Green Party Women need your help TODAY

Green Party Women has been doing a grand job championing women in the party, knowing that #sexmatters and providing great resources to support and encourage women to participate in politics.

Today the current committee is up for election and under threat of a take-over by a group that's single concern appears to be self-ID for transwomen - although trans folks have their own voice within the party in LGBTIQA+ Greens. They want the women's group too!

I would guess that the election for chair of GP Women has been won by the person in the Twitter link below (who appears to compare JK Rowling's writing to Hitler's Hmm) though I haven't seen any confirmation.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 26/12/2020 06:20

I haven't heard results yet but I believe a lot of tras self identified as women (there was no gatekeeping) and voted for the non GC candidates.

DieHardIsAXmasMovie · 26/12/2020 07:42

I'm sorry, but if that's true, then the Greens deserve it really.

The left always eats itself Xmas Sad

OneEpisode · 27/12/2020 12:04

But sunlight if Kathryn wins.

FestiveGreenery · 28/12/2020 12:34

So Kathryn is now co-chair with Emma Bateman (GC)?????

How's that going to work?

The Opa vote results are hard to follow but it looks like mixed results so the "Be kind except not to GC women" candidates outnumber the ones who know what a woman is but Emma is not on her own as a few of the others got re-elected.

"Of the 806 voters in this election, 432 cast ballots"

That's totally swingable, either way. I shall stay a member and plot for the future!

Congrats Emma and let's be kind, congrats to all the others too. Let's see what you're made of.

testing987654321 · 28/12/2020 12:57

Do you have links to the results?

FestiveGreenery · 28/12/2020 13:03

I got an email from OpaVote with a link. Came at 11.30 today. I'm relctant to post the link in case it has any id in the url but I guess everyone who voted will be sent a link.

Catmaiden · 28/12/2020 13:19

Yep I've had my results email, too.

Not sure I can face staying in the Green Party, with KB as GPW co chair, tbh. Even though Emma also was elected ( yes, how is that going to work?)

When will the GPEW remember it is meant to be all about the Environment and the Climate crisis we all face, I wonder? Not just Trans rights to push into any space previously reserved for Women?

testing987654321 · 28/12/2020 13:51

Ah, okay. I'm not a member so was just interested in confirmation.

The Green Party has got a serious problem if they won't let women run its women's group.

highame · 28/12/2020 13:51

You kept telling us we just needed to join the gp and all would be well. Turned out fine Xmas Hmm didn't it. Time for no compromise. The only good thing is that they're not dismantling a party (Liberals) with good historic roots.

ArabellaScott · 28/12/2020 14:32

Holy blooming moly.

Well, I'm sorry to see you end like this, Green Party.

FestiveGreenery · 28/12/2020 14:33

What does "no compromise" mean in terms of party politics, highame?

Not vote? Vote Tory?

If people have got the energy to try and change things from the inside of the party, why not? I admire the women in other parties who keep plugging away too.

This is not as bad a result as I was expecting and KBs success may bring attention to the debate out in wider Green land. I'm surprised how few people vote in Green elections. Anyone know what turnout is like in other parties?

MindTheMinotaur · 28/12/2020 16:00

Well, I hope Michelleofzeresistance was right. It doesn't appear that the co-chair was even using female pronouns (fae/faer/faeselves). Plenty of men on twitter congratulating faer.

gardenbird48 · 28/12/2020 17:07

Someone has voiced concern that Kathryn’s proposals all seem to be advancing trans issues, not women’s issues.

Who saw that coming??

I wonder if there are any women’s issues that Kathryn has an interest in advancing?

It is an interesting issue - how do the male-bodied transgender people aspiring to political positions of influence in restricted women’s roles convince women that they will help advance issues concerning women when they get voted in? Do people just hear inclusive feminism and think it must be a good thing?? Do they get guilted for their c** privilege? Are only women allowed to vote for women’s officer roles?

testing987654321 · 28/12/2020 17:15

There's only one or two dissenting voices on GPW Facebook and they are getting complaints of "why isn't transphobia being deleted".

I still can't believe all the fawning women. What do they think Bristow is going to do for women?

FreshFreesias · 28/12/2020 18:36

Why would any serious environmentalist/animal rights campaigner/green thinking person even be in the ‘Green’ Party?

Stick with Friends of the Earth/PETA/HS2 protest group etc, etc, will do far more good.
I say that as the one-time Green Party animal rights spokesperson.

I’m now busy protecting hedgehogs - an endangered species.

Why aren’t the Green Party agitating about this?

Please could any green-minded, hedgehog supporting people on Twitter follow @hedgehogcabin and check out her website (google Hedgehog Cabin) which gives great info about feeding tips (only cat/dog food, no mealworms etc).
Even during hibernation hedgehogs wake up for a little sustenance so please provide food and water and make sure they have access into your garden by creating a hedgehog pathway.

OhHolyJesus · 28/12/2020 18:42

If anyone is interested and willing to sign a joint resignation letter please DM me. I will be doing this with a friend and the more the merrier.

I have already cancelled my DD with the bank.

testing987654321 · 28/12/2020 19:05

Interesting to see the response given to co-chair Emma Bateman, apparently she's a thick transphobe for thinking sex based rights exist.

I can only assume from some of the responses that some GP members are very confused about the protected characteristic sex in the Equality Act.

ArabellaScott · 28/12/2020 19:24

I do what I can for the hedgehogs, Fresh. Smile

I left the Green party many years ago, but it is sad to see it become such a party of ridicule.

Manderleyagain · 28/12/2020 20:45

So there are 2 chairs of the women's group. One is a trans activist who is tweeting that we should abandon sex as a concept, the other is a gender critical feminist? Well it might wake a few people up. How does this compare to how it was before?

Were there any other positions being elected? How did they go?

WeAreGerbil · 28/12/2020 20:51

It was mainly (solely?) GC women before. It's now a mix, with possibly slightly fewer GC women than non-GC. It's not going to be pleasant.

testing987654321 · 28/12/2020 20:52

Here's the full list.

mobile.twitter.com/GreenPartyWomen/status/1343620840865345536

This was the list of TWAW candidates. I haven't cross-checked it yet to see how many won.

@OhHolyJesus

If anyone is interested and willing to sign a joint resignation letter please DM me. I will be doing this with a friend and the more the merrier.

I have already cancelled my DD with the bank.

I'm not leaving yet though I probably will not renew in mid 2021. Looks like a hard time ahead for Emma Bateman.
FestiveGreenery · 28/12/2020 21:04

Secretary, Treasurer and 2 of the 3 non-portfolio went TWAW. Oh and how could I forget KB the intersectional feminist.

Membership sec, Claudine Letsae and Julia Lagoutte as non- portfolio were re-elected. Not sure if they are GC or neutral but I'm glad they're in again or it would be very very lonely for Emma.

That's on a tiny turnout and even with Young Greens who were encouraged to join being totally TWAW. I'm staying and once local party meetings restart I am going to attend and put the feelers out to women who are active locally. Building for the next GPW election.

DieHardIsAXmasMovie · 28/12/2020 22:04

I don't want to be pessimistic, but why bother?

The Green Party is full of misogynists and cowards, from what I can see.

When was the last time they did something productive to help the environment (which is meant to be their sole issue)? All I ever hear from them is the trans issue.

We can do better.

We shouldn't be working hard for them to want us; they should be working hard to win us back.
