Green Party Women need your help TODAY

Green Party Women has been doing a grand job championing women in the party, knowing that #sexmatters and providing great resources to support and encourage women to participate in politics.

Today the current committee is up for election and under threat of a take-over by a group that's single concern appears to be self-ID for transwomen - although trans folks have their own voice within the party in LGBTIQA+ Greens. They want the women's group too!

Done. Thanks and goos luck @GreenChris

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 04/10/2020 00:25

Done. Good luck, sisters.

Socrates11 · 04/10/2020 01:22

Seen people supporting other candidates calling for a new direction for Green Party Women. Want to comment that the new direction poster is full of white people and a non woman. That doesn't seem like a new direction to me, more of the same old, same old.

Anyhow, all the best to the OPs group

RonWeasleysWilly · 04/10/2020 11:14

Thanks for alerting us - signed up and now voted. I've been wavering for a couple of years on whether to stay a member; was involved with my local party but have taken a step back. To my shame, I have not felt confident to voice my views/concerns. (Another local member/councillor has been very vocal on their dislike of JKR on the local party group chat and nobody has challenged him.)

I'm left feeling disallousioned and that no party is for me. Sorry for the waffle - realise these are the thoughts many of us are having. Feel pessimistic about how these vote will go, but you never know?!

redsplodge · 04/10/2020 11:47

Thanks GreenChris, have now voted.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 04/10/2020 11:57

I've voted. Hope it makes a difference. If one party can start to make progress on this it may empower others. We need a green party that considers the needs of women in its climate policies!

DanaBarrett · 04/10/2020 13:34

I’ve voted, fingers crossed. If the ‘new direction’ win I doubt there’s much hope.

Catmaiden · 04/10/2020 13:47

Thanks @GreenChris, I voted last night.

GreenieFingers · 04/10/2020 18:25

I've voted too.

I have no idea why the Leadership and so many of those in positions of power and influence are so determined to push on with the utter lunacy of trans-identity politics, when the grassroots membership are telling them that they are not interested, do not want this and would actually like to get on with the job of saving the planet.

As far as I understand, there is still time to join the Green Party and gain voting / proxy rights at conference although the cut-off to apply to vote for the committee for Green Party Women has passed. I believe the deadline for joining the GPEW is 8th Oct but by then of course, much of the conference will be over.

KihoBebiluPute · 04/10/2020 18:30

When will the results be known?

craftykamo · 05/10/2020 03:07

Sian Berry's been retweeting the "new, diverse" slate all over Twitter so it's obvious where her priorities lie. I don't think they realise the optics of what they're about to do: kick out a diverse group of women and replace them with a bunch of white women, most of which appear to be under 35.

I had given Green Party membership a go because I thought they were moving away from this nonsense but if this election goes the way I suspect it might, then it's not the party for me and l'll be ending my membership.

The deadline for voting has been extended to later in the week because so many didn't receive the voting email so I don't think we'll know the result until Friday.

WeAreGerbil · 05/10/2020 08:56

It does call into question Sian Berry's "leadership" when she's promoting one group over another. Surely part of the leader's role is to encourage harmony in the party rather than stoking division.

I wonder if GP think that by going full on down this route, the will attract even more of the youth and perhaps pick up dissatisfied LP members. I don't know of any time politically when that strategy has actually worked.

The GP I think was one of those rare things, a new political party that had the potential to strengthen and influence over the long term and not a 'one off' like UKIP. The SD had to merge with the Liberals to survive.

The thread by which the GP hangs is Caroline Lucas and she has become more hardline. Parties who don't understand the centre ground of politics, don't understand politics, they are just factions (which frighteningly is what the LP might become if it doesn't get it's act together).

Exactly this. And from the reading I've done around the issue, the diverse group are the ones that have reinvigorated the actual women's group. Really hope OP's group can hang onto their hard work and not get pushed out...awaiting the result with interest....

Socrates11 · 05/10/2020 09:39

My highlighting game is not on point lol

ArabellaScott · 05/10/2020 09:53

Yep.

ArabellaScott · 05/10/2020 09:54

Because the younger more middle class white lot must know better than their elders and less educated ones, don't they?

CopsCantCatchCriminals · 05/10/2020 10:12

.. It doesn’t stand for envy...

😂

GreenChris · 05/10/2020 11:17

Deadline for voting has been extended to Thursday evening - due to technical problems. If you are a Green Party member, registered with Green Party Women and you haven't yet received a ballot email, please check your inbox today as there is an email from 'Green Party Women' explaining what to do.

I've just seen this - I'm not a GP member so can't take part, but am cheering you on. How is it looking?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/10/2020 10:36

Will women leave en masse if the vote is for 'diversity'?

ArcheryAnnie · 06/10/2020 10:58

A lot of women have already left, in despair - the GC slate is their only hope of hanging onto a lot of the ones that remain, I think.
