Dear Owen Jones, we are not frightened of transgender people, we are frightened of men.

There you go, fixed that for you.

I think it's also a sign of how some men are so accustomed to predatory behaviour towards women that they assume it's the norm, and that lesbians would therefore act the same way. It's ignorant but also very revealing.

Can't help thinking that people who assume that lesbians are a threat must find the world a very frightening place, given that so many of them have apparently escaped conviction...

The thing is, the reason that OJ is so determined to refuse to listen to any other view on this is that he is terrified of being on 'the wrong side history'. And he is convinced that the 'trans rights' thing will go the same way as the gay rights thing, as we will look back on women defending sex based rights in the same way that we look back on people saying that gay people were disgusting sinners. He doesn't want to give an inch because he thinks that in 30 years time trans rights activists will have achieved what they want and people will applaud him for being on the 'right side of history' and never even considering an alternative.

But let's just take a look at what this society, where a 65 year old OJ was right all along and smugly looks back on his old tweets while congratulating himself for never entertaining an alternative view, actually looks like:

  1. GRA is reformed so that any male can legally change is sex, falsify their birth certificate and therefore have access to all legal rights for women with the single filling in of a form.
  2. Single sex exemptions removed from the Equality Act.
  3. A woman who has been raped and has asked for a female forensic examiner is faced with a biological male who identifies as female.
  4. Biological males who have artificially lowered their testosterone to an 'acceptable' level, taking part in women's sport at all levels.
  5. Male rapists who identify as women being housed in female prisons. Some women get assaulted by them, but then again, sometimes women get assaulted by other women in female prisons so it doesn't really matter does it?
  6. Women fleeing violence at the hands of a male ending up sharing space in a women's refuge with a biological male. If she feels uncomfortable with that then that's just a sign her her bigotry and that is an issue that she will have to work through.
  7. Gay and lesbian having no meaning - if you are a lesbian then of course you should still be including female penises in your dating pool - otherwise you are just obsessed with genitals and a total weirdo.
  8. Children being taught in primary school that if they are a boy but they like pink and dresses, or of they are a girl but they like having short hair and playing football, then that it could mean there is some kind of 'mismatch' going on, due to hormones in the womb - but not to worry because it can be corrected further down the line with drugs and surgery.
  9. Lots and lots of children having their wrong bodies 'corrected' in clinics up and down the country by having their healthy breasts removed, taking off label drugs, not going through a proper puberty and therefore missing out on vital brain development, being sexually dysfunctional forever, being infertile, having to dialate open wounds for years, being a medical patient for life.

I mean, it sounds like fucking utopia doesn't it? And thank god Owen Jones was on the right side of history all along.

4) Biological males who have artificially lowered their testosterone to an 'acceptable' level, taking part in women's sport at all levels.

I don't think they would have to lower testosterone levels - it would just be observed that they were women with naturally high levels of testosterone. Eventually (given that its often difficult to get funding and coverage for women's sport as it is) there would be no separate women's class in any sport.

Gosh, that clip of Oweneen Jones just shows him to be a pathetic, petulant and self-important gobshite. He just sounds trite rather than clever. Maybe entertaining at 12, but hitting 40? When you're just talking rubbish, it becomes irritating for others to have to listen to your verbosity. Not insightful at all.

So, if nobody can say anything about gay people if they aren't gay, who the hell is he is he to mandate the lay of the land to women about things that particularly affect women? He should get back in his box.

Jetatyeovilaerodrome · 28/01/2021 17:39

He squares that particular circle in his head by telling himself that it doesn't affect women. Because, ya know, no transwoman has ever won an Olympic medal and also if a man wants to rape you he will do it anyway. Or something.

So suck it up biatches!!!!

Cailleach1 · 28/01/2021 18:11

Maybe a la some religious thought, these men's rights crusaders (like Oweneen) consider a woman as not fully human. A defective man, so doesn't need to be recognised as a full person or to be given due regard.

MichelleofzeResistance · 28/01/2021 18:27

I appreciate your generosity in interpreting the behaviour. I'm afraid I'm a lot more cynical and just suspect someone's found a really lovely outlet to be as misogynistic as he wants and still feel righteous. It seems to be a real symptom of men on the left, as in those articles out this week.

The 'terra nullis' view of women shared by that philosopher resonates a lot with me as I listen and observe. There really does seem to be a belief that unless something is useful and meaningful and relevant to male humans it's purposeless and can just be reallocated to better use for/by/helping male humans. And the Jill thing from Its A Sin.... women are the props and bit parts to provide and help in the lives of the more important humans. They don't have lives and feelings of their own, a good female serves others. I won't say woman, because it isn't an expectation LOJ would apply to all of those he would call women, even though he denies that he thinks in a sex based way.

ArabellaScott · 28/01/2021 19:02

I've not seen 'It's a Sin' - would it pass the Bechdel Test?

merrymouse · 28/01/2021 19:05

To be fair, the subject is AIDS affecting gay men in the 1980s, so I wouldn't expect it to.

ArabellaScott · 28/01/2021 19:28

Hmm, maybe not.

Cailleach1 · 28/01/2021 20:55

Just on the topic, I seem to remember reading that women from low income countries (especially African countries) have the highest mortality from Aids? Transmitted by male to female through unprotected sex. Infected by men and also to any children if they become pregnant.

Justhadathought · 28/01/2021 21:01

Precisely!

NiceGerbil · 28/01/2021 21:26

Cailleach1 I think it's about 50/50 globally.

The other thing a lot of people seem unaware of is that hiv/aids was (is?) officially classed as a pandemic. With covid everyone bangs on about Spanish flu and doesn't even think of aids. In the UK I think that's down to it mainly affecting gay men and people who injected drugs. So for others there's a sort of not my problem/ off the radar thing.

There's still no vaccine obviously and it's killed 33 million people worldwide so far. (Just looked it up).

The hypocrisy of lovely Owen knows no bounds.

Here he is sharing a friendly pint with George Galloway.

The same George Galloway who thinks that "trans-friendly wokeness" will bring the end of womanhood.

Dear Owen.
I'm not frightened of you either.
I know you're not interested in my sex.
But I choose to have intimate boundaries against your sex.
I choose not to be naked in a publicly shared changing room with you.
Or anyone of your sex.
I also choose not to compete in sports against you.
Or anyone of your sex.
I choose not to have intimate medical exams by you.
Or anyone of your sex.
And I reject the idea that a woman's political position or women's rights can properly by represented by you.
Or anyone of your sex.
