

ArabellaScott · 03/03/2021 19:20

[finishes long and expansive picnic with extra tea and malt loaf]

[takes a quick look through binoculars at the chaos in the carpark at the foot of the hill]

[pitches tent for the night]

Starlit skies and a stiff breeze. Lovely.

Re walking boots, I have a lovely pair of old brown leather Scarpas, but they look a bit dry and neglected after so lung in the cupboard. Please can I have some recommendations for something to treat them with to make them shiny and waterproof again?
After you've given them a clean and they are dry, apply neatsfoot oil. Its a penetrating oil for leather, it will condition the leather and make it soft & waterproof.
Sophoclesthefox · 03/03/2021 20:05

Is this place doing dual service as the pub now, too? If it is, I will have a large imaginary chateauneuf du pale, please! I’m worn out being polite.

Sophoclesthefox · 03/03/2021 20:06

*du pape, not du pale 🙄

Thebumblingdark · 03/03/2021 20:06

I don't have any good recipes but I can tell you that mini lunchbox maltloaf is bloody brilliant after 10 seconds in the microwave. Almost makes up for the crust to loaf ratio!

midgedude · 03/03/2021 20:08

I only Take port or whisky on the hill, it's lighter to carry

We used to have our own village, inter and intra-dimensional portals so that we could pass into and out of the community as necessary, and a pub. The pub did excellent snacks and it was fabulous. There were convivial areas and places where you could just curl up and be exhausted but somehow be supported by the friendliness and understanding around you.
midgedude · 03/03/2021 20:16

Can we have a lock in? I keep straying and it's not good for me

Sophoclesthefox · 03/03/2021 20:23

And it had goats and a patriarch blasting cannon, too! Shall we revive it? Grin

Oh no, are otters bad? I once made a two week trip to the Isle of Mull for the sole reason of trying to see one. Naturally, the bastards all hid from me.
MichelleofzeResistance · 03/03/2021 20:25

It's becoming a kind of highly alcoholic camping expedition up a hill with cake. I'm for it.

As the last few days of homeschooling drag on I'm allllll for it.

TwistedEyeOfHorus · 03/03/2021 20:26

Sunlight is the best disinfectant. All the women in my ancestry knew that.

Hill walking sounds excellent. My knees are no good, though, and I struggle going down mountains.

midgedude · 03/03/2021 20:30

I saw an otter on mull! And once in torridon

and walking poles are great for dodgy knees, as is a significant preparation of leg strengthening exercises . We could run a leg strength class upstairs at the pub?
