Now in Salt Lake City, Utah.

twitter.com/christophelston/status/1309685206283030528?s=21

‘ Salt Lake City loves JK Rowling! ❤️

Thank you to our new friend who has decided to take a stand for JK, for women and children, and for the State of Utah.

Sir, you are the best. Those 15 boards throughout the State have never looked so good!’ 26/9/20

Apparently the San Francisco billboard is was up today and seen by 1/2 million drivers.

And they are going up in about more 40 locations in the USA according to Chris.

Thank you Chris and the donors. I think there is a bit of crowd funding happening too.

There’s something bothering me too but I can’t put my finger on it. Who is this guy? The first I heard of him was when the billboard was put up in Vancouver and now he is all over this. Something’s not quite right.

His Twitter profile says:
Father of two girls and I (Redheart) JK Rowling for standing up for their rights.

I think being dad to two girls could motivate a man enough to get active and, well, do something.

NecessaryScene1 · 01/10/2020 20:04

I think being dad to two girls could motivate a man enough to get active and, well, do something.

Particularly in Canada. His other bugbear appears to be the SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) curriculum in Canada, which I understand makes some of the things we've from outfits like No Outsiders seen look quite tame, and is being very centrally pushed.

For his next campaign, he's threatening to post some of its contents up on billboards....

If I'm recalling correctly from an interview (that I can't find) the personal background is that he's a friend of Amy Hamm - he was particularly radicalised by her run-in with Yaniv (when he accused her of voyeurism or something in a courtroom toilet).

Malahaha · 01/10/2020 20:30

Oh, that should be interesting! It seems that he really is one to watch.

Winesalot · 01/10/2020 21:51

There is one now in LA and one in Portland.

Yippee

It is a problematic statistic that is ‘weaponised’ as they say. I am glad you are ok at the moment. Long may it continue.

Deliriumoftheendless · 02/10/2020 06:52

Yippee Thank you for your comments re Bipolar there are many lifelong MH issues that have links to suicide and suicide attempts which i would say needs compassion, understanding and support.

Yet too many who throw unreliable suicide stats around in defence of the removal of women’s current rights treat MH issues as a stigma, use MH slurs and are quite happy to see MH issues as something shameful.

Funny how “be kind” stops applying there, isn’t it?

It’s disgusting.

FairfaxAikman · 02/10/2020 14:36

Well he's posted saying he's not being a feminist ally, he's "doing his own thing". If that's the case why not come up with his own campaign rather than hijacking the Standing For Women one.

He blocked me when I called him out on that.

Winesalot · 03/10/2020 10:14

Apparently there was a I ❤️ J K Rowling billboard live for a few hours yesterday in Times Square. It only had a short time slot booked but it seemed no one forced it to be taken off while it lived.

I believe that Standing for Women have given their support. I am not sure why him being or not being a feminist ally matters. Why does it?

By the way, he is also actively working to bring awareness to educational capture in Canada. Similar to many women here in the UK and on this board. Again, does it matter what he defines himself as if he has the approval of Standing for Women for using the same sign.

Even Posie Parker (aka Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull the founder of Standing for Women) does not call herself a feminist,
Winesalot · 03/10/2020 10:53

I don’t feel that I qualify as a feminist either.

He's coming across a bit MRA saviour complex at the moment on twitter. Blocking people I respect left right and centre and using anti-women tropes as the reason, e.g. calling it gossiping when people are discussing the campaign. Pretty disappointed to tell the truth

CopsCantCatchCriminals · 03/10/2020 12:55

Do we know how he's paying for these billboards? It can't be cheap.

Winesalot · 03/10/2020 12:57

Crowdfunded and via some individual donation.

OP posts:
CopsCantCatchCriminals · 03/10/2020 12:59

Ah! Thank you wines, I thought maybe he was rich.

Winesalot · 03/10/2020 13:04

No not rich. He was stressed that the crowdfunder would not reach target and he’d be left with the debt.

He's being very male saviour, that's the issue.

Someone who objects to being called a feminist ally because it hurts his man feelings isn’t meant for leadership in a movement that centres women.

Winesalot · 03/10/2020 13:37

FairfaxAikman

It is a fair point but I don’t know that he is aiming to lead anything.

OP posts:
Jux · 03/10/2020 13:55

Right now does it matter? I'm more interested in the issue being made more and more public. It was pretty clear years ago that to make any headway at all with the general public that men were going to have to start talking about it.

(The same goes for NR dads who won't pay towards their kids. DH understands that those sort of guys should be shunned, not congratulated by their mates for getting one over on 'her'. He occasionally expresses his disgust with men who don't pay for their kids in public, but luckily most of our friends aren't like that, so he doesn't get the opportunity that often.)

Winesalot · 03/10/2020 14:03

I tend to think people do what they feel they can. He has taken the initiative to put up signs and to get his daughters lessons reviewed. I am not sure he has aspirations beyond that.

OP posts:
Winesalot · 03/10/2020 18:05

Although I have just caught up and sadly he has indeed crossed a line in his comments.

OP posts:
rogdmum · 04/10/2020 12:33

He seems to be losing the plot, accusing anyone who disagrees with him or questions him a TRA infiltrator. I think he needs to take a big step back away from this for a little while.

Text: “Beware of all the accounts with a 🟥. (Red square in case it doesn’t show up when I post)

Some are legit, but most are trans activists in disguise.

The 🟥 is their sign.”

Followed by a long list of followers with red squares in their profile.

PearPickingPorky · 04/10/2020 12:58

I unfollowed and muted him a few days ago. I've entirely lost interest in anything he has to say.

Men, eh.
