Neville Southall, celebrity transgender supporter, disses JKR

Neville Southgate is a former famous footballer who has just published a sort of memoir/ manifesto. (No, I'm not a soccer fan and I wasn't aware of him) Neville believes in souls and secret inner selves. He doesn't seem to have much of a clue about biology, but that doesn't stop him telling women that they're wrong.

It comes from this in the Guardian today:

www.theguardian.com/football/2020/sep/15/neville-southall-everton-keeper-boris-johnson-jk-rowling-loose-cannons

*Southall veers away from football stories to his enduring concern for people in the transgender community. “Lots of people think it’s a sin to be trans,” he says. “I looked at JK Rowling’s reaction to transgender women. She above everybody knows what fantasy is. So she must be able to imagine that some people are born in the wrong bodies. We never question a child that is born as a cojoined twin. But we question that somebody can be born in the wrong body. That happens because we can’t see in somebody’s brain, or soul, to understand how they feel.

“I don’t know everything there is to know about trans people, which is why I am always trying to learn more. But I know people should be allowed to live the lives they want within reason. If you’re born into a male body but you feel so strongly that you’re a female, why should I stop you? Your body is just a shell. You have a right to discover your real self.

If somebody wants to do the whole transition it’s a big operation. Mentally it takes incredible courage. So what JK Rowling said doesn’t help. She’s sold loads of books and she’s obviously got talent but maybe she’s of an age where she doesn’t have knowledge about trans issues and maybe she’s scared of it. If you don’t understand something and you start talking out loud against it that’s dangerous.”*

The most dangerous thing, Mr Southgate, is idiots like you talking misogynist rubbish about things you confess to knowing nothing about.

PS I've previewed and tried to embolden or italicise the speech a dozen times and it just won't work for me.

I bet Nev knows exactly what a woman is when he fancies a fuck!

Sorry to be crude but I’ve had it up to here today with this shit!!

Kantastic · 15/09/2020 11:33

She above everybody knows what fantasy is. So she must be able to imagine that some people are born in the wrong bodies. We never question a child that is born as a cojoined twin. But we question that somebody can be born in the wrong body.

I'm not really a football fan. Um, do goalkeepers head the ball a lot?

I keep reading this section and over and I want to say something in response but 🤯

Sexnotgender · 15/09/2020 11:33

Was it him that let an adult baby take over his twitter for a night?

Kit19 · 15/09/2020 11:35

Indeed it was Sexnotgender

RuffleCrow · 15/09/2020 11:35

Two short planks.

Imnobody4 · 15/09/2020 11:36

We never question a child that is born as a cojoined twin What???.

Your body is just a shell. It's a bit more than that.

littlbrowndog · 15/09/2020 11:40

What’s conjoined twins got to do with JKR

Is that her fault now 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

IaltagDhubh · 15/09/2020 11:41

“I don’t know everything there is to know about trans people, ... If you don’t understand something and you start talking out loud against it that’s dangerous.”

Maybe he should take his own advice here.

AnyOldPrion · 15/09/2020 11:42

We don’t question conjoined twins because, like DSDs, this is a well-defined, obviously physical medical condition.

Really it’s hard not to conclude some people are so ignorant and stupid that it really would be better if they stopped saying anything.

Kantastic · 15/09/2020 11:42

maybe she’s of an age where she doesn’t have knowledge about trans issues and maybe she’s scared of it.

also what the actual fucking fuck, on top of having said the stupidest set of sentences I have EVER read (probably not literally but I can't remember anything worse on account of my brain having exploded when I got to the conjoined twin bit) what fucking age does that condescending wanker think he is?

I'll tell you what age he is, he's six years older than Rowling. And really not in a position to condescend to her. Shut the fuck up, Neville. Go host an adult baby party, if you must generate crap in public at least you can get it out the right end.

endofthelinefinally · 15/09/2020 11:44

What a load of absolute incoherent rubbish.

AlbusSirius · 15/09/2020 11:47

Oh well, that'll really change my mind. He's such a great supporter of women that he must, surely, have our best interests at heart.

On the other hand, is this really him? Doesn't he have a history of allowing rather questionable groups to use his twitter account?

Not that I'm doubting his ability to write, obviously, I'm sure he's extremely intelligent and very well educated Grin

Kantastic · 15/09/2020 11:50

What with that remark about Rowling, I'm guessing he's insecure about his age and he thinks the adult babies and the trans nonsense make him hip and down with the kids.

"Your body is just a shell" is a very "oops I'm in my sixties and aging fast, better go into denial about the realities of being an embodied human being" thing to say. He's a bit late for a midlife crisis but maybe he's a late developer.

DialSquare · 15/09/2020 11:53

If my body was just a shell, I'd be a hermit crab looking to downsize.

zanahoria · 15/09/2020 11:59

I have no idea what being born in the wrong body even means but if someone wants to express themselves in that matter then good luck to them. If they choose to go round telling vulnerable kids they have been born in the wrong body then that is different matter.

OvaHere · 15/09/2020 12:00

Has nobody told him it's gatekeeping to insist that only people who have operations are trans? You're behind the times Nev.

Btw OP to make bold or italic work you have to add the * or the ^ at the end of each paragraph (no line breaks).

JK knows about fantasy but she knows it is different to reality

Nev thinks one person's fantasy can be turned into an ideology and taught to children.

Cailleach1 · 15/09/2020 12:11

she’s obviously got talent but maybe she’s of an age where she doesn’t have knowledge about trans issues

So they have to brainwash the young, impressionable and credulous. Who aren't long enough in the tooth to know when it looks like and duck and quacks like a duck it is probably not a horse.

doublehalo · 15/09/2020 12:18

Is he saying being trans is a birth defect?

We never question a child that is born as a cojoined twin

So much wrong here. Will all images and statues of humans with only one head be banned? Should I now refer to myself as one headed? monocraniumed?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 15/09/2020 12:18

She above everybody knows what fantasy is. So she must be able to imagine that some people are born in the wrong bodies
I’m not sure this comes across in quite the way he intended tbh.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 15/09/2020 12:19

Um, do goalkeepers head the ball a lot?
Possibly. David Icke was a goalkeeper. Just sayin.

JellySlice · 15/09/2020 12:22

But I know people should be allowed to live the lives they want within reason.

Quite. And I doubt anyone on FWR would disagree on that point.

But what is ' within reason'? How far does ' within reason' go?

Listen, man, MY CONSENT IS NOT YOURS TO GRANT.
