Green Party Women has been doing a grand job championing women in the party, knowing that #sexmatters and providing great resources to support and encourage women to participate in politics.

Today the current committee is up for election and under threat of a take-over by a group that's single concern appears to be self-ID for transwomen - although trans folks have their own voice within the party in LGBTIQA+ Greens. They want the women's group too!

PLEASE REGISTER TO VOTE BY 13.30 TODAY. You need to be:

Sian Berry's been retweeting the "new, diverse" slate all over Twitter so it's obvious where her priorities lie.

Sian Berry swiftly deleted all her tweets praising or boosting Aimee Challenor as the scandal broke in 2018. There is a Twitter account @londondeletes which collects all the deleted tweets of the 2016 London Mayoral candidates and so this was obvious.

WeAreGerbil · 06/10/2020 13:02

I left after 30 years of membership, but joined again to be able to vote in elections and conference motions. Feel it's worth being in at the moment to support the women (and men) who are standing up against all this.

RuffleCrow · 06/10/2020 13:29

I also left due to this issue.

Trouble is a lot of older people who are generally naturally GC are really only in the party for Green issues. Not sure how many of them are really aware of the issue. And many of the younger ones have a troubling disregard for safeguarding and women's issues - as long as they can appear woke by referencing socialism, 'trans rights' or POC every 5 minutes. After one conference i had a conversation with a thirty something GP member who wasn't sure whether or not he'd raped a 16 year old in a broom cupboard whilst drunk. He was very relieved to get a text from her confirming it was consensual. ShockAngry

This is the reality of the culture we're up against. Sorry.

GreenieFingers · 06/10/2020 23:08

We need more, not fewer if possible please.

Part of the problem is that most GPEW members can't be bothered to join the conference and vote, while complaining bitterly about the trans politics which are choking the lifeblood of the party.

Who cares about the planet burning or species extinction, when you can obsess about gender identities and tell women at (actual) conferences that they have to share toilets with any man who wants to access them, whether they appreciate those men in the single-sex facilities or not!

GreenieFingers · 06/10/2020 23:11

Ruffle - I am horrified at that. There is a crazy policy on age limits in the Young Greens section too that's disturbingly high.

UPDATE ON GREEN PARTY CONFERENCE

At last night's workshops where motions to change party policy to back gender self-ID and various other things were discussed the straw poll of about 100 people attending was about 60-40 in favour of self-ID. This is good news!

Given how long the TRAs have been working on this project (compared to women's groups) and given the huge hold they now have over key blocks of votes in the party via Young Greens LGB Greens and endorsement by the leadership, the fact that 40% said No is amazing.

Plus - this workshop coincided with others on much more 'Green' issues such as climate change and HS2 - so only the real identity politics keenies were present. Lots of mainstream Greens weren't.

The actual vote on the policy takes place this weekend. If you are a Green Party member you can still register by 10pm tonight to attend and cast your votes on Sat and Sun. You can pay as little as £10 to attend conference if money is tight: members.greenparty.org.uk/node/166

If you do this, please message me to stay in touch about timings of key votes etc.

From experience that sounds like a healthy split. Hopefully the vote will be even better. I remember a GP conference where a transgendered person started heckling from the back - actually threatening someone on stage. This was before i had any understanding of the issue or why they were angry. Very unnerving though. Might have been Andy Healey on stage, or someone connected to him. Any 'civil rights' movement that tries to win the argument through threats and manipulation is so clearly false.

@NeurotrashWarrior

What's going on here? An email today:
it sounds like what's going on is that they know about the thread on here and that the vote isnt going the way they want so they're going to restart the process

I mean Id like to think its because they realise they're getting things wrong on this but i doubt it....

NeurotrashWarrior · 13/10/2020 18:08

There's not that many women here!

ArabellaScott · 13/10/2020 18:51

That's right, Neuro, just the six of us.

boatyardblues · 13/10/2020 20:47

@ArabellaScott

That's right, Neuro, just the six of us.
And yer socks! Biscuit Don’t forget the socks.
boatyardblues · 13/10/2020 20:48

Oh no, that was meant to be a wink, not a biscuit.

ArabellaScott · 13/10/2020 20:49

Someone put a biscuit in my sock and it's not even Xmas!

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 13/10/2020 21:01

It’s not just you six! I voted thanks to this thread and would have had no idea bout the vote otherwise as I am terrible at keeping on top of personal email and the deadline was RIDICULOUSLY short! Thank you for the image with the pictures of our candidates. That’s what I voted. I also sent GPW a snotty email back in the summer about the lack of transparency (and fact that I work for a high profile up and coming greentech company ...and had nearly left due to the Challoner scandal and lack of support for ACTUAL women) and got a surprisingly positive email back. We do what we can do. I am sure the tide will turn.

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 13/10/2020 21:02

PS sorry not to say before. I lost my password in THAT incident and have Lurked since. But read these threads daily.

GreenChris · 18/10/2020 12:19

Latest news is that Green Party Women committee election will be re-run and over at LGBTIQA+ Greens they have emailed everyone suggesting they register as members GPW in order to have a vote and 'shape the future of another liberation group'.

The daft rules brought in some years ago mean that anyone who identifies as 'gender variant' can do this. So it seems GPW membership may be enlarged by a new intake of bearded gender-variants.

Please can I urge any Green Party members here to register with GPW: women.greenparty.org.uk/ so you will be able to take part in the forthcoming re-run of the election.

Democracy in action. Not. :(

PumpkinSpiceWoman · 20/10/2020 20:02

Remind me again why the existing committee screwed up the election so badly that it has had to be re-run?

ArcheryAnnie · 21/10/2020 00:06

That's amazing that it's had to be rerun. I hope all women in the party do what they can to uphold the right of women to organise separately.

GreenGretel · 02/11/2020 15:32

My understanding is that the main problem was a technical one to do with Green Party data management; the email system for sending out the ballots wasn't properly linking to an up-to-date list of GPW members - so people who had joined GPW didn't receive the ballot email.

Apparently this problem has affected other committees in the party too - but only women are getting a torrent of hate due to the current conflict over women's rights to self-organise.

GreenGretel · 06/12/2020 10:21

The saga of the election of the next committee of Green Party Women continues.

If you are a member of Green Party Women, to vote in the re-run of the election of its next committee, you must validate you are eligible to vote by 23.59 on Monday 7th December. You can do this here: actionnetwork.org/forms/validation-of-gpw-voting-eligibility

This is required because the current constitution of GPW is open to women and to people who identify as gender variant. We know this means women as a sex currently don't have a voice within the party, but we are doing our best to ensure that, working within the current rules, women have a mandate to speak on the issues that particularly affect us.

You will only be sent a vote if you complete the question here actionnetwork.org/forms/validation-of-gpw-voting-eligibility by 23:59 on 7th December.

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 18/12/2020 10:09

Bump! Don’t forget to vote by 23rd!!!

Good luck in reclaiming the party. Hope you can emulate the SNPs success at reclaiming the NEC.
