If you are on twitter please report this tweet.

Even better please dig for their crowdfunder to challenge Scottish Government redfining women to include men. They are £18000 carrotts down and it would be a great help to them to have tangible help. Three days to go.

[quote Alicethroughtheblackmirror]This isn't directly related to this thread, but has relevance, so thought I'd post here.

Kicking off on Twatter, Zero Tolerance which are a Scottish VAW charity decided to post an article about poor oppressed Eilidh who was terrified to leave the house because of nasty women in FWS and - specifically - Dumbarton councillor and women's pledge convener, Caroline McAllister. The original article was amended after complaints to remove reference to the women's groups.

It has turned out - shock! - that E is not such a fragile flower and has a pretty horrible posting history. A history that should have set alarm bells pealing - especially in a DV charity.

It will be interesting to see what ZT and the papers do.

@nauticant

Just to make clear, the transwoman on the far left isn't all transwomen but a subset, I'd say in particular from the "POV TERFs in my mentions" transwomen.
How is it in any way "clear" that this is 'a subset' of trans women and not simply any and all of us? Every other figure in the image is 'typical' and if what you say is true, there would be a horrified side-eyeing 'good' trans person in the picture, without a beard, a penis, or a knife. The image is deeply offensive, and transphobic, and harmful.

if you check out Zero Tolerance website all their staff have anime pics and vast amount of their funding comes direct from Scottish Gov't so they are another wokus dei handmaiden org. Another depressing women down the toilet moments.

Twitter is full of transwomen holding knives to intimidate non-compliant women

No, it isn't. That is a horrible thing to say.

It is more true to say that Twiiter is full of trans women trying to engage with those who seek to remove our existing rights and misrepresent us as monsters.

And that still doesn't excuse the hateful iconic image of ALL transwomen as bearded perverts that gave some of you "a laugh".

Much like here, GCs on Twitter have little interest in engaging with anyone who might challenge their assumptions and preconceptions about trans people.

As soon as GCs on Twitter realise we are not going to lose our rag and conform to their expectations, or that we aren't going to lick their boots either in an effort to be 'one of the good ones', they literally lose all interest.

Statements like 'twitter is full of transwomen holding knives' are uncritically accepted here as true, and are sadly unremarkable. The odd 'NATALT' platitude is worthless. This is your space, so knock yourselves out, but don't complain that the toxicity is all on one side.

BetsyM00 · 17/11/2020 00:40

I would think trans people are much like any other group of people, some good, bad or indifferent. Some I've had a good laugh with down the pub, some I'm quite frankly terrified of. Some of the scariest TRAs are not even trans.

That's not the point though. Those that are male do not belong in women's spaces or services. And women should have the right to expect this law to be upheld without being compared to murderous racists.

The origin of the cartoon is unknown but I'm more concerned about why prominent members of the governing party thought it was in any way acceptable to like and retweet.

Escapeplanning · 17/11/2020 01:08

Both cartoons are puerile.

So is the boot licking comment. As Betty says, those that are male do not belong in women's spaces or services.

It's a shame this board gets dragged into these appalling sideshows. I get the impression that they are literally the objective for a few posters.

It's really not, it's a board for discussion of women's rights.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/11/2020 01:27

It is true. Twitter tends to be full of extremists and attention seekers. I can post some pictures if you like, but you can try www.terfisaslur.com and ovarit.com/domain/photos.google.com (link to google drive archive of violent TRA threats to GC women)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/11/2020 01:30

It is more true to say that Twiiter is full of trans women trying to engage with those who seek to remove our existing rights and misrepresent us as monsters.

We're talking about the kinds of violent fantasy tweets I've just posted links to, not people "trying to engage". Do you really want to defend them?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/11/2020 01:32

And for the record, comparing women's rights groups to the Ku Klux Klan is hyperbolic, offensive, inaccurate and a deliberate attempt to smear.

nauticant · 17/11/2020 10:00

Statements like 'twitter is full of transwomen holding knives' are uncritically accepted here as true

As I wrote above, a while back among trans people and trans activists on twitter there was a popular meme called "POV ur a terf in my mentions". This is some of the stuff that was all over the place:

radfemrebecca.com/pov-ur-a-terf/

The point of the photos was that some trans people and trans activists were so upset whenever they saw a tweet that they viewed as being by a "TERF", ie a woman, they wanted to send a message. The message was to show what the woman would see if the person who posted the photo was able to confront them in the real world, that is the woman would see the person using a weapon to intimidate them or would see the person attacking them with the weapon. The photos in that link are the tip of an iceberg.

It really doesn't help the trans cause to pretend stuff like this doesn't exist or isn't common. Doing this protects misogynists who threaten violence to intimidate women.

However, it's one thing to be in denial to maintain your own world view but it's not right to prevent others from seeing what actually goes up on social media. I don't think MNHQ should cooperate in this by brushing this stuff under the carpet.

MadBadDaddy · 17/11/2020 20:34

So in response to the comments since my last post:

  1. TW are allowed in women's spaces, always have been, and are protected by law (so the law is, actually 'being upheld'). These rights are now under attack, now that you've realised the GRA reforms had nothing to do with "self-id" the way you thought they did.
  2. dismissive and both-sides-ism, and as per #1.
  3. Doubles down on a grossly unfair generalisation, from a poster that once referred to me unapologetically as "it"
  4. Dismisses the idea that there are any intelligent, non-threatening TRAs and decides that what they are talking about is what I am talking about, starts argument with self.
  5. Arguable point about OP that will never in a million years be objectively argued here
  6. pure DARVO

...and not once on this thread has there been anything more than the most mealy-mouthed acknowledgement that the depiction of a PERSON (not a GROUP) as monstrous and obscene is hateful, harmful or reprehensible, as opposed to "a laugh".
If you are all such wonderful caring people why should i even have to be here moaning at you about it?

Escapeplanning · 17/11/2020 21:01

Remind me, is this the poster calling Debbie Hayton a boot licker?
