So Canada has created this ultra-woke mythology about itself, but the reality is very, very different.

I lived and worked there for a stint and have family there. They don't see themselves as woke at all, they see themselves as nice, which is a very different thing. Most Canadians are pretty conservative, even if they vote otherwise.

Re: Yaniv - Can only hope that the continued vexatious complaints will result in Yaniv being banned from raising any further complaints.

Another who never thought I'd be rooting for a beauty pageant. Jessica Yaniv is a vile bully and I can't believe that there isn't some law to prosecute Yaniv for all their time wasting court cases and bullying tendencies.

Yaniv is the gift which keeps on giving. Yaniv's actions are of course completely logical consequences of the most extreme trans activist arguments but nobody was supposed to take this to such extremes.

The Post Millenial is a right wing news site - think somewhere between the Express and the Sun, as far as I can gather. And the Canadian right - the sort who voted for Harper - are anything but woke.

The problem is that the Canadian right are also science denying, climate-change denialist, anti free-speech authoritarians. (Under the Harper goverment, all government scientists in Canada were gagged from speaking not only to the media, but even at scientific conferences, without first having their contributions vetted by Harper's political commissars).

So Canada is in the unenviable position of flipping between ultra-woke (but corrupt) liberals and full-on right wing authoritarians (also corrupt). It's not quite in the Trump v. Biden league yet, but that's not saying much.

I do get the impression from my Trudeau worshipping friends that some of this (at least) comes from the Harper government being so bloody awful that they'll hold their noses and clap the telescope to their blind eye over just about anything bad that happens on Trudeau's watch because they think the alternative would be so much worse.

Trudeau's somehow clinging on with a minority government, but I think he'll go at the next election.

Er, not even close. While the recent Conservative leadership has tried to ape some of the insane US right wing tactics, it (thankfully) hasn't taken off in the majority of the country. The Liberals (Trudeau) are much closer to centre, despite Trudeau's showmanship and the few odd policies. The NDP are the most 'left' of the three main parties but no one would call them 'woke'.

Canadians tend to vote for policy over party. The country very much benefits from not having a Fox News/Murdoch influence driving divisive politics.

I think it's both. Yaniv likes the attention, negative as much as positive, as well, and particularly forcing people to validate. The second part is the most concern, though, absolutely.

I'm not laughing. But Canada needs to deal with it's mess. This type of thing is precisely what their laws have catered for. And it's precisely what feminists warned them of. I very much hope that the beauty pageant finds a way to ensure that women and girls are protected from known predators, but to be honest, they've made it very hard to do so.

Is there a mechanism? Anyone? Can a known predator be excluded? We know it doesn't work in prison - known sex offenders, violent ones, will still be admitted to women's shelters and prisons and remand housing.

My guess is they know they will have to place him in a womens prison and abolish the mother and baby program while they are there. .
