This is a harrowing read.
I feel immensely sorry for the child that was. However I feel more frightened for the women and children G might be incarcerated with.

Runnersos, yes, need to build a list of women's organisations to write to too. NWCI is probably a lost cause but I'll email anyway. RCC should take a stand on this too.

bigbirdSept · 30/09/2020 19:20

Great thread.

Will get to emails this weekend.

One of my main points will be the use of gender instead of sex. Even the COVID-19 app shows stats by gender. How is that accurate if we know covid disproportionately affects males? Surely it's in trans peoples best interests to record both biological sex (that can't be changed) AND the gender they identify with and live as, day to day.

Who is RCC?

Rape Crisis Centre. Noeline Blackwell is the ceo. She used to be the ceo of the free legal aid centres. She has no excuse not to understand women being vulnerable. I wrote to her (well, the generic email addresses I found on the website) and Orla O'Connor are NWCI earlier.

Was speaking to a friend of mine whos a former Garda, I had no idea that the capacity of Limerick prison was so small. At full capacity it only holds 28 women www.irishprisons.ie/prison/limerick-prison/

So if its currently at full capacity (unlikely due to covid) that would mean that 7% of "female" inmates are transwomen.

Will this prisoner be kept away from the rest of the prisoners - for their protection? The other transwomen is accompanied by 2 officers at all times while in the common areas. www.lawsociety.ie/gazette/top-stories/male-bodied-transgender-inmate-housed-with-women-prisoners/

From what we know of Barbie Kardashian, I feel so sorry for the female officers that will have to participate in this farce and I hope their union stands up for them

Limerick leader has written an article with statements from RadCailini and that Barbie is a biological male. They’re getting some flack for it from some eejits. If you’re on twitter can you show them some support?

Thanks. Yes, you would imagine they would be appalled by this.

That tweet isn't showing. I am not on twitter
Were they being accused of tranzphobiz?

SunsetBeetch · 01/10/2020 07:31

The Countess Didn't Fight For This, a new account on twitter (thread, I've just copied the first tweet)

"Ireland is supposed to be a shining beacon of progress these days...

but in fact, we have sleepwalked into a nightmare.

As we send out our first tweet to the world, our thoughts go to the female inmates of Limerick Prison.

If no one else will speak for them, we will."

Oh did they delete the tweet? Pity.

Runnersos · 01/10/2020 07:39

This doesn't reflect well on prison management.

Limerick Leaders tweet and article is gone.

I strongly suspect the jigsaw identification of the person concerned is the legal issue here even more than journalists fearing to report on self ID problems.

Boards.ie also banned discussion of "a case currently before the courts" and deleted previous posts about it.

I think you might be right there. I wonder is that why I didn't get a response from any TD. Even though I only mentioned that Barbie was in a woman's prison.
SecondRow · 01/10/2020 09:23

No I think the TDs still owe you a response there Runners. The pertinent info that it is a male person now being accommodated in a women's prison is available from the "mainstream" reporting.

Obviously the extra background info makes it worse but the question for TDs is if the GRA received proper scrutiny in 2015 and whether self-ID "for all purposes" was intended to cover violent criminals.

Thanks Second Row. That is what I would have thought. As for owing me a response I won't be holding my breath.
SecondRow · 01/10/2020 09:59

@XXSex That's good. No surprise if it was twitter made them take it down. Will be interesting to see what feedback they get from Limerick locals.

There is a bill, currently before Seanad Éireann, the 3rd stage, to allow 16 year olds to self ID and to "ensure consideration of the status of non-binary persons in Irish law"

Katherine Zappone. who was involved in the 2017 review, is unlikely to vote against it.

miri1985 · 01/10/2020 10:59

Zappone isn't a TD anymore, she lost her seat and has moved back to the US

viques · 01/10/2020 11:02

@jaimebravo

This is absolutely ridiculous, Barbie is being held in Limerick women's prison. What can go wrongConfused. Barbie has form for attacking a Social Worker. I hope the Prison officers have good support.

www.womenarehuman.com/transgender-teen-charged-with-making-death-threats-against-two-individuals/

Horrendous report.

In a car, being driven by a female care worker. without provocation he lunged forward , pulled clumps of hair from the woman's scalp, bit her and dug his nails into her eyes.. The care worker was hospitalised with injuries that included torn eyelids.

Now in a prison with vunerable women. 18 years old, a man not a child, with a man's strength.

Runnersos · 01/10/2020 11:23

Well I received areply from Joan Collins TD, which was so appalling that I am completely shocked that any public representative would send out to a member of the public.
Basically she called me mean spirited, base, an oppressor,, and that I was using slurs and insinuations. She also said I used many characterisations of trans people as sex offenders, which I didn't. Finally she accused me of being homophobic.
Truly, truly appalling.
I get the feeling she thinks I am a TERFBiscuit

frogswimming · 01/10/2020 11:29

Could someone send me a copy of the email they sent their TD?

SecondRow · 01/10/2020 11:33

OMG Runners! That is shocking! You must be incandescent.
