Neville Southall, celebrity transgender supporter, disses JKR

Neville Southgate is a former famous footballer who has just published a sort of memoir/ manifesto. (No, I'm not a soccer fan and I wasn't aware of him) Neville believes in souls and secret inner selves. He doesn't seem to have much of a clue about biology, but that doesn't stop him telling women that they're wrong.

It comes from this in the Guardian today:

www.theguardian.com/football/2020/sep/15/neville-southall-everton-keeper-boris-johnson-jk-rowling-loose-cannons

*Southall veers away from football stories to his enduring concern for people in the transgender community. “Lots of people think it’s a sin to be trans,” he says. “I looked at JK Rowling’s reaction to transgender women. She above everybody knows what fantasy is. So she must be able to imagine that some people are born in the wrong bodies. We never question a child that is born as a cojoined twin. But we question that somebody can be born in the wrong body. That happens because we can’t see in somebody’s brain, or soul, to understand how they feel.

“I don’t know everything there is to know about trans people, which is why I am always trying to learn more. But I know people should be allowed to live the lives they want within reason. If you’re born into a male body but you feel so strongly that you’re a female, why should I stop you? Your body is just a shell. You have a right to discover your real self.

If somebody wants to do the whole transition it’s a big operation. Mentally it takes incredible courage. So what JK Rowling said doesn’t help. She’s sold loads of books and she’s obviously got talent but maybe she’s of an age where she doesn’t have knowledge about trans issues and maybe she’s scared of it. If you don’t understand something and you start talking out loud against it that’s dangerous.”*

The most dangerous thing, Mr Southgate, is idiots like you talking misogynist rubbish about things you confess to knowing nothing about.

PS I've previewed and tried to embolden or italicise the speech a dozen times and it just won't work for me.

@MyfanwyMontez

Firstly he wasn’t telling women that they are wrong. He was telling a woman that she was wrong. Is it misogynistic to tell a woman she is wrong? Can women never be wrong? Also, he didn’t claim to know nothing about the subject just that he didn’t know it all and was trying to learn more. Plus his name is Southall not Southgate. So when criticising someone it may just be a good idea to get yer facts right.
It's your not yer.

I'll listen to a footballer on equality when he's proven he's done his bit to make football a safe place for men to be black and gay, which it still isn't. And that's before even touching on women's football.

This, a hundred times over. There are currently no out gay top flight male footballers. None, nada, zilch, niente. That's how gay friendly men's professional football is. Maybe Nev could put a bit of effort into that instead of woke-scolding a successful woman.

(The women's game is a lot more accepting of lesbians, but even so, when I played - on a majority gay team - my team-mates regularly used to get homophobic abuse when the ref was out of earshot.)

MyfanwyMontez · 15/09/2020 18:20

@SoManyActivities
But he was talking about men transitioning into women and women transitioning into men. Surely whatever your sex, gender or other, you can defend people’s right to be what they believe to themselves to be?

PurpleHoodie · 15/09/2020 18:27

A general note:

A man who makes girls, teenage girls and women uncomfortable to be around needs avoiding at all cost. Including their 21st century computer online spewings.

PurpleHoodie · 15/09/2020 18:40

My question is:

Is he aware of the %/per AND actual numbers of males who declare themselves women/female who decline/refuse "bottom surgery" (colloquial verbiage for amending their penises to mimic the vulvic area of females) in the UK, Ireland, Diaspora and worldwide?

Females who wish to expand into masculinity - and males who wish to expand into femininity; does he support their them to remain in their correct sex-segregated spaces without prejudice?

EG Ultra feminine men should feel - and be - safe in their male sex segregated areas.

SunsetBeetch · 15/09/2020 18:45

I'm half convinced that the most vociferous "TWAW" men feel very uncomfortable around their feminine brothers.

Winniefred · 15/09/2020 18:48

Oh that was the guy who gave his Twitter Thread over to a "TransBaby" and despite having to pull the thread due to the rather sickening Pedophillic Fetishism on display, still doubled down on "All Trans Identities are Valid" the problem with that, is there is some 'identities' that are clearly covered in the DSM -5 under Transvestic Disorders, some of traits being narcissistic identity and sexual Paraphillia.

