Good.

The most “on the make” politician I’ve encountered since Tony Blair.

In what way? She would earn far more as a QC than she does as an MP
peak2021 · 03/02/2021 07:21

Judging by the support within the SNP Joanna Cherry had in their last internal elections (was it for the executive), a great mistake. The loss of a few votes either to other parties or by not voting in the 2021 Scottish Parliamentary elections could be significant for the SNP. If pro-union parties get a majority of votes (and seats) then any chance of Indy Ref 2 becomes even less than it is now.

ArabellaScott · 03/02/2021 09:16

Just checking to see if Nicola Sturgeon has managed to record a personal message asking women not to leave the SNP, yet? And to publically support her female MP who has had credible threats and had to find a safe house? No? Nothing?

Lovely. What a peach.

Are you including Nicola in that?

@Thelnebriati thanks a lot for posting the link to that Twitter discussion. Joanna was brilliant!

Article in the Times today about a row during SNP weekly meeting:

I like how they put “unscripted” in quotes.

Not quite true to say that opposition parties haven’t entered the fray, the Scottish Greens have been happy to welcome many of the activists who left the SNP.

“Blackford said he would deal with it” .... by sacking Cherry. I find that cowardly.

ArabellaScott · 04/02/2021 07:42

I'm sure opposition parties with any expectation of power are watching closely to see how divisive the issue is and how useful/dangerous it is when push comes to shove.

I suppose the question is whether people think women's rights are important enough to fight for.

Whatdoyoudowhendemocracyfails · 04/02/2021 07:44

TWAWNoDebate is the Lib Dem line, they are already further down the rabbit hole than the SNP.

ArabellaScott · 04/02/2021 07:58

Yes, you'll note Labour and Tories haven't settled.on a line yet ...

Whatdoyoudowhendemocracyfails · 04/02/2021 08:40

I suspect the Tories will be doing polling in those “Red Wall” seats before deciding. It won’t be about whether they think women’s rights matter, it will just be whether saying “women don’t have penises” will give them an advantage over Labour.

itswonkylampshade · 04/02/2021 08:50

Lifelong SNP voter here and they’ve lost my vote, too. What a farce. Time to go, Nicola.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 04/02/2021 09:02

From the Times article upthread, Keith Brown, the depute leader, wrote to members warning that “transphobia under the guise of a concern for women’s rights is still transphobia”.
I'm not a member of the SNP but I'd hope he got at least a few replies pointing out that misogyny under the guise of concern for trans rights is still misogyny.
I find it extraordinary that a man would have the utter gall to tell women off for their concern over women's rights.

littlbrowndog · 04/02/2021 09:13

It was on news in Scotland this morning about the threat against Joanna

A man in his 30s was arrested on a communications charge

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/02/2021 09:18

Good.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 04/02/2021 09:31

Of course, misogyny isn't a crime. Despite 2 or 3 women being murdered a week, misogyny isn't a crime.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 04/02/2021 09:32

A man in his 30s?

Has anyone seen LilOJ?

littlbrowndog · 04/02/2021 09:34

Lol

But still no impassioned plea from sturgeon despite the fact one of her female MPS has had threats of violence against her 🤷‍♀️

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 04/02/2021 09:48

They can't see it, can they? They can't see the way that they dismiss issues specific to women.

It is as if everyone has forgotten that Jo Cox was murdered four years ago.

It's disgusting.

littlbrowndog · 04/02/2021 10:26

It’s true that viv

Was on the bbc news on radio. As well now

Wonder If sturgeon will make a comment

After all the hate was whipped up about her transphobia

littlbrowndog · 04/02/2021 10:28

Then sturgeon made that video.

It was mentioned that some women might use it to be transphobic in the guise of women’s rights 🤷‍♀️

Our justice secretary yousaf. Also used the same words

MichelleofzeResistance · 04/02/2021 10:31

Not impressed with that Times article; if you read it with no idea of what's happening, you'd take away that there were just a few bra burning zealots being difficult for the sake of it.

Apparently no national paper has the guts to report honestly and lay out:

What trans rights exactly are missing and desired?

What impact would these 'rights' have on female people?

This is being achieved largely because the electorate are being kept intentionally unaware.
