Brighton TRAs bullying female small business owner

Urgh. This is happening in my home town and it’s shit.

Happy Maki is a small, vegan cafe and takeaway. It’s a very ethical business. All about sustainability and green energy. They plant a tree and feed a child for each wrap made. It’s a gift economy and the food is free with a suggested donation. All very hippy. You get the idea.

A FTM trans person approached the female owner of Happy Maki and asked for support in fundraising for their top surgery. I believe they wanted a poster in the window asking for money. The owner refused. When pressed the owner said it was against her religious beliefs - she is a follower of the Divine Truth which admittedly sounds a bit ‘out there’ but not entirely unexpected given the nature of her business.

Anyway the TRAs have really gone to town and are posting in every Brighton based Facebook group, Instagram and Twitter accusing the owner of Transphobia and calling for her to apologise:

twitter.com/makiunhappy/status/1314261939833446400?s=21

They seem to be getting a lot of support and gaining a lot of traction too with many saying they are now going to boycott the business.

I’m upset about this for a lot of reasons. Obviously the female owner being bullied and harassed in this way and them encouraging people to email her. The lovely takeaway losing business. It’s also pretty tone deaf to attack the hospitality sector in the midst of a global pandemic for not supporting one individual’s elective, life changing surgery.

Anyway, the reason I’m posting here is in solidarity with the owner Anna. And if any of you lovely lot are nearby then consider getting a Happy Maki takeaway. The food is delicious and I’m sure they could do with some support right now.

In the best top 5 posts in this whole thread is the previous poster correctly comparing to fund raising activities as has happened during the Troubles.

"In the statement from the workers that is linked from the first post in this thread."

I can see it says she openly expressed her views in an email in response to Henry's, also in the "impromptu" meeting where the staff "exempted her beliefs", and through another email and in a video after that meeting.
It also says she "theorised" about bisexuality and has openly expressed it to staff in the workplace but doesn't say when or how often so it could refer to the previous incidents, could it not?
It could also be that none of the staff were remotely aware of her views until they encouraged their friend to email in the first instance, which I would argue they wouldn't have done if she'd been "very vocal" about her beliefs.
I believe you are speculating and exaggerating

The previous incidents were her expressing her views about trans people. The statements about bisexuality are alleged to include her saying it was a result of unresolved trauma.

It could also be that none of the staff were remotely aware of her views until they encouraged their friend to email in the first instance, which I would argue they wouldn't have done if she'd been "very vocal" about her beliefs.

It's possible, but she is quite clear in her letter that these beliefs are new, which is presumably why she didn't air them before.

DeliciouslyFemale · 17/10/2020 16:50

Shall I tell you a TRA secret? Quite often we'll be talking to someone ambivalent over GC things who will say but it's just some women with reasonable concerns, it's not about transphobia. That's when we send them a link to this forum. And they come back and go oh fuck, I see what you mean, that's fucking batshit. So yes, the more lurkers and sunlight the better.

Well that’s going to backfire on you, since you’ve done nothing but lie about and twist what this young woman has said. Thank you for sending people here, as they will no doubt stick around and realise what is really going on. The more visitors you send our way the better. I’ll even add this handy thread, so they can delve further.

Sorry, I meant to say that this could have just been referring to her blog post which was in response to the Unhappy Maki campaign.

I still have yet to see any specific claim to her "very vocal beliefs" that you mention which you stated, numerous times, I'm told

jj1968 you also said “ And perhaps if she'd been less eager to share her beliefs with employees and customers then none of this would have happened.”
No-one has claimed Henry was a customer and there doesn’t seem to be any specific evidence that she was eager to share her beliefs with her staff either, more that Henry shared her beliefs with them and then they ambushed her to talk about them and keep hounding her about them too

Eyesopening

This is how extortionists operate.

Those who operate such money demanding rackets don't see themselves as such; it's all about "The protection" "The Cause" "The bread".

Religious extortionists have operated across European nations for centuries also.

Those of the "right ideology" receive "protection" from "the correct ideology proponents" and do not have to pay "extra taxes" or have their homes and businesses trashed.

This is well documented amongst traditional historians, sociologists, religious leaders and archivists.

Modern archivists are recording the same to go into traditional files.

Very heartening to read the comments on unhappymaki's twitter.

The more people exposed to these psychotic entitled lying little shits the bettter.

Be kind my arse.

PurpleHoodie · 17/10/2020 17:10

"There are currently no known outstanding effects for the Theft Act 1968, Section 21"

Well worth another read and mention.

BTW.

Are there not people openly stating on Brighton Vegan Facebook pages, and other open social media platforms that they are going to (as a pre-meditated act) steal from her, her business, staff and the children benefiting from her charity-led-business?

FairFriday · 17/10/2020 17:10

I don't know where you've got this bonkers obsession about Posie and Sky News from. I made a couple of comments pointing out youtube may have removed that two hour cranky video someone made because it was full of copyright violations. I never mentioned Posie.

You said sky News were very likely pursuing a group called State Media because it made a documentary showing one of the clips from sky News of Posie showing up Harrop.

You said sky News would be very likely getting them to take down the entire video because it infringed on their copyright.

I imagine what you were attempting to do is deny that any transactivists were trying to get an incriminating video taken down by, really rather daftly, claiming it was actually the sky News legal team.

An MO which you have repeated over and over, on this very thread.

I'm doing what TRAs are always recommending, and educating people who are reading this thread.

Winesalot · 17/10/2020 17:15

The entire gamut of ideas, all the way from A to B.

I have noticed as this thread continues it seems to be more ‘shit boss / forcing employees to leave their jobs and livelihood’ followed by ‘phobia’, then back to ‘shit boss’ followed by ‘phobia’. It feels like deja vu.

@Datun It wasn't just the Posie clip which I don't think I mentioned. Almost that entire video was made up of other people's intellectual property, so when it got down I speculated if that was the reason why.
Datun · 17/10/2020 17:21

In case anyone doesn't know what video I'm talking about, here is the link. It's incredibly informative. And has been viewed thousands of times, despite jj's predictions.

Interestingly, YouTube twice asks you if you want to watch it. It doesn't quite say you transphobic bigot, but I expect it wants to.

Escapeplanning · 17/10/2020 17:22

How did one poster manage to suck all this attention away from a woman onto themselves?

I think by now rolling in the mud with pigs comes to mind.

And I'm sure everybody has seen the particular clip that I'm speaking of, from sky News, but just in case you haven't, here it is.
