Old thread nearly full!

————————————-

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

Remember there are people out there who would like to silence us by fair means or foul.

This is a continuation of the Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3944572-Bunburys-guide-to-community-disruptors-part-5?pg=40

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging. AS is your friend.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted.. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we always have community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links can be found in the ‘Break it Down for me’ and ‘It never happens’ threads but in essence FermatsTheorem recommended “that in the absence of a block/hide poster button, I suggest the following strategy (given that you're talking to the lurkers).

Do not name check the sealion. Instead, respond to a depersonalised paraphrase:

"It is sometimes erroneously suggested that blah. Blah is wrong for the following reasons (short and pithy). If you need more information re. debunking blah, here's a link."

Then (this next step is important to combat derailment) go back up thread to the last useful contribution to the discussion, make sure you do name check that contributor, and pick up the discussion from that point.”

Rufus your description of otters reminds me of those men on Twitter who claim that rape porn only exists because women love it.

FannyCann · 14/02/2021 13:57

This is so disturbing. I had no idea that there were so many evil, raping animals out there, all being super sneaky about it and managing to keep it out of mainstream media

I'm pretty sure the definitive list of sneaker raped animals is to be found on this thread iirc..

https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/3386868-AIBU-to-be-livid-how-dolphins-are-portrayed-compared-to-how-they-are

FannyCann · 14/02/2021 14:00

Sorry. Sneaky rapist animals that should have read. Grin

ArabellaScott · 14/02/2021 14:27

My god pandas frustrate me. It's as though They just cannot be arsed.

Agree. I think they need a poke with a sharp bit of bamboo.

Koalas, meanwhile: I had a friend who worked with them, said they were horrible wee arseholes. They do make a mildly amusing noise when fighting:

www.ranker.com/list/koalas-are-terrifying-animals/justin-andress

Also: ' Like most other marsupials including kangaroos the male koala has a double headed penis. The female koala has two vagina and a third vagina forms at a later stage for the process of birthing and closes back up after.' Shock

Am now getting youtube suggestions for Suriname Toads. Highly advice not googling.

It's the Powerful Network of International Sea Otters (PNISO).

Anyone's spidey senses going off about a somewhat transparent attempt to revive a completely discredited urban myth?

SophocIestheFox · 14/02/2021 15:40

@AlfonsoTheTerrible

The link is broken, OP. I am a little puzzled by this thread so was hoping for some clarification.

Am all for sealion training but don't wish to hear about sea otter proclivities as I like the fuzzy little creatures and don't wish to hear anything that will break my heart.

Sorry Alfonso, I didn’t realise the link was broken, I just copypastad from the last thread.

It’s kind of an in joke. The feminist chat thread quite often gets people arriving who are not keen to participate in our fine chat, but rather want to disrupt it using various tried and tested techniques. When we think that’s happening we refer to the writings of the grand dame of feminism, the late lamented Germaine Bunbury, who had many tactics for dealing with bad faith debaters.

But mostly we ricochet between recipes and the ferocious sexual deviance of animals with good PR.

I suspect that hasn’t cleared it up at all Grin

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 14/02/2021 15:49

And it's all your collective fault that I have just ordered a pair of sheepskin slipper-boots, in self defence. They at least are quite likely to be genuinely cuddly and not sneaky rapists on the side.

ArabellaScott · 14/02/2021 15:55

did we make a breakthrough and get allowed to trend and be seen by all??

YANBU, someone left the gate to FWR open, crikey, there'll be otters and sealions all over the penguin enclosure. Carnage.

VioletAlder · 14/02/2021 16:07

Sea Life in Scarborough is very proud of the fact that they have to have a Category A Zoo Licence (normally for, like, tigers. Or hippos) just because they have otters.

There's an evacuation plan in case they ever get loose. Basically, it's 'All our bases now belong the otters!' & the staff are instructed to run like fuck, herding the punters out ahead of them.

If it's these guys, they're huge.

CaraDuneRedux, would it be OK if I PMd you? If not, fine, but I really am on the up-n-up.
VioletAlder · 14/02/2021 16:32

They weren't - they were cat size. I'm googling now & sadly suspect the youth employed as Chief Otter Wrangler at SSL may only have identified as a Category 1 Zoo Keeper.

Damn. He totally fooled me 😂.

Although otters are prone to rabies it says?

PotholeParadies · 14/02/2021 16:33

It is the longest member of theweaselfamily,Mustelidae, a globally successful group of predators, reaching up to 1.7 metres (5.6ft)

Shock

Is the evacuation plan 'get in the car and drive north, and don't stop until you reach Hadrian's Wall'?

PotholeParadies · 14/02/2021 16:38

Cross-post! Sad to hear Scarborough doesn't have giant otters after all.

Given how tall the giant otters are, many of the people that you know could be giant otters in disguise.
Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 14/02/2021 16:50

Checking in here because reasons/threads Hmm

And the unmasking of the loveable wee otters that hold hands shocked me so much that I mixed up the tablet testing spoon with the soup testing spoon blurg Envy

I would’ve preferred not to out myself, but what the hell, I suppose my blog could use the traffic. Just don’t all rush over at once or it’ll collapse.

I posted because I’d come across the razor blade thing on another forum, and figured it had probably been mentioned here. Sure enough, google pointed to that old thread, amidst links to tweets and reddit posts and whatnot. So here I am. On the Bunbury thread no less. I’m practically honoured.

You’ll see if you scroll down that I collect links. (Some people collect thimbles. It’s a hobby.) I got many of those from trawling [as opposed to trolling] FWR, so thanks.

I’m interested in facts, as well as urban myths, which is why I started that thread. I wasn’t lying about being lazy, but it looks like I’d better improve my Goolge-fu.

All the best to you all, and remember, just because it might walk like you’ve seen ducks walk before, that doesn’t mean it’s going to quack.
