I love being on HRT so much, but being happy about it is just making me cry more" says Green Party Women's leader

The new chair of Green Party Women, a transwoman going under the name of Kathryn Bristow, one of whose personal pronouns is `fae' (no me neither), is really thrilled at the effects of her HRT (that's where it all is! No shortage for some!) recently tweeted:

twitter.com/KathrynBristow/status/1343259759701618688?s=20

"Just started crying for no particular reason.
It's so wonderful, I've always just wanted to be able to feel my emotions. I love being on HRT so much, but being happy about it is just making me cry more".

The casual and offensive sexist stereotyping is off the scale of course.

A quick glance through her tweets shows absolutely zero interest in er, Green stuff. No tweets about climate change, animal welfare, recycling... anything remotely environmental at all.

I know the Green Party's innate misogyny is nothing new here but I had to vent. They are going from bad to worse. The trouble is, those not active on Twitter or social media are not aware of the danger this Party poses.

I'm not even sure if Kathryn is even transitioned?

And why do so many transwomen have an annoying little `cute' smile in their profile pics? It's just annoying.

I used to have a position of responsibility in the Green Party in the noughties and there was none of this rubbish. We were completely consumed with environmental concerns and animal welfare. People used to make fun of us because we were beardy and sandal clad and unworldly but at least we were authentic.

@SunsetBeetch

Oh FUCK OFF you sexist wanker!

My sentiment entirely.

@EdgeOfACoin

It's long before the days of tweeting but Teresa Gorman, who was then the Tory MP for Billericay, was publicly extolling the virtues of HRT back in the 1980s!

Oh, that's interesting. I wasn't familiar with Teresa Gorman.

From what PPs have said, it sounds as though Gorman was using her position to advocate for higher awareness and availability of HRT. This seems to me like it was related to a specific attempt to help women's health.

It doesn't sound as though Gorman was using her platform to talk about how oestrogen made her weepy and in-touch with emotions.

She was advocating for women. She was furious that so many women were suffering awful menopausal symptoms and osteoporosis and getting no help or support whatsoever. The attitude to middle aged women back then was much, much worse than it is today, and it still isn't great!

Shame the Green Party didn't see fit to make a woman like Gorman head of Green Party Women.

endofthelinefinally · 31/12/2020 11:19

The Green Party are now completely pointless IMO.

On Twitter it is alleged that we ageing Karen’s are jealous of the transwoman’s beauty

I haven't even seen this person's picture but I love it when the gender mob uses that ageist and sexist line. It's so vacuous but very revealing.

Is that what fae thinks the issue is?

Perhaps Kathryn would like to turn faer attention to how pandemic measures disproportionately affect women with caring responsibilities, if fae's on mumsnet?

MichelleofzeResistance · 31/12/2020 11:32

Quite.

A political interest in the issues massively affecting 50% of voters, a willingness to talk about those political issues seen as a bit yucky and explain why they mattered and how this represented inequality and impact, a use of her own platform to further awareness for other women.

Not using her platform to talk about her nails and how lovely a bit of an HTR cry is, or giving the appearance that the start and end of her political career is the wonder of self or a protected characteristic. If you're going to take a political seat from females, either help or get the fuck out of the way. Or have TW seats and get voted in on your lovely nails and personal emotional experiences.

TG was also known for having shaved off her eyebrows and advocating for the castration of rapists. She was described as a maverick. She had her faults and was less than honest about her property dealings, but she did stick up for women and the self employed.

Datun · 31/12/2020 11:44

@NeurotreeWenceslas

Seriously? Tweeting about nails in a pandemic?

Jeeze the narcissism.

About nails and crying as the woman's representative of a political party - all of whom would appear to fondly think it doesn't flush their entire credibility down the loo.

What on earth do they think it looks like? Serious political commentary on women's issues? Or a Very Important Subject beloved of Jackie circa 1972.

