Brighton TRAs bullying female small business owner

Urgh. This is happening in my home town and it’s shit.

Happy Maki is a small, vegan cafe and takeaway. It’s a very ethical business. All about sustainability and green energy. They plant a tree and feed a child for each wrap made. It’s a gift economy and the food is free with a suggested donation. All very hippy. You get the idea.

A FTM trans person approached the female owner of Happy Maki and asked for support in fundraising for their top surgery. I believe they wanted a poster in the window asking for money. The owner refused. When pressed the owner said it was against her religious beliefs - she is a follower of the Divine Truth which admittedly sounds a bit ‘out there’ but not entirely unexpected given the nature of her business.

Anyway the TRAs have really gone to town and are posting in every Brighton based Facebook group, Instagram and Twitter accusing the owner of Transphobia and calling for her to apologise:

twitter.com/makiunhappy/status/1314261939833446400?s=21

They seem to be getting a lot of support and gaining a lot of traction too with many saying they are now going to boycott the business.

I’m upset about this for a lot of reasons. Obviously the female owner being bullied and harassed in this way and them encouraging people to email her. The lovely takeaway losing business. It’s also pretty tone deaf to attack the hospitality sector in the midst of a global pandemic for not supporting one individual’s elective, life changing surgery.

Anyway, the reason I’m posting here is in solidarity with the owner Anna. And if any of you lovely lot are nearby then consider getting a Happy Maki takeaway. The food is delicious and I’m sure they could do with some support right now.

jj1968 where have you found evidence of the owner's "very vocal beliefs"? I can only, so far, see mention of it from the PRIVATE email to Henry and from the meeting where some staff ambushed her into talking about.
Also, where do you find that Henry was a customer? I've only seen that there was an email, nothing about being a customer prior to that

People have been asking jj for a link to this for days.

@SapphosRock

Yes all wrapped up in seaweed. Delicious, vegan, gluten free and very hearty. Nowt wrong with a crisp sandwich but these are a different league I'm afraid.
Ooh you’re making me hungry - they sound amazing! Wishing I didn’t live about 6 hours away otherwise I’d be straight in for one of those!! I love seaweed and have to eat gluten free.

Not just 'very vocal beliefs', but, according to jj Ramming offensive beliefs down workers throats and then telling them to suck it up, leave or be fired when they complain.

@PurpleHoodie

CPS/GOV UK website.

Terrorism

Terrorism is the use or threat of action, both in and outside of the UK, designed to influence any international government organisation or to intimidate the public. It must also be for the purpose of advancing a political, religious, racial or ideological cause.

"...or ideological cause..."

It gets better. How are they intending to intimidate the public or influence an international government organisation with their collective statement?

You missed off the next bit btw

Examples include:

serious violence against a person or damage to property,
endangering a person's life (other than that of the person committing the action),
creating a serious risk to the health or safety of the public or a section of the public,
action designed to seriously interfere with or seriously to disrupt an electronic system.

using social media to ask people to complain about a local business

Fuck you're right lol, call the anti-terror cops, maybe they'll shoot someone.

jj appears to be single-handedly, representing the whole trans ideology.

The entire gamut of ideas, all the way from A to B.

It would appear not, and yes.

LoafEater · 17/10/2020 15:17

What nasty little shits these workers are! Just taken a look at the website and they have 6 vacancies. Can’t imagine they will have trouble filling the positions in the middle of a pandemic, while the people that left sit in their bedsits on UC feeling smug.

Heading to Brighton for a day out soon so will deffo get lunch there, looks delicious.

If anything else, it's opened the eyes of many of us to how a small-medium business can financially, alternatively be run.

I like it.

Posting the link to the owner of HappyMaki's blog post again for people reading who are confused. It explains everything.

I'm aware that this is one side of a story but the single thing people on both sides of this are in agreement about is that she is honest to a fault (hence the issue in the first place). It's a long read and having read it you will be able to draw several conclusions amonst which, that this woman is meticluous, honest, thoughtful, kind and respectful.

PurpleHoodie · 17/10/2020 15:21

GCHQ (not to be mistaken for MNHQ - giggle) learn everyday of terrorist fundraising activities.

A £ million here.
£2000 there.

Also HMRC funny enough.....

Shouldn't that be "from A to A"?

doublehalo · 17/10/2020 15:23

Reading jj's posts reminds me of that old quip about Hollywood 'Hello', he lied.

Anyone from Gingerbeer here? I'm reminded of an equinine person from those boards.

nevernotstruggling · 17/10/2020 15:27

There's not a single supportive reply on that Twitter thread though

Oh, that's brilliant. I haven't heard that.

EyesOpening · 17/10/2020 15:30

I've just found a comment by UNhappy Maki on their facebook page saying that indeed Henry is GOOD FRIENDS with ALL THE STAFF at HM and they thought Anna would be able to provide support which would only lead me to believe that they did not think she was a terrible boss or knew of her "very vocal beliefs" unless they it was some sort of set-up

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/10/2020 15:30

I've heard it as "Hello" he explained, in a different context.

Mandalalorianna · 17/10/2020 15:34

I'm not vegan, but I always make beeline for their little on William's Green at Glastonbury 😁

Anna says in her letter she didn't belive in spirits until recently. It sounds like she's joined some bonkers cult run by a bloke who claims to be Jesus and has been banging on about her new beliefs at work as the recently converted often do.

Personally I think they'd have been better off focussing on the biphobia from a workplace perspective but if they are friends with Harry that may explain why they've wanted to highlight the letter. People stick up for their mates, it's a being kind thing, you lot probably wouldn't get it.

NellieElly · 17/10/2020 15:46

Ahhh - the crux of the argument: Just be kind...