Now, I don't think 6 weeks has passed since my 3rd & final warning by MNHQ about not being respectful towards the "Trans Umbrella" but I have spent my life working to safeguard children & young people and have come across my fair share of predatory males and their DSM-5 described Paraphillia .... MN should Not be silencing Mothers, Teachers, Social Workers and Psychologists who know way more about the men who engage in these Paraphillic practises and use cross dressing as Women & Kids to groom.

Neville is not the brightest of lights and is exactly the sort of man these Paraphillics manipulate. It's way past time that Old School Transexuals were given a platform to be open about just who is hiding within Stonewalls Trans Umbrella because every Transexual I have spoken to is fully aware of the reality of not gate keeping.

I now expect to be deleted for good by MN because I have zero respect for "Transgenderism" nor those who promote incest based queer theory.

"Jolly family man Neville Southall has successfully sued his daughter for £55,000 worth of trophies. Southall gave the memorabilia to her when she was 10, but now wants them back. "I'm devastated," his daughter Sam said. "I idolised my dad. I don't know how I'll pay the costs [which amount to £5,000].""

This was a very incoherent article but I took away from it that the two types of women that this bloke had any time for were 'sex workers' and trans women.
He view of women is profoundly male centered.

LockdownLump · 15/09/2020 19:09

Typical narcissistic TRA. Nothing more, nothing less.

SoManyActivities · 15/09/2020 19:16

Surely whatever your sex, gender or other, you can defend people’s right to be what they believe to themselves to be?

No one can have a right to actually BE what they themselves believe themselves to be. You can respect their right to believe what they want to, but that doesn't make them actually what they want to be. There is a huge difference.

JKR, as do I, believes in the right of trans people to express themselves as they wish. So if a man wants to express himself according to stereotypes normally associated with women, then he should absolutely be able to do that.

If he wants to believe himself that that makes him a woman, the he should be able to do that.

What that person absolutely does not have the right to do, is expect everyone else to believe that that makes him a woman, and have the laws changed accordingly.

Reddog1 · 15/09/2020 19:23

Aren’t goalkeepers supposed to be the clever, logical ones who oversee/control the game from the back?

Seriously - what nonsense this is. Unintelligent.

Beetlewing · 15/09/2020 19:48

Thick as mince. I don't know why he's held up as an authority on anything

His view of women is profoundly AGP pornified sex addict ....

Hahaha, you don't know many footballers, so you?

Goal keepers usually become goalkeepers for one of the following reasons:

  • They're tall
  • They're rubbish at football
  • They're unpopular, and can only get a game by going in goal.

Very few GKs become managers, even fewer are successful. The only example I can think of is Dino Zoff.
You don't see many GKs becoming pundits either.

FloralBunting · 15/09/2020 21:23

I think the quality of Neville Southall's contributions to life were summed up the first time he was in a kickabout and the other blokes said
"Er, what about Nev?"
"He can go in goal"

💩

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/09/2020 21:52

Oh yes, I'd forgotten for that. And didn't he leave his partner for someone else in a really shitty way too?

ThousandsAreSailing · 15/09/2020 22:02

Neville is residing in a much larger body these days.

ArabellaScott · 15/09/2020 22:11

Shells, eh?

Does anyone want to see snails mating? It really is fascinating.*

*if not really relevant.

Horizons83 · 15/09/2020 23:07

RIght that’s it. I’ve just risen above the parapet on Facebook. Someone posted the Neville Southall story on our town Facebook page calling him a hero and I could not shut up any longer.

I left a calm and polite comment that JKR was arguing against self-ID and why this wasn’t a good idea, pointing them towards Karen White.

It’s not much but it’s a start. And now I wait for my shunning.

Well done. And thank you. It's horrific that it takes courage in 2020 to stand for women, but the reality is that it does.
CandyLeBonBon · 15/09/2020 23:51

Fucking hell. I've read it all now. What a tosser. Sorry I don't have anything more eloquent but I'm so tired of this shit.

Horizons83 · 16/09/2020 00:08

I had a reply back:

‘I’ve googled Karen and your name came up.’

No response to my point though. Interesting that.

And if it’s made one more person look deeper into what JKR has said, or allowed one woman in my town to realise she’s not alone, it’s worth it.

Grin

In my case as a kid, it was a combination of all 3.
