Joe Biden issues new statement on the transgender debate

In a Q&A he said he'll reverse all 'anti trans' executive orders if he becomes president. He revealed again that he doesn't really know anything about the trans debate but implied he will still give campaigners everything they want twitter.com/DailyCaller/status/1316913590620852224?s=20

I didn’t see anything in the link that disproves the laptop story. What are you asserting here?

This really bothers me though:

We don’t want to incentivize hacking by allowing Twitter to be used as distribution for possibly illegally obtained materials,” the platform stated

So why did they allow links to Trump’s taxes? That wasn’t legally got (and we should know his tax details so I agree with letting the story go out there!). And the Snowden files let Americans know that the NSA was spying on them and we should be able to discuss the implications of that, though the material was illegally obtained. Same for Podesta’s emails.

Journalists break stories all the time by using materials that have a dodgy provenance, but the public service it provides should be obvious. The government won’t just let us know about their malfeasance, after all!

Excellent post. The aim is total narrative control. Consistency is another casualty. Along with freedom of speech.

I'm an American and Biden is leaps and bounds better than Trump. Our own security agencies, our environmental and health agencies have been warning and whistle blowing for years regarding what Trump administration is doing to destroy our civil governance. Our House found him guilty of crimes, our IRS are auditing him for fraud...our CIA warns him repeatedly about threats from foreign countries and he IGNORES them (his own lawyer was at risk for Russian influence). Trump is a danger to the world and I'm not naive to think that him backing a one-off bathroom bill is enough to consider voting for him. My god, he's already packing our courts with the most conservative anti-woman judges. Women in America have already lost rights over their own reproductive decisions. It's only going to get worse. Doctors in some states can now go to jail for having an abortion. How is that acceptable? There is NOTHING pro-woman about Trump. if Americans don't vote for Biden, it's giving the vote to Trump because of the way our 1-party, electoral system works.

Lots of word soup going on ....

The USA has a Choice : Biden or Trump

So voters have to consider
Healthcare
Education
Housing
Climate Change
Democracy
Taxation

and walk away from conspiracy theories and memes and viral posts

Republicans have tried to suppress turnout for the last few decades
if Biden wins there is a chance that the USA will come up to electoral standards it demands of every other country
if Trump wins the current gerrymandering corruption will be set into legislation

along with the destruction of women's healthcare and education rights

its a binary choice between two old men at the heads of parties that are each dysfunctional
but have different paymasters

*providing an abortion. Docs can go to jail for this in some US states if a heartbeat is detected at the time of the abortion.

Floisme · 16/10/2020 18:52

@nauticant

Unwelcome as they were, the shitshows of the 2016 Referendum and US presidential election taught me how wrong I was to assume there's a right way to vote and if people don't do it then they're horrible people or in some sense moral vacuums.

You can get away with this for so long but at some point people will reject it and the harder you try to force them the more firmly their rejection will be. Even if it's to their long term disadvantage.

Same here. The Brexit referendum came as a real wake up for me. I had honestly thought everyone I knew was a remainder. I was so wrong. It's a lesson I hope I'll never forget.

Your simplistic, partisan attempt to reduce the choice facing US voters to good versus evil is unpersuasive. You don't seem able to grasp that people have different political viewpoints on a range of issues; the economy, taxation, freedom of speech, law and order, the importance of upholding the constitution. You don't seem to understand that in a democracy, voters have a diversity of views and express them in an election. Rigid views and a conviction you occupy the moral highground? After 2016, one would expect a Democrat voter to have developed some insight on how 'basket of deplorables' is a way to alienate millions of voters.

More Bovary word soup.

There is a choice
Make it
and sleep well with your choice
because it will affect your daughters and grand daughters

Everything is nuance
each policy has to be balanced out against the rest

our CIA warns him repeatedly about threats from foreign countries and he IGNORES them

He should ignore the CIA, they should be disbanded and scattered to the four winds as Kennedy put it. I’d get my ass into gear and vote for (almost) anyone who promised this!

Since when did progressives trust the CIA?!

Women in America have already lost rights over their own reproductive decisions. It's only going to get worse. Doctors in some states can now go to jail for having an abortion

Citation please. Roe vs Wade is still the law of the land, you can’t put doctors into jail for performing legal abortions.

I sleep well. I will never align myself with those who want to dismantle the defining features of liberal Western democracy. Those are the Enlightenment values which are currently under relentless attack by people who don't believe in freedom of speech, rational debate. Or even external reality. I will never vote for any party colonised by the Robespierre faction.

How do you feel about Trump rallies putting nooses round the neck of effigies of journalists @BovaryX?

