I love being on HRT so much, but being happy about it is just making me cry more" says Green Party Women's leader

The new chair of Green Party Women, a transwoman going under the name of Kathryn Bristow, one of whose personal pronouns is `fae' (no me neither), is really thrilled at the effects of her HRT (that's where it all is! No shortage for some!) recently tweeted:

twitter.com/KathrynBristow/status/1343259759701618688?s=20

"Just started crying for no particular reason.
It's so wonderful, I've always just wanted to be able to feel my emotions. I love being on HRT so much, but being happy about it is just making me cry more".

The casual and offensive sexist stereotyping is off the scale of course.

A quick glance through her tweets shows absolutely zero interest in er, Green stuff. No tweets about climate change, animal welfare, recycling... anything remotely environmental at all.

I know the Green Party's innate misogyny is nothing new here but I had to vent. They are going from bad to worse. The trouble is, those not active on Twitter or social media are not aware of the danger this Party poses.

I'm not even sure if Kathryn is even transitioned?

And why do so many transwomen have an annoying little `cute' smile in their profile pics? It's just annoying.

I used to have a position of responsibility in the Green Party in the noughties and there was none of this rubbish. We were completely consumed with environmental concerns and animal welfare. People used to make fun of us because we were beardy and sandal clad and unworldly but at least we were authentic.

What the actual fuck have I just read?! Honestly I despair. Regressive sexist shit. At least the comments are mainly calling them out on it. Unlike the rest of their feed which makes for depressing reading. Wake up Greens, this is not what the majority of voters are looking for in an environmental party.

RozWatching · 30/12/2020 16:53

I feel for the sensible GP members, I really do, but this shit was inevitable when they started defining people as "self-identifying non-female/male".

Chewbecca · 30/12/2020 17:08

Blimey, I have just stumbled across this and am appalled. Firstly that the lead of a women's group doesn't really know what it is like to be a woman and secondly the tripe on the Twitter feed that would get any serious female politician laughed out. It's outrageous.

endofthelinefinally · 30/12/2020 17:18

I have no sympathy for the green party. They got themselves into this situation, wilfully and with their eyes wide open.

PotholeParadies · 30/12/2020 17:28

And they got themselves into this after the PR disaster that was Aimee Challenor and Aimee's father David 'Baloo' Challenor, rapist.

They should have been reviewing the situation to stop anything similar happening again.

BreatheAndFocus · 30/12/2020 17:32

I think it’s incredibly sad to see the Greens lose their way so much. They should go back to environmental concerns and animal welfare - so badly needed now. They could have done so much.

Apologies for any typos - my girl tears are getting in my eyes a bit tonight. Must get another truckload of tissues for my daily female-y weep.

FreshFreesias · 30/12/2020 17:36

Honestly, I’m revolted and appalled by the Green Party.
It is a danger and a menace to society.

I agree. Sinister.

2bazookas · 30/12/2020 17:44

That warped fantasy notion of what it is to be a woman, perfectly iullustrates why transgenders like Bristow will never pass as one.

Deliriumoftheendless · 30/12/2020 17:48

Is it produced in the same way as HRT? I don’t really know about this.

I ask because I remember way back (before HRT was necessary for me) animal welfare groups complaining about the conditions the pregnant mares were kept in. I don’t know if medical advancement has made horse piss unnecessary.

Is there another way of producing HRT now (because I would be interested in it if it’s not harmful to animals).

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/12/2020 17:49

I look at the fawning responses to tweets like the ones linked above and I just don't get it. As I find myself thinking a million times a day, what happened to critical thinking? Was it always in short supply and we just didn't know because there was no social media for people to make fools of themselves on?

If a person went public with claims to be almost anything else they're manifestly not - e.g. to do with ethnicity or age - they could expect a pretty robust response. What makes this so different?

endofthelinefinally · 30/12/2020 17:52

In the middle of a public health crisis, a global environmental crisis, an economic crisis, tweeting about ones hormones, emotions and manicure is extemely attention seeking and self absorbed. Does this person really think that these things are what are important to women's groups generally and green party women in particular?

bellinisurge · 30/12/2020 17:53

It's not HRT. I struggled to get it for the actual female menopause.
Wanker.

JellySlice · 30/12/2020 18:09

@endofthelinefinally

I worked all my career in health care and had to keep my nails short and unvarnished. Obviously that must mean I am not a proper woman. I did birth 3 dc though. Hmm.
I'm on HRT. Must be a transwoman then.
endofthelinefinally · 30/12/2020 18:12

I can't wear make up or dye my hair because the drugs I am on have knackered my skin. I can't walk unless I wear flat shoes.
Luckily my dh still thinks I am a woman. Phew.

endofthelinefinally · 30/12/2020 18:16

I do cry a lot, but that is due to grief, not hormones. I find this person's comments beyond offensive.

Needmoresleep · 30/12/2020 18:22

Where is the Green Party leadership? Asleep at the wheel?

Chewbecca · 30/12/2020 18:25

delirium HRT used to be made from pregnant horse’s urine but now is made from synthesised yams so is (I believe) vegan friendly.

Deliriumoftheendless · 30/12/2020 18:29

Thanks Chewbecca.

PotholeParadies · 30/12/2020 18:50

@Needmoresleep

Where is the Green Party leadership? Asleep at the wheel?
Sian Berry (co-leader) is apparently fully on board with this.
MichelleofzeResistance · 30/12/2020 18:58

Women's officer, doing something women in a political post wouldn't do in public because embarrassing, derogatory and unhelpful to women, and which would pretty much end a woman in a political post ever being taken seriously, being respected or considered fit for the job.

Thereby demonstrating, TW are TW, who can freely behave as TW and be read by the general public as TW, and benefit in doing so from the male privilege which makes a huge difference. Whatever. If TW can and wish to get away with this kind of behaviour and not being taken seriously, crack on. I'm all for diversity in public posts, and the kind of public image they want is something the TW community get to decide for themselves and deal with the consequences of. But by extension this demonstrates that TW should not be in female posts, taking away these opportunities from females and damaging the very hard won little respect and foothold in public life that they have managed to gain.

FlyingEl · 30/12/2020 19:07

It’s mind-boggling. I have today left the Green Party. Have had my doubts for some time, but having a man as co-chair of Green Party Women was the last straw. I mean, a feminist man would be one thing - we can sure do with more feminists among men - but I’d still not agree with a man as chair of women’s group. A man who says he’s a woman and female? Would he do yoga with us next?? In his/her ‘solo-polyamorous’ capacity? Kathryn’s profile on Twitter is very revealing. I read a lot today about Green Party’s support for trans issues over any other issues; I had not previously realised that there was such a push within the party for everyone to agree that trans women were women with no room for debate. I miss the time when I innocently believed that the Greens were about the environment and staving off climate catastrophe!

RozWatching · 30/12/2020 19:29

Mood swings can be linked to hormonal imbalances, so it makes sense that a trans person with medically altered estrogen/testosterone levels might feel a bit teary. But does the whole world need to hear about it? It's not a sign of womanhood, if that's what they're thinking.

despairenting · 30/12/2020 19:34

In my experience, bursting into tears for seemingly no reason isn't 'feeling your emotions', it's clinical depression Hmm

Winesalot · 30/12/2020 19:34

I think the double standards are appalling. I cannot think that women would respect women who propose to be political leaders tweeting in this fashion. Yet, they are supporting these tweets and yes, some people are calling it brave. They really are down the rabbit hole and cannot see their own hypocrisy.
