Green Party Women need your help TODAY

Green Party Women has been doing a grand job championing women in the party, knowing that #sexmatters and providing great resources to support and encourage women to participate in politics.

Today the current committee is up for election and under threat of a take-over by a group that's single concern appears to be self-ID for transwomen - although trans folks have their own voice within the party in LGBTIQA+ Greens. They want the women's group too!

PLEASE REGISTER TO VOTE BY 13.30 TODAY. You need to be:

PLEASE SIGN UP TO VOTE NOW - list of good candidates standing will be posted this afternoon. Voting closes Sun eve.

My friend's DS is in the Young Greens group. He thought it was hilarious that the men and boys in that group and some other groups were going to swamp the voting system by claiming to be women or gender variant of woman. Apparently, they did exactly that and lied their way to ousting the GC and neutral women from the committee.

The men who voted in a women 'only election have no integrity although they do have misogyny and entitlement in abundance.

There should be a way of finding out exactly how many men voted and their names too, although I'm quite sure that even if sharp practices were alleged, the anti-women brigade who run the GPEW with a vice-like grip would prevent any such investigation.

OhHolyJesus · 28/12/2020 22:56

I feel for Emma, ovaries of steel that one. The vote was tight but it's done now and I do support those staying to go another round. I just have other areas of focus and there's only so much I can manage and I won't give my money to what has descended into deep dark misogyny and is prioritising over their very purpose.

It's ok, there's still time, not much but there's still time.

Manderleyagain · 28/12/2020 23:05

Greeniefingers if ordinary members knew that they might wouldnt be pleased. But then if people don't vote...

Winesalot · 28/12/2020 23:21

Oh dear. Is this the new chair that tells people on twitter that using the word female is dehumanizing?

And that ‘HRT’ is wonderful and they are able to now cry and be emotional for no reason?

Wonderfully professional outlook. Big concern that the word female (which they have called themselves) is a dehumanising word for them.

GreenieFingers · 28/12/2020 23:45

I'd give a lot to know the numbers of men who self-ID'd as a woman in order to sway the voting figures.

But This Never Happens, does it? The very idea that men could possibly abuse self-ID for their own purposes........... Who could possibly have seen that coming?

Needmoresleep · 29/12/2020 00:12

The climate emergency is of overriding importance, and something we need everyone to pull together on.

So what male idiots decide it is a jolly jape to use the rules to vote as women, and in doing so undermine their own party.

I actually don’t get all this intersectionality. Afaik Kathryn is female, young Green, LGQT+++, BAME and possibly more. So start with allies from one group and build from there so you control the lot.

Is it going to be that Carrie Symonds is our best shot of getting some meaningful green policies? Not to knock her efforts, but really......

God, that's depressing. Misogynist, dishonest and antidemocratic -- how the hell did the Green Party turn into this?

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 29/12/2020 00:42

Afaik Kathryn is female -- no, a transwoman.

Needmoresleep · 29/12/2020 01:28

Yes but as far as green intersectionality groups go, they qualify for Green Women as well as others.

It then seems easy to lever one position or set of support to another. Name recognition etc. I assume that’s how Aimee Challenor get as far as standing for the deputy leadership.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 29/12/2020 08:58

The "do you identify as" gatekeeping was ridiculous. You literally could just say yes and vote.

And 400 ish votes isn't a lot.

highame · 29/12/2020 09:14

What does "no compromise" mean in terms of party politics, highame? I'm frustrated, as I expected to be, that the GP is now a lost cause and the compromise is, expecting a change when the tactics are already very clear, the take over of a small party. Let the take over happen, that's where the sunlight is. When the GP dismantles, pick it up and bring it back to life. That's what I mean

ArabellaScott · 29/12/2020 09:46

I think I Agree, highame. Let the GP become the TRA party and see how it plays out. It will become a handy holding pen for Aimee Challenor, Patrick Harvie, Mridhul Wadhwa etc.

I do admire the women staying to fight but I'm not sure if 'sunk costs' are worth it.

WeAreGerbil · 29/12/2020 10:20

There's been an "Ornella C Knight" posting on the GPW Facebook page. Strangely nearly an anagram of Challenor, and Aimee is now Aimee Knight. Strange coincidence or something else?

aliasundercover · 29/12/2020 10:42

Well the Green Party have just made my decision at the next election a little easier.

Needmoresleep · 29/12/2020 10:47

I would actively support an environmental single issue party, and I think others would as well.

It’s not just TWAW. The Greens seem to have got weighed down with a bunch of nice to have, left wing policies, with no acknowledgement of funding or compromise. I found Sian Berry extraordinary. She spoke about achievements, all because they had ‘found some money’, as if real life is some sort of la-la make believe land where things happen if you are nice and smile a lot.

Environmental action needs to happen through mainstream politics not just some type of student politics where the boys get together to dream up silly pranks on the women. A one issue party can make that happen.

Think LGB Alliance and Stonewall.

CrossPurposes · 29/12/2020 10:51

I was steaming as I clicked on that and the instructions were basically suck it up if you want to vote.
Passmeabottlemrjones · 29/12/2020 10:58

Wow, I have only just caught up with this on Twitter, WTF?!

And Kathryn Bristow, a male, telling women how they should and shouldn't describe themselves (the word female is 'dehumanising'?!)

Twitter in general is pretty wild at the moment, I guess it's because everyone is at home!

NeurotreeWenceslas · 29/12/2020 18:07

Oooh will look
Winesalot · 29/12/2020 18:48

That went down very well. But also the one ‘estrogen so crying....’

testing987654321 · 29/12/2020 20:30

I particularly like the person who asked if it was a spoof account.

ColourMagic · 30/12/2020 11:47

Kathryn Bristow and their multicolored sparkly fingernails:

"Painted them on Christmas Eve, so a bit chipped now, but got the claws out and they say trans rights."

mobile.twitter.com/KathrynBristow/status/1344082992717844487

Pressing ecological issues? Women's Rights? Nah. Painted fingernail "claws" scratching for trans rights.

JiggeryWokery · 31/12/2020 12:08

I had a look back over Kathryn Bristow's last 100 tweets. 7 were about environmental issues. For comparison I looked at Emma Bateman's - 30 of the last 100 were about the environment.

ArabellaScott · 31/12/2020 12:29

What has Kathryn Bristow done in terms of environmental activism/work? On what basis is Bristow an officer?

GreenieFingers · 13/01/2021 00:01

@ArabellaScott
KB has no interest in environmental issues although may well have to appear to have at least a superficial interest from now onwards.

There was a recent Green Party Women zoom event to discuss how to get more women into politics and to share the experiences of women who are currently Councillors and candidates for parliamentary elections. KB's only input was two questions asking what GPW were going to be doing for trans and non-binary rights. It says it all, really.

ArabellaScott · 13/01/2021 09:01

Indeed it does. Surely other members can see how this is motivated?
