Apparently they will be discussing the GRA not changes.

I want to make a very mean comment about a certain person crying - as it’s the womanly thing to do- but I won’t.

Kit19 · 28/09/2020 13:16

do we know who they've got on to discuss it yet?

Destinysdaughter · 28/09/2020 13:24

Finally!

BabyItsAWildWorld · 28/09/2020 14:00

Yeah great...but where were you women's hour when grassroots women's organisations were trying to challenge the changes??

Barely covered then.

happydappy2 · 28/09/2020 14:16

Hmmm, perhaps they'll have a trans woman on, a Mother of a trans girl and a perhaps a male in support of changes.....so no counter argument from someone who will speak up FOR WOMEN.

StandUpStraight · 28/09/2020 14:33

Meh, Women’s Hour. They have a lot of work to do to convince me that they are in any way relevant to actual women, after their total failure to apply any journalistic integrity in their discussion of trans “rights”. I’ll tune in again when they stop letting the trans guests have their own private interview away from those scary women guests who want to debate the issues.

I agree - I felt very let down by WH then. They silenced Jenni Murray and then Jane Garvey had that interview with that idiot who wouldn't be in the same room as someone who disagreed with them, and apart from that they've said nothing as far as I'm aware.
JoodyBlue · 28/09/2020 15:01

Totally agree about Woman's Hour - meh!

FUTeams · 28/09/2020 16:46

Doesn't Jenni Murray finish this week? I wonder if she'll be presenting. I'll try not to get my hopes up.

JellyFishSquish · 28/09/2020 17:02

WH's silence over the consultation period really pissed me off

It's Women's Hour fer cryin out loud!!

crumpet · 28/09/2020 17:07

It was so good to see Jenni Murray come out in support of the JKR letter

Manderleyagain · 28/09/2020 18:07

I thought their series on the issue was pretty good once they actually did it - I know it was annoying that some guests only did it if they could be recorded separately because they felt unsafe (!) but JG's interviewing was fair I felt. The main problem was waiting until the last day of the consultation to even mention it.

TheBitterBoy · 28/09/2020 20:26

Fairplay for Women have just tweeted they are appearing, which is good.

McDuffy · 28/09/2020 20:54

Ooh interesting! Hope it's Dr Nic! She's ace.

PigeonToe · 28/09/2020 21:03

From Twitter, it looks like Shon Faye was asked to go on too and, er, politely declined. Wonder who else they'll have got to argue the other side...

AbsintheFriends · 28/09/2020 21:04

I'm sure WH's official fingers-in-ears position on this issue must be a major factor in both Jenni Murray and Jane Garvey deciding to leave. There MUST have been heated discussion behind the scenes, surely?

Here's hoping that, with the tide on the turn, they finally find their fucking backbone. I want to say 'better late than never' but actually, I'm not sure if that applies here. They have let women down.

PigeonToe · 28/09/2020 21:13

It's painfully obvious that the WH team spend at least three days wringing their hands before making any decision every time anything to do with gender identity is in the news. Any time that any other women's issue hits the headlines, Woman's Hour responds to it right away, but this issue is apparently impossible for them. I can only conclude that the office must be full of wide-eyed young people who think everyone should just be nice. Where are all the battle-hardened old feminist radio producers when you need them?!

ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 28/09/2020 21:18

Didn’t Sarah Sands say a lot of the staff are woke? She was on Today, but presumably it’s similar on WH.

PigeonToe · 28/09/2020 21:25

I'm glad that Emma Barnett will be taking over. I don't think she'll have much patience for wokery. And a new presenter could give the opportunity for a fresh start to their coverage of this entire thing... I mean, if there isn't a fresh start, the programme is all but doomed, isn't it.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 28/09/2020 23:28

I hope they have James Morton on with Nic.

AvocadoBathroom · 29/09/2020 00:33

Jenni Murray needs her own show.

Apparently Shon Faye refused to appear on the grounds that a) FPFW was transphobic and b) they'd been persistently misgendered. Seems reasonable. Can't imagine there's any other reason why Shon won'y debate...

wellbehavedwomen · 29/09/2020 00:52

Emma Barnett's been doing Late Night Woman's Hour for a while. But Jane Garvey's doing tomorrow, no?

FindTheTruth · 29/09/2020 08:23

Jane Garvey hears from two of the women who’ve been campaigning on this issue, Dr Heather Peto who is Co-Chair of Labour’s LGBT+ group and Dr Nicola Williams from the group Fair Play for Women.
