@dyslek

My mum and dad were sort of hippies and had friends who were in to the Bagwan, the orange people we used to call them.

I still have some unpleasent memories of an afternoon spent at one of their 'meditation' sessions [shudders even more]

That sounds dreadful 😳 like one of those time share things or MLM where they get really arsey and complain you are wasting their time

Ive got a lovely friend who keeps trying to get me to go to bible study...not gonna happen 😀

Dear Owen Jones, we are not frightened of transgender people, we are frightened of men.

Limbering up for the 2021 Trifle Trials...

Floisme · 26/01/2021 23:05

Ladies (and gentlemen): Dame Jenni Murray:

'Well done Janice. Keep it up. I’m with you. And Owen I do hope Kier is well and your male Burmese will one day meet my female. Both clear about sex, not gender.'

Ah, that's lovely Grin

ArabellaScott · 26/01/2021 23:21

Round of applause for JM.

MaudTheInvincible · 26/01/2021 23:21

Also, I now have some Rachel's rice pudding in my fridge as a direct result of this thread, and I'm going to try those custard tarts from Lidl as soon as I can.

merrymouse · 26/01/2021 23:23

The irony is that AIDS devastated particular groups of people regardless of whether they ‘identified’ with the group.

There are still restrictions on giving blood for men who have recently had sex with another man in the last 3 months.

WarOnWomen · 26/01/2021 23:57

Oh I love Janice Turner's response to LOJ tweets. Go Janice 👏🏻👏🏻💕👏🏻👏🏻

She's absolutely spot on

Dear Owen Jones, we are not frightened of transgender people, we are frightened of men.
Igneococcus · 27/01/2021 06:57

He is just so completely outgunned, intellectually.

Floisme · 27/01/2021 08:15

Spare a thought for Owen Jones: weaned, I imagine, on tales of working class and civil rights heroes, dreaming of leading his own struggle when he's grown up. And then he thinks he's found one, only to realise he has to deny science and sound more like Jolyon Maugham with every passing day.

socialworker222 · 27/01/2021 08:27

what about trifle?
Can't believe someone brought jelly into this toxic debate.
My mother thinks jelly in trifle.is 'common'. OJ wouldn't like that

Jetatyeovilaerodrome · 27/01/2021 08:58

Does OJ just have absolutely no idea how it looks when he writes a massive rant and then blocks replies? He is starting to sound desperate and unhinged.

Janice Turner (who doesn't block replies, as doesn't JKR) just seems so classy and calm in comparison.

Winesalot · 27/01/2021 09:21

My mother thinks jelly in trifle.is 'common'.

Er! Jelly is very necessary. Fruit is horrid.

Besides I want to bounce on the jelly between the sponge cake pontoons to get across the pool.

Deliriumoftheendless · 27/01/2021 09:26

I’m backing out of this custard debate now, it’s just all too toxic.

What we need is more light, less heat on this (because then the trifle will melt and curdle).

TheCoolNightAirLikeShalimar2 · 27/01/2021 09:29

We can't call OJ a cult?

ArabellaScott · 27/01/2021 09:29
ArabellaScott · 27/01/2021 09:29

A jelly pool, FYI.

MichelleofzeResistance · 27/01/2021 11:37

The custard's gone toxic?

I told you lot not to leave it standing out all night. It's gone off, like poor old LOJ.

Janice has rather handed him his behind in a party bag there. It appears that the Guardian and its crew have completely lost it over Christmas, it's getting more and more unhinged, and that Janice is somewhat taking the gloves off to share in this view.

2020canfuckitself · 27/01/2021 11:41

Urgh is he still going on? Trust a man to order women on how to feel about the subject.

NotBadConsidering · 27/01/2021 11:56

If Jones and the Guardian had courage and total confidence in their convictions, they would get Jones to write an article based on his tweets, open it for comments, and then not modify those comments out of existence if they told him exactly what they thought of the article. But they don’t.

They’re complete cowards.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/01/2021 11:57

Janice has rather handed him his behind in a party bag there.

She really has.

Winesalot · 27/01/2021 12:04

I also found this tweet by Jack Appleby somewhat informative.

twitter.com/jackappleby/status/1354154338189529096?s=20

It is actually retweeting another person (Nuddering) who I don't know anything about, but listed an interest that the little one had in uni regarding another group known for being marginalised and persecuted. I am not quite sure whether he was correcting them as per his perception which does match the group's, or what his intentions were. .... either way he felt it was his role to amend wikipedia entries about Israel on numerous occasions to reflect what he felt was the truth.

My point being, in his mind he felt he had the right to state his view over others who might have had expertise, lived experiences etc. He felt his view was obviously factually correct at the time. Funny how he denigrates any person who wants to stick to the 'facts' now. Or maybe it is just that they are women.
