I think I'll be buying a t-shirt come payday.

And thanks for the Kate Millett links. I'll also admit that I didn't recognise the name.

growinggreyer · 23/09/2020 10:02

When you contrast this police action with the way they allow huge and potentially violent football crowds to swarm through towns and cities every week pre-covid. It does show up that men can do whatever they want. As a child I asked my Mum why football wasn't just banned if it caused such fighting and trouble. She just shrugged.

Thanks, Butterer.

I suppose it's also useful to look at recent protests that have been allowed to go ahead without any interruption. Quite large ones, I think.

Thanks so much @Fishdoggy for a first hand account. WYP have been bloody appalling.

TheQuietWoman · 23/09/2020 17:24

That Kenyon Officer sounds chilling.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 23/09/2020 17:35

Butterer that Leeds live link is good evidence for Posie.

I was there too on Sunday and witnessed the shit show by WYP. Outrageous.

SunsetBeetch · 23/09/2020 20:33

@TheQuietWoman

That Kenyon Officer sounds chilling.
I wonder why he was so angry
Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 23/09/2020 22:06

Thank you Fishdoggy

My powers of observation are so finely tuned that I had no idea that there were two different locations 🤦🏻‍♀️ I thought the videos showed concurrent events at opposite ends of the square!

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 23/09/2020 22:08

SunsetBeetch “Difficult” women? Grin

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 23/09/2020 23:46

How come this random bunch of Covid deniers were allowed to "set-up camp" and hold their protest, without any masks or social distancing?

On what grounds did West Yorkshire police stand by and observe, allowing their protest to run it's course without interference? In what ways did this group differ from the well behaved women (who had done a risk assessment and arrived equipped with masks, hand gel, floor chalk and track and trace recording lists)? Why were West Yorkshire Police so dead set on preventing women from speaking in about their legal rights in public?

I really hope the women challenging their unfair fines and illegal arrests will be saving the evidence of the glaringly different way these two groups were treated.

Socrates11 · 24/09/2020 10:52

Yes, why indeed. This question deserves an honest detailed answer from the coppers. Which will never happen as they are so arrogant & dismissive. Policing in UK is mostly pretty shit but WYP are head & shoulders up along with the MET for abusive practices and corruption. No accountability to the people they are supposed to protect and serve is dangerous.

Leeds authorities have previous form on preventing women from meeting about their rights. WPUK were banned from council meeting rooms in 2018. Meeting number 16 in the link list

Well, huge solidarity with Leeds Resisters and Leeds women. May your push back go from strength to strength, as we can see there is too much to lose in the city that would prefer its women silent & compliant regardless of the harm being done to them.

What has Julie Bindel got against Posie, does anyone know ? I was surprised to see her call P “not a feminist “ on twitter this morning, mentioning this event.

TinselAngel · 24/09/2020 12:17

I think it's that Posie gets shit done and doesn't just wait endlessly for the Labour Party to come around.

Stripesgalore · 24/09/2020 12:23

Posie isn’t a feminist.

They are both very strong characters with quite different perspectives.

Julie Bindel isn’t particularly a fan on mums tbh, which isn’t to say she hasn’t done amazing work.

OldCrony · 24/09/2020 12:27

Posie says she is. At least I think I've heard her describe herself as feminist.

Who gets to decide who is and who isn't a feminist?

Julie Bindel? West Yorkshire Police?

(Asking for a friend who needs an application form. Sarcasm smiley.)

JamieLeeCurtains · 24/09/2020 12:27

They're chalk and cheese. But they're both organic.

Oh Goddess save us from a fricking purity spiral.

Julie really should know better.

I’m probably not a feminist by Julie’s standards either - being a SAHM . Sorry, not sorry.

But somehow I still manage to be a GC activist who gets shit done. Do I have to hand my badge in now?

TirisfalPumpkin · 24/09/2020 12:40

Julie Bindel has done incredible work for women over the years and she deserves respect for it. Certainly don't want to knock her impressive legacy. Dismayed by her more recent behaviour.

Posie doesn't call herself a feminist (at least not that I've heard). She usually goes by 'women's rights campaigner' or activist.

If the 'women's rights activist' is hosting events where women can talk about their rights and the subjects that matter to them, getting arrested in the process - and a 'feminist' is sending her nasty tweets and telling off grass-roots local orgs for making their own choices who to associate with - I think my sympathies are with the wra.