With environmental issues very topical, and something that concerns most people, you would think a political party representing them would be harnessing the Zeitgeist, not expelling supporters because they don't want to talk about sparkly nail varnish, ffs.

I succumbed to curiousity on seeing this and clicked the Twitter link. Well.

I shall refrain from making fae cry again, but 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I do wonder about the women who support these people. How can they see this level of rampant sexism and misogyny out in plain sight and be fine with it? There's definitely a frogs-being-boiled-in-an-echo-chamber component to it, (shut up, I like my metaphors like I like my strawberry daiquiris) but surely the handmaidens must have some shreds of self-respect screaming in their heads when they see this?

Passmeabottlemrjones · 31/12/2020 11:54

'Solo poly-amorous'?

Oh aye... HmmWink

SophocIestheFox · 31/12/2020 11:58

The word gets far too much usage these days, and I hesitate to wheel it out now, but this nonsense about “rejecting sex as a concept” really is offensive.

Absurd, sexist bilge of the highest order, and it’s only possible to believe that if you’ve never had your life impacted by your female biology. Like a PP, I can easily be convinced by a good bit of lentil weaving, I’m borderline crunchy and have voted green in the past, but until they stop coming out with this absolute bumwash and get back to the environment, they won’t get my vote.

zzizz · 31/12/2020 12:09

I just can't understand how people don't see the sexism in the entire transgender movement. Its so obvious to me.

"I like 'girly' things so I'm a girl!" - how did this not get ridiculed off the Internet from day one?

JohnMcClane · 31/12/2020 12:41

It's quite a sad and interesting insight really KB feel they can only fully recognise or express emotions now they present as a woman.

A psychologist's wet dream, but really very depressing.

Yup, it’s total male white privilege, right there. I’d like to see Nikki Ali make mincemeat of such statements. But Ms Ali has more important battles to fight, together with another of my sheroes, , Hibo Wardere. Young girls being mutilated can’t “identify” out of brutal FGM practices.

QueenoftheAir · 31/12/2020 13:22

Nimco Ali. Darn autocorrect

And why are political parties on board with this nonsense? I can see the appeal for very old-school Conservatives who prefer neat gender boxes, but the progressives? Why?
BobbinThreadbare123 · 31/12/2020 13:40

Solo-polyamorous? Wanks with either hand?

Chewbecca · 31/12/2020 13:52

Still feeling really cross about this today.

This person really has no right to represent women as a leader of this group. They have no experience growing up with periods, being denied studying practical subjects at school, being expected to become a mother, being assumed to be the secretary / receptionist, having a c section, breastfeeding, having HRT to combat ferocious menopause symptoms, being unable to reach the top shelf in the supermarket, cars (& car safety) being designed for a totally different body to mine. All these things contribute to me being female, not my ability to paint my nails.

I love being on HRT so much, but being happy about it is just making me cry more" says Green Party Women's leader

Sexism is being celebrated. Online, on TV, in schools, in porn.

Rigid gender boxes are normalised. A male elevating the trappings (not traps) of those boxes by inhabiting them, feels like approval to those who can't escape.

I'm sure there is a sense of flattery to all this appropriation. Until you realise it's the opposite.

rednsparkley · 31/12/2020 14:35

Oh the responses to that tweet are just GLORIOUS 😁😁 It seems you are much more able to speak the truth on Twitter if those are anything to go by - I got banned for less about a year ago 🤔

Absolutely- I’ll set my husband on them, he and I make a great tag team that’s had Lib Dems and Labour both tied up in knots over this on the doorstep this past year. They seemed to be under the misapprehension that the point of doorstepping people is to tell them what they ought to think, rather than find out what they actually do think. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing when the LibDem PPC stood on my own doorstep telling me I wasn’t fully informed on biology Confused Mortificado for her, all she could do was wheel out every stonewall cliché in the book.

Labour were not much better but at least managed a lukewarm endorsement that maybe the party could accommodate a divergence of beliefs on the material reality of sex. Woohoo.