BelleHathor · 16/10/2020 19:38

@DameFanny

How do you feel about Trump rallies putting nooses round the neck of effigies of journalists *@BovaryX*?
Do you have proof of this? Never heard of this.
BovaryX · 16/10/2020 19:41

I have never heard of it either. But how do you feel about the death of David Dorn Damefanny? How do you feel about the white thugs burning down businesses and causing mayhem in cities across the US?

7Days · 16/10/2020 19:44

This is the crux isn't it.

So much to consider, and both candidates are....flawed, shall we say. In a flawed system, seemingly without a common foundation that they can point to and say Fact. Reality. Let's work from here.

Don't envy American voters.

DameFanny · 16/10/2020 19:45

Sorry @BelleHathor you're right - I was mistakenly conflating the pre election rally - www.thedailybeast.com/the-man-behind-journalist-rope-tree with the noose brought to an anti Lockdown rally this year

DameFanny · 16/10/2020 19:47

I think charges have been brought @BovaryX, unlike for the killers of Breonna Taylor and so many more.

BovaryX · 16/10/2020 19:49

@DameFanny
How do you feel about this? Do you have any understanding about the damage that has been done by left wing 'activists?' Some of the palest, most privileged people on the planet? Why do you imagine that crimes of adjacency only work in one direction? If that's your tactic? You better take a long hard look at what's happening on Team Robespierre.

*"You don't see Trump trying to control the media the conversation and the populace? You haven't seen him crying fake news when people report his own previous words? You haven't seen him threaten Twitter and Facebook? You haven't seen him trying to get people to boycott the Washington Post? Bigging up Breitbart and refusing to take questions from established news outlets with fact checkers on staff? Stopping the daily press briefing when it became obvious people would analyse what he said rather than just print what he wanted?"

And let's not forget the many times Trump has called journalists "enemies of the people" and openly encouraged violence against them. There were T-shirts seen at Trump rallies portraying journalists with a noose around their necks. It doesn't get more fascist than that.*

Yes, fair enough. Trump is openly awful.

America is genuinely stuck, as far as I can see, between two really shit choices. What concerns me most is their global impact. So yes, Trump will probably have some terrible ramifications for US citizens, but so will Biden, in a different way, and at least it seems to me that Trump seems less inclined to bomb other countries.

I hate to sound defeatist, but I have no idea how the US will get itself out of the horrible mess it's in (I say this quite aware of the messes the UK is currently enthusiastically digging itself into). Scary, scary times.

Delphinium20 · 16/10/2020 19:51

@BovaryX not sure if you are eligible to vote in the US election but if you are, I'm game to play.

Progressives (of which I am one) may not trust the CIA all the time, but does that mean that career civil servants are lying to the President about Russian interference with our elections and our government? Our FBI recently stopped a plot to kidnap the Governor of Michigan. Should she, a leftist, said, "nah, I don't believe you?"

Hilary Clinton said the "basket of deplorables" in reference to the type of white supremacists who support Trump. Like Clinton, I find those people deplorable. They are the same type that plotted to kidnap a female governor this month. Sounds like Hilary was right.

The left has an issue with cancel culture, but we still have freedom of the press in the US and there is no liberal, progressive or moderate who thinks we should abolish our First Amendment Rights.

There are 21 states in the US where a doctor may go to jail for performing abortions. 16 states if abortion is past the 20-22 week mark, 5 states if abortion is past the 24 week mark. Alabama is when the heartbeat is detected.

@BovaryX I live in one of "those cities" you mentioned. You are welcome to visit me here once COVID is over. If it wasn't outing, I'd share our neighborhood social sites that described those "thugs" and how we handed together to chase them away from our businesses at night and cleaned up the messes in the morning. I'd introduce you to the peaceful protestors because they are my friends, family and neighbors. If you lived here, you'd know it wasn't the leftist burning our communities, you'd see that it was the white supremacists with their guns and MAGA hats and out of state license plates and their out of town (mostly southern) accents. You are not correctly informed as to what is happening in the US.

DameFanny · 16/10/2020 20:01

You're suggesting I read works by people who think the race conversation is dominated by victimhood and that 'wokeness' is equivalent to Stalin's purges? Can't imagine why...

BovaryX · 16/10/2020 20:08

@Delphinium20
If you are a 'progressive,' can you explain the attack on freedom of speech, debate and diversity of political viewpoints which is coming from the left? That is directed against black Conservatives? Democrats seem to think they have some inalienable right to the votes of people based on skin colour. Nope. They do not. November will be interesting. Especially after the 'fiery but peaceful' antics by Antifa. I know people who voted Obama and then voted Trump. But hey. Since that doesn't conform to the tedious Manichean narrative running on Twitter, that demographic is ignored. Maybe pretending that every Republican voter is a 'white supremacist' plays well on Twitter. But it strikes me as a seriously limited take on US politics. Neither is pretending Roe v Wade is about to be overturned.
